  • Nonlinear filters which are utilized rank-order information and temporal-order information, have many proposed, in order to restore nonstationary signals which are corrupted by additive noise. In this paper, we propose a data-dependent LWOS filter whose coefficients change based on local statistics. LWOS(Linear Combination of Weighted Order Statistics) filters[1]which also utilized two informations, and have properties of efficient impulsive and nonimpulsive noise attenuation and sufficiently details and edges preservation. DD-LWOS filters can remove non-impulsive oises while preserving signal details. DD-LWOS2 filter gets more better performance than DD-LWOS filter when input image corrupted by additive noise which includes Impulsive noise components.

  • Conventional SAW duplexer filters employ a 1/4 wavelength transmission line, which causes difficulty in fabrication of the strip line on the package. Its manufacturing process is also complicated, because it needs integrating process of the separate transmitting filter, receiving filter and isolation circuits. This paper concerns development of a new structure of the duplexer filter that has all the transmitting filter, the receiving filter and the isolation circuit as a one chip device. For composition of the duplexer, we design the component SAW ladder filters and the isolation network consisting of lumped inductor and capacitor elements. Performance of the whole duplexer is optimized by the nonlinear multivariable minimization of a proper target function, and the result is compared with that of commercial filters.

  • In this paper, an embedded Kalman filter for a time-delayed controller is designed on an FPGA to estimate accelerations of the robot arm. When the time-delayed controller is used as a controller, the inertia estimation along with accelerations is needed to form the control law. Although the time-delayed controller is known to be robust to cancel out uncertainties in the nonlinear systems, performances are very much dependent upon estimating the acceleration term ${\ddot{q}}(t-{\lambda})$ along with inertia estimation ${\hat{D}}(t-{\lambda})$. Estimating accelerations using the finite difference method is quite simple, but the accuracy of estimation is poor specially when the robot moves slowly. To estimate accelerations more accurately, various filters such as the least square fit filter and the Kalman filter are introduced and implemented on an FPGA chip. Experimental studies of following the desired trajectory are conducted to show the performance of the controller. Performances of different filters are investigated experimentally and compared.

  • This paper presents a method of designing hybrid analog/asymmetrical square-root (SR) FIR filters. In addition to the conventional frequency domain constraints, the proposed method considers time-domain constraints as well, including the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and the opening of the eye pattern at the receiver output. This paper also reviews a systematic way to find the discrete-time equivalence of analog parts in a band-limited digital communication system. Thus, a phase equalizer can be easily realized to compensate for the nonlinear phase responses of the analog components. With the hybrid analog/SR FIR filter co-design, examples show that using the proposed method can result in a more robust ISI performance in the presence of the receiver clock jitter.

  • Recently, various activ filters such as current type and voltage type have been proposed to suppress harmonics caused by nonlinear load due to the use of semiconductor switching devices. At the early stage, active filters are used only to suppress harmonics. However, it has been proposed that they offer more functions such as voltage regulations, improvements of power factor and 3 phase unbalance. This study presents a combined function of active filter and a UPSs with one power processing stage.

  • A large eddy simulation with explicit filters on unstructured mesh is presented. Two explicit filters are adopted for reducing the aliasing error of the nonlinear convective term and measuring the level of subgrid scale velocity fluctuation, respectively. The developed subgrid scale model is basically eddy viscosity model which depends on the explicitly filtered fields and needs no additional ad hoc wall treatment such as van Driest damping function. As a validation problem, the flows around a sphere at several Reynolds numbers, including laminar and turbulent regimes, are calculated and compared to experimental data and numerical results in the literature.

  • This paper presents the simulation of Au / $Ba_{x}$S $r_{1-x}$ Ti $O_3$(BSTO) / Magnesium oxide (MgO) multi-layered and electrically tunable band-pass filters (BPFs) by using high frequency structure simulator (HFSS). This model is a two-pole microstrip edge coupled filter. The filter was designed fur a center frequency about 5.8 GHz. The tunabillity of the filter is achieved using the nonlinear dc electric-field dependence on the relative dielectric constant of BSTO frroelectric thin film. This work seems very promising for future wireless communication systems....

  • This paper presents a novel filtering method for speed measurements to improve the low-speed performance of the direct-drive permanent magnet traction machines for elevators. Based on the theory of nonlinear tracking differentiator (NTD), this method, which can act as a high performance filter of a raw speed signal, obtains a more accurate speed feedback signal when applying a low-resolution encoder. In addition, it can relieve the interference caused by the position derivative for speed sampling. By analyzing the frequency response of the NTD, the influence of its parameters on the performance of the speed filtering is investigated. Compared with different types of low-pass filters, the proposed method shows a shorter time delay and a stronger ability in terms of noise suppression when the parameters are selected carefully. In addition, when using the measured speed signal through a nonlinear tracking differentiator as the feedback of the system, the motor runs more steadily at low speeds. As a result, the riding comfort of a direct-drive elevator can be improved. The feasibility of the proposed strategy was verified on an 11.7kW elevator traction machine using a commercial inverter.

  • Power quality is a critical issue in distribution systems, where a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is commonly used to mitigate the voltage disturbances for loads. This paper deals with a nonlinear control for the three-phase four-wire (3P-4W) DVR under a grid voltage unbalance and nonlinear loads in the distribution system, where a novel control scheme based on the feedback linearization technique is proposed. Through feedback linearization, a nonlinear model of a DVR with a PWM voltage-source inverter (VSI) and LC filters is linearized. Then, the controller design of the linearized model is performed by applying the linear control theory, where the load voltages are kept constant by controlling the d-q-0 axis components of the DVR output voltages. To keep the load voltage unchanged, an in-phase compensation strategy is employed, where the load voltages are recovered to be the same as the previous voltage without a change in the magnitude. With this strategy, the performance of the DVR becomes faster and more stable even under unbalanced source voltages and nonlinear loads. The validity of the proposed control strategy has been verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • Input filtering as a preprocessing method is so much crucial to get good performance in time series forecasting. There are a few preprocessing methods (i.e. ARMA outputs as time domain filters, and Fourier transform or wavelet transform as time-frequency domain filters) for handling time series. Specially, the time-frequency domain filters describe the fractal structure of financial markets better than the time domain filters due to theoretically additional frequency information. Therefore, we, first of all, try to describe and analyze specially some issues on the effectiveness of different filtering methods from viewpoint of the performance of a neural network based forecasting. And then we discuss about neural network model architecture issues, for example, what type of neural network learning architecture is selected for our time series forecasting, and what input size should be applied to a model. In this study an input selection problem is limited to a size selection of the lagged input variables. To solve this problem, we simulate on analyzing and comparing a few neural networks having different model architecture and also use an embedding dimension measure as chaotic time series analysis or nonlinear dynamic analysis to reduce the dimensionality (i.e. the size of time delayed input variables) of the models. Throughout our study, experiments for integration methods of joint time-frequency analysis and neural network techniques are applied to a case study of daily Korean won / U. S dollar exchange returns and finally we suggest an integration framework for future research from our experimental results.
