A new adaptive controller which combines a model reference adaptive controller (MRAC) and a fuzzy controller is developed for unstable nonlinear time-invariant systems. The fuzzy controller is used to analyze and to compensate the nonlinear time-invariant characteristics of the plant. The MRAC is applied to control the linear time-invariant subsystem of the unknown plant, where the nonlinear time-invariant plant is supposed to comprise a nonlinear time-invariant subsystem and a linear time-invariant subsystem. The stability analysis for the overall system is discussed in view of global asymptotic stability. In conclusion. the unknown nonlinear time-invariant plant can be controlled by the new adaptive control theory such that the output error of the given plant converges to zero asymptotically.
A neural model predictive control strategy combining a neural network for plant identification and a nonlinear programming algorithm for solving nonlinear control problems is proposed. A constrained nonlinear optimization approach using successive quadratic programming cooperates with neural identification network is used to generate the optimum control law for the complicate continuous/batch chemical reactor systems that have inherent nonlinear dynamics. Based on our approach, we developed a neural model predictive controller(NMPC) which shows excellent performances on nonlinear, model-plant mismatch cases of chemical reactor systems.
This paper is dealing with a design of linear controller so that the plant output is regulated to follow a reference model output when the plant equation is described by a class of nonlinear time-varying control systems.
A new Riemannian geometric model for the controlled plant is proposed by imbedding the control vector space in the state space, so as to reduce the dimension of the model. This geometric model is derived by replacing the orthogonal straight coordinate axes on the state space of a linear system with the curvilinear coordinate axes. Therefore the integral manifold of the geometric model becomes homeomorphic to that of fictitious linear system. For the lower dimensional Riemannian geometric model, a nonlinear optimal regulator with a quadratic form performance index which contains the Riemannian metric tensor is designed. Since the integral manifold of the nonlinear regulator is determined to be homeomorphic to that of the linear regulator, it is expected that the basic properties of the linear regulator such as feedback structure, stability and robustness are to be reflected in those of the nonlinear regulator. To apply the above regulator theory to a real nonlinear plant, it is discussed how to distort the curvilinear coordinate axes on which a nonlinear plant behaves as a linear system. Consequently, a partial differential equation with respect to the homeomorphism is derived. Finally, the computational algorithm for the nonlinear optimal regulator is discussed and a numerical example is shown.
A water wall system is one of the most important components of a boiler in a thermal power plant, and it is a nonlinear Multi-Input and Multi-Output (MIMO) system, with 6 inputs and 3 outputs. Three models are developed and comp for the controller design, including a linear model, a multilayer feed-forward neural network (MFNN) model and an Echo State Network (ESN) model. First, the linear model is developed by linearizing a given nonlinear model and is analyzed as a function of the operating point. Second, the MFNN and the ESN are developed by using training data from the nonlinear model. The three models are validated using Matlab with nonlinear input-output data that was not used during training.

Structures of domestic nuclear power plants are designed to perform elastic behavior against beyond design earthquakes, but studies on the nonlinear behavior of structures have been insufficient since the beyond design earthquake. Accordingly, it is judged that it will be necessary to develop an evaluation method that considers the nonlinear behavioral characteristics to check the safety margin for a standard nuclear power plant structure. It is confirmed that the restoring force characteristics for each member level can be identified through the calculation formula, and the lateral stiffness for each story can also be easily calculated by JEAC 4601. In addition, as a result of applying the evaluation method of JEAC 4601 as a nonlinear restoring force model of the nuclear power plant, a certain degree of safety margin can be identified.
This paper describes the improvement of thermal power plant turbine control system by analyzing nonlinear characteristics. The turbine control depends on the frequency variation and boiler condition. The nonlinearity of turbine control is the result of governor/valve properties, steam condition and boiler thermal unbalance. Nonlinear analysis is divided into two; main steam valve position - turbine output anal governor response. Of course, every analysis must be done on considering plant operating condition. In this paper, after analyzing turbine control nonlinearity by numerical method and actual results, the sensitive operating load which corresponds to frequency is proposed, on guarranteed boiler stability. This idea is implemented at Pyung Tack thermal power plant, and the practical results are showed.
A well-defined relative degree, which is one of the basic assumptions in adaptive control or nonlinear synthesis problems, is addressed. It is shown that this is essentially a necessary condition for asymptotic tracking in discrete-time nonlinear systems. To show this, tracking problems are defined, and a local linear input-output behavior of a discrete-time system is introduced in relation to a well-defined relative degree. It is then shown that if a plant is invertible and accessible from the origin and a compensator solves the local asymptotic tracking problem, then the plant necessarily has a well-defined relative degree at the origin.

This paper deals with an indirect pole placement adaptive controller design problem for discrete-time plants with arbitrary zeros in the presence of unmodeled dynamics and/or disturbances. The plant and controller parameters are estimated by separate estimators. The nonlinear feedback is introduced so that the estimated plant has as high degree of controllability as possible. The nonlinear feedback will be used in a finite time, after which the control algorithm becomes a standard pole placement one.
A nonlinear tracking control technique developed for the control of nonlinear systems has been applied to the autopilot design of missile system. The difficulties in the application of inversion based control methods such as input-output feedback linearization and sliding mode control due to nonminimum phase characteristics are discussed. To avoid the stability problem associated with unstable zero dynamics, the input-output feedback linearization is applied with output-redefinition method to normal acceleration control. The output-redefinition method gives an indirect way to apply the nonlinear controls to nonminimum phase plants by redefining the plant output such that the tracking control of the modified output ensures the asymptotic tracking of the original output. The numerical simulation shows satisfactory results both for nominal and for slightly perturbed missile systems adopting the sliding mode control technique. However, the robustness problem in this method is briefly investigated and verified with the simulation.
