  • Nonlinear dynamic equation of a 4-axis rigid rotor supported by two an-isotropic magnetic bearings is derived via Hamilton's principle. It is transformed to a state-space form for the standard Η$_{\infty}$ control problem. we present a robust Η$_{\infty}$ control design methods of continuous and discrete LMI-based approaches and improve performance using loopshaping.

  • Optimal neuro-control algorithm is extended to the control of a multi-degree-of-freedom structure. An active mass driver(AMD) system on the top roof is used as an exciter. The control signals are made by a multi-layer perceptron(MLP) which is trained by minimizing a sub-optimal performance index. The performance index is a function of both the output responses and the control signals. Structure having nonlinear hysteretic behavior is also trained and controlled by using proposed control algorithm. In training neuro-controller, emulator neural network is not used. Instead, sensitivity-test data are used. Therefore, only one neural network is used for the control system. Both the time delay effect and the dynamics of hydraulic actuator are included in the simulation. Example shows that optimal neuro-control algorithm can be applicable to the multi-degree of freedom structures.

  • This paper presents a self.levelling system for a mass, which undergoes a severe acceleration, with integrated displacement feedback control. After a general description of such a system, theoretical analysis is investigated to design an active control device. The self-levelling system can be used to reduce the "quasi-static" deflection while isolating the "dynamic" vibration. A computer simulation model of 45 kg with two air spring mounts is considered to predict the performance of the control system. Important control parameters were acquired to meet the requirement of the system. The results showed the controller can reduce the displacement of the mass to the level of about 1/5 after control. Thus the self-levelling system can be applied usefully to reduce the displacement of a mass which experiences a high g dynamics.

  • This paper deals with a hybrid position/force control of a robot which is moving on the constrained object with constant force. The proposed controller is composed of a position and force controller. The position controller has a nonlinear compensator which is based on the dynamic robot model and the force controller is attached by feedforward element. A direct drive robot with hard nonlinearity which is controlled by the proposed algorithm has moved on the constrained object with a high stiffness and low stiffness. The results show that the proposed controller has more vibration suppression effects which is occurred to the constrained object with a high stiffness, than a existing feedback controller, and accurate force control can be obtained by comparatively a small feedback gain.

  • In order to trace a target in deep sky, a feed cabin 20 tons in weight used for a large radio telescope is drawn with six cables. To realize a smooth tracing all the time, optimal distribution of the cable tensions is explored. A set of cable-clog systems is utilized to control the wind-induced vibration of the cable-cabin structure. This is an attempt to apply the passive structural control strategy in the area of radio astronomy. Simulations of wind-induced vibration of the structure in both time and frequency domains offer a valuable reference for construction of the next generation large radio telescope.

  • Present paper deals with the large amplitude flexural vibration of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) plates. Distribution of CNTs as reinforcements may be uniform or functionally graded (FG). The equivalent material properties of the composite media are obtained according to a refined rule of mixtures which contains efficiency parameters. To account for the large deformations, von $K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ type of geometrical nonlinearity is included into the formulation. The matrix representation of the governing equations is obtained according to the Ritz method where the basic shape functions are written in terms of the Chebyshev polynomials. Time dependency of the problem is eliminated by means of the Galerkin method and the resulting nonlinear eigenvalue problem is solved employing a direct displacement control approach. Results are obtained for completely clamped and completely simply supported plates. Results are first validated for the especial cases of FG-CNTRC and cross-ply laminated plates. Afterwards, parametric studies are given for FG-CNTRC plates with different boundary conditions. It is shown that, nonlinear frequencies are highly dependent to the volume fraction and dispersion profiles of CNTs. Furthermore, mode redistribution is observed in both simply supported and clamped FG-CNTRC plates.

  • In the biological immunity, the immune system of organisms regulates the antibody and T-cells to protect the attack from the foreign materials which are virus, germ cell, and other antigens, and supports their stable state. It has similar characteristics that has the adaptation and robustness to overcome disturbances and to control the plant of engineering application. In this paper, we build a model of the T-cell regulated immune response mechanism. We have also designed an immune response controller(IRC) focusing on the T-cell regulated immune response of the biological immune system that include both a help part to control the response and a suppress part to adjust system stabilization effect. We show some computer simulation to control the vibration of building structure system with strong wind forces excitation also demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed controller for applying a practical system even with existing nonlinear terms.

  • A combined computational fluid dynamics(CFD)-Kirchhoff method is presented for predicting high-speed impulsive noise generated by a hovering blade. Two types of Kirchhoff integral formula are used; one for the classical linear Kirchhoff formulation and the other for the nonlinear Kirchhoff formulation. An Euler finite difference solver is solved first to obtain the flow field close to the blade, and then this flow field is used as an input to a Kirchhoff formulation to predict the acoustic far-field. These formulas are used at Mach numbers of 0.90 and 0.95 to investigate the effectiveness of the linear and nonlinear Kirchhoff formulas for delocalized flow. During these calculiations, the retarded time equation is also carefully examined, in particular, for the cases of the control surface located outside of the sonic cylinder, where multiple roots are obtained. Predicted results of acoustic far-field pressure with the linear Kirchhoff formulation agree well with experimental data when the control surface is at the certain location(R=1.46), but the correlation is getting worse before or after this specific location of the control surface due to the delocalized nonlinear aerodynamic flow field. Calculations based on the nonlinear Kirchhoff equation using a linear sonic cylinder as a control surface show a reasonable agreement with experimental data in negative amplitudes for both tip Mach numbers of 0.90 and 0.95, except some computational integration problems over a shock. This concliudes that a nonlinear formulation is necessary if the control surface is close to the blade and the flow is delocalized.

  • This paper concerns a SCARA robot with the flexible forearm linked to the rigid upper arm. The equations of motion are derived by the Lagrangian mechanics. For controller design, the perturbation approach is taken to separate the original equations of motion into linear equations describing small perturbed motions and nonlinear equations describing purely rigid motion of the robot. To effect the desired payload motion, open loop control inputs are determined based on the inverse dynamics of the latter. In order to reduce the positional error during maneuver, an active vibration suppression is done. To this end, a feedback control is designed for robustness against disturbance on the basis of the linear equations and the LQR theory modified to have a prescribed degree of stability. The proposed control scheme shows satisfactory performances in experiments as well as in numerical simulations.

  • This paper presents a framework of nonlinear dynamic analysis of a low-speed moving maglev (magnetically levitated) vehicle subjected to cross winds and controlled using a clipped-LQR actuator with time delay compensation. A four degrees-of-freedom (4-DOFs) maglev-vehicle equipped with an onboard PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller traveling over guideway girders was developed to regulate the electric current and control voltage. With this maglev-vehicle/guideway model, dynamic interaction analysis of a low-speed maglev vehicle with guideway girders was conducted using an iterative approach. Considering the time-delay issue of unsynchronized tuning forces in control process, a clipped-LQR actuator with time-delay compensation is developed to improve control effectiveness of lateral vibration of the running maglev vehicle in cross winds. Numerical simulations demonstrate that although the lateral response of the maglev vehicle moving in cross winds would be amplified significantly, the present clipped-LQR controller exhibits its control performance in suppressing the lateral vibration of the vehicle.
