A novel anti-islanding method for the distributed power generation system (DPGS) is proposed in this paper. Three different islanding scenarios are explored and presented based on the analysis of real and reactive power mismatch. It is shown via investigation that islanding voltage is a function of real power alone, where its frequency is a function of both real and reactive power. Following this analysis, a robust anti-islanding algorithm is developed. The proposed algorithm continuously perturbs ($\pm$5%) the reactive power supplied by the DPGS while simultaneously monitoring the utility voltage and frequency. In the event of islanding, a measurable frequency deviation takes place, upon which the real power of the DPGS is further reduced to 80%. A drop in voltage positively confirms islanding and the DPGS is then safely disconnected. This method of control is shown to be robust: it is able to detect islanding under resonant loads and is also fast acting (operable in one cycle). Possible islanding conditions are simulated and verified through analysis. Experimental results on a 0.5kW fuel cell system connected to a utility grid are discussed.
In resource-constrained, low-cost, radio-frequency identification (RFID) sensor-based mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), ensuring security without performance degradation is a major challenge. This paper introduces a novel combination of steps in lightweight protocol integration to provide a secure network for RFID sensor-based MANETs using error-correcting codes (ECCs). The proposed scheme chooses a quasi-cyclic ECC. Key pairs are generated using the ECC for establishing a secure message communication. Probability analysis shows that code-based identification; key generation; and authentication and trust management schemes protect the network from Sybil, eclipse, and de-synchronization attacks. A lightweight model for the proposed sequence of steps is designed and analyzed using an Alloy analyzer. Results show that selection processes with ten nodes and five subgroup controllers identify attacks in only a few milliseconds. Margrave policy analysis shows that there is no conflict among the roles of network members.

Delta parallel robots are now widely used for high-speed applications. However, typical Delta robots, such as ABB Flexpicker suffer from rotating axis with passive prismatic joint subjected to critical speed and so requiring careful maintenance. In this paper, a novel 4-DOF high-speed parallel robot with four legs is presented, which consists of three legs with 90 degree arrangement for translational motions and one remaining leg with rack & pinion gears for rotational motion. The inverse kinematics, velocity, acceleration, statics, and inverse dynamics have been analyzed. From the workspace analysis and inverse dynamics simulation for 0.43 sec cycle time, the 4-axis parallel robot prototype with 12kg payload has been designed. In the future research, computed torque control methods will be developed for the prototype.
In connection with the monitoring of the insulation degradation of large power apparatus in order to predict their expected service failures, a statistical treatment, such as phase resolved partial discharge analysis (PRPDA), has been established for the on-line monitoring system during the past decades. However, this method has shown some inconveniences to identify the nature of the PD source in power apparatus. In this regard, a novel approach based on the chaotic analysis (CAPD) is proposed describing the fundamental ideas, outcomes and different viewpoints from the conventional PRPDA. As a model for the possible defects causing sudden failures in service, three types of specimen are prepared. And partial discharge signals, originated from those samples, are measured and analyzed by means of CAPD. Throughout this work, it seems that the correlation between the consecutive PD pulses, depending on the nature of PD, could be clarified by CAPD. Thereffre, it could be considered that the nature of PD source can be identified more distinctively when the CAPD is combined with PRPDA.

A novel finite element mesh regeneration method is presented for 3D shape optimization of electromagnetic devices. The method has its theoretical basis in the structural deformation of an elastic body. When the shape of the electromagnetic devices changes during the optimization process, a proper 3D finite element mesh can be easily obtained using the method from the initial mesh. For real engineering problems, the method guarantees a smooth shape with proper mesh quality, and maintains the same mesh topology as the initial mesh. Application of the optimum design of an electromagnetic shielding plate shows the effectiveness of the presented method.

This paper presents a new approach to HVDC system control for damping subsynchronous oscillation (SSO) involving HVDC converters and turbine generator shaft systems. This requires a novel eigenvalue analysis (NEA) program, derivation of HVDC system modeling considering steady-state conditions and dynamic conditions in the combined AC/DC system, and an appropriate control scheme. The method suggested makes possible the design of a subsynchronous oscillation damping controller (SODC) to provide positive damping torque for the range of torsional modes in combined AC/DC systems. There are three steps involved in the design of a SODC; first the worst torsional mode is determined using the NEA program, next the SODC parameters are designed for the range of that torsional mode, and then finally an off-line simultaneous time domain program such as PSCAD/EMTDC is used to verify the parameters of the SODC. The suggested SODC design method is applied to two AC/DC systems, and its practicality is verified using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation program.
This article describes a 2-in-1 methodology utilizing simulation optimization technique and Data Envelopment Analysis in measuring an accurate efficiency score. Given the high level of stochastic data in real environment, a novel methodology known as Data Collection Budget Allocation-Data Envelopment Analysis (DCBA-DEA) is developed. An example of the method application is shown in banking institutions. In addition to the novel approach presented, this article provides a new insight to the application domain of efficiency measurement as well as the way one conducts efficiency study.
In this paper, a novel algorithm of underground cable fault location based on the analysis of distributed parameter circuit is proposed. The proposed method makes voltage and current equations about core and sheath, and then establishes a function of the fault distance according to the analysis of fault conditions. Finally gets the solution of this function through Newton-Raphson iteration method. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm has been verified by Matlab program, and the cable parameters such as impedance and admittance are from EMTP simulation.
A fungal strain was isolated from a soil sample collected in Korea and designated as YW23-8. Based on a sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the isolate was assigned to the genus Sarcopodium. Moreover, a phylogenetic analysis based on the concatenated nucleotide sequences of the ITS regions and the large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal RNA (LSU) gene showed that the strain YW23-8 occupies a distinct phylogenetic position within Sarcopodium. The isolate had significant differences from its closest neighbors, S. circinosetiferum, S. circinatum, S. macalpinei, and S. vanillae. Morphological features such as different conidial structures, the absence of septation in conidia, and the presence of milky white watery droplets along with the results of the phylogenetic analysis clearly distinguish YW23-8 from the closest Sarcopodium species. We therefore conclude that strain YW23-8 represents a novel species of the genus Sarcopodium for which we propose the name Sarcopodium terrigenum.
In this paper, buckling analysis of hybrid functionally graded plates using a novel four variable refined plate theory is presented. In this theory the distribution of transverse shear deformation is parabolic across the thickness of the plate by satisfying the surface conditions. Therefore, it is unnecessary to use a shear correction factor. The variations of properties of the plate through the thickness are according to a symmetric sigmoid law (symmetric S-FGM). The principle virtual works is used herein to extract equilibrium equations. The analytical solution is determined using the Navier method for a simply supported rectangular plate subjected to axial forces. The precision of this theory is verified by comparing it with the various solutions available in the literature.
