  • In this paper, we present the simulation results of multi-layer VCO(voltage controlled oscillator), which is composed of resonator, oscillator, and buffer circuit, using EM simulator and nonlinear RF circuit simulator. EM simulator is used for obtaining the EM(Electromagnetic) characteristics of conductor pattern as well as designing the multi-layer VCO. Obtained EM characteristics were used as real components in nonlinear RF circuit simulation. Finally the overall VCO was simulated by the nonlinear RF circuit simulator. The material for the circuit pattern was Ag and the dielectric was DuPont 951AT, which will be applied for LTCC process. The structure of multi-layer VCO is constructed with 4 conducting layer. Simulated results showed that the output level was about 4.5 [dBm], the phase noise was -104 [dBc/Hz] at 30 [kHz] offset frequency, the harmonics -8 dBc, and the control voltage sensitivity of 30 [MHz/V] with a DC current consumption of 9.5 [mA]. The size of VCO is $6{\times}9{\times}2$ mm(0.11[cc]).

  • The torsional vibration of the propulsion shafting system equipped with viscous damper is investigated. The equivalent system is modeled by a two mass softening system with Duffing's oscillator and the vibratory motion is described by non-linear differential equations of second order. The damper casing is fixed at the front-end of crankshaft and the damper's inertia ring floats in viscous silicon fluid inside of the camper casing. The excitation frenquency is proportional to the rotational speed of engine. The steady state response of the equivalent system is analyzed by the computer and for this analyzing, the harmonic balance method is adopted as a non-linear vibration analysis technique. Frequency response curves are obtained for 1st order resonance only. Jump phenomena are explained. The discriminant for the solutions of the steady state response is derived. Both theoretical and measured results of the propulsion shafting system are compared with and evaluated. As a result of comparisions with both data, it was confirmed that Duffing's oscillator can be used in the modeling of the propulsion shafting system attached with viscous damper with non-linear stiffness.

  • The phase locked oscillator having a low phase noise and high output in Ku-band was designed. To obtain the low phase noise and high output characteristics of oscillator, the nonlinear equivalent circuits of p-HEMT was analyzed by TOM method and we have decided the trade-off bias point between the low phase noise and the output power of oscillator. The designed phase locked oscillator with prescaler for stable operation, experiment results exhibits output power of 1003m with phase noise in the phase locked state of -824BC/HB at 10mz offset from 13.250Hz, and simulation result of 1003m output power in the phase noise -840Bc/Hz at 10KHz offset frequency respectively. a good agreement has been obtained between simulations and experiments results.

  • In this paper we have considered the vibration of parametrically excited oscillator with strong cubic positive nonlinearity of complex variable in nonlinear dynamic systems with forcing based on Mathieu-Duffing equation. A new analytical approach called homotopy perturbation has been utilized to obtain the analytical solution for the problem. Runge-Kutta's algorithm is also presented as our numerical solution. Some comparisons between the results obtained by the homotopy perturbation method and Runge-Kutta algorithm are shown to show the accuracy of the proposed method. In has been indicated that the homotopy perturbation shows an excellent approximations comparing the numerical one.

  • A chaotic oscillator with light controllability was designed. The proposed chaotic oscillator consists of a photo sensor, two phase clock driven MOS switches, nonlinear function blocks for chaotic signal generation. SPICE circuit analysis using a 0.35 um CMOS process parameters was performed for its chaotic dynamics. And we confirmed that chaotic behaviors of the circuit can be controlled according to light intensity. By SPICE simulation, chaotic dynamics by time waveforms, frequency analysis was analyzed. SPICE results showed that proposed circuit can make various light-controlled chaotic signals.

  • This paper presents some fundamental results on the dynamics of the periodic Karman wake behind a circular cylinder. The wake is treated like a dynamical system. External forcing is then introduced and its effect investigated. The main result obtained is the following. Perturbation of the wake, by controlled cylinder oscillations in the flow direction at a frequency equal to the Karman vortex shedding frequency, leads to instability of the Karman vortex structure. The resulting wake structure oscillates at half the original Karman vortex shedding frequency. For higher frequency excitation the primary pattern involves symmetry breaking of the initially shed symmetric vortex pairs. The Karman shedding phenomenon can be modeled by a nonlinear oscillator. The symmetrical flow perturbations resulting from the periodic cylinder excitation can also be similarly represented by a nonlinear oscillator. The oscillators represent two flow modes. By considering these two nonlinear oscillators, one having inline shedding symmetry and the other having the Karman wake spatio-temporal symmetry, the possible symmetries of subsequent flow perturbations resulting from the modal interaction are determined. A theoretical analysis based on symmetry (group) theory is presented. The analysis confirms the occurrence of a period-doubling instability, which is responsible for the frequency halving phenomenon observed in the experiments. Finally it is remarked that the present findings have important implications for vortex shedding control. Perturbations in the inflow direction introduce 'control' of the Karman wake by inducing a bifurcation which forces the transfer of energy to a lower frequency which is far from the original Karman frequency.

  • In this paper a nonlinear, bistable, single degree of freedom system is considered. It consists of a Duffing oscillator externally excited by a non-resonant, harmonic force. A customized perturbation scheme is proposed to achieve an approximate expression for periodic solutions. It is based on the evaluation of the quasi-steady (slow) solution, and then on a variable change followed by two perturbation steps which aim to capture the fast, decaying contribution of the response. The reconstructed solution, given by the sum of the slow and fast contributions, is in a good agreement with the one obtained by numerical integration.
