Nonlinear Product Codes and Their Low Complexity Iterative Decoding

  • This paper proposes encoding and decoding for nonlinear product codes and investigates the performance of nonlinear product codes. The proposed nonlinear product codes are constructed as N-dimensional product codes where the constituent codes are nonlinear binary codes derived from the linear codes over higher order alphabets, for example, Preparata or Kerdock codes. The performance and the complexity of the proposed construction are evaluated using the well-known nonlinear Nordstrom-Robinson code, which is presented in the generalized array code format with a low complexity trellis. The proposed construction shows the additional coding gain, reduced error floor, and lower implementation complexity. The (64, 24, 12) nonlinear binary product code has an effective gain of about 2.5 dB and 1 dB gain at a BER of $10^{-6}$ when compared to the (64, 15, 16) linear product code and the (64, 24, 10) linear product code, respectively. The (256, 64, 36) nonlinear binary product code composed of two Nordstrom-Robinson codes has an effective gain of about 0.7 dB at a BER of $10^{-5}$ when compared to the (256, 64, 25) linear product code composed of two (16, 8, 5) quasi-cyclic codes.

다중 코드 CDMA 시스템에서 PAPR저감 기법 (PAPR Reduction Method in Multi-Code CDMA System)

  • 본 논문에서는 Multi-code CDMA(code division multiple access) 시스템에서 발생하는 높은 PAPR(Peak to average power ratio)을 저감하고, 신호가 HPA에서 비선형 왜곡을 감소시키기 위한 방법으로, SLM(Selected Mapping) 및 PTS(Partial Transmit Sequence) 기법과 함께 전치왜곡 기법의 혼합 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법에서 SLM 및 PTS 방법을 위해 사용된 위상 회전 정보는 별도의 채널을 통해 전송되고, 이러한 위상 회전 정보의 채널 통과에 따른 에러율은 시스템의 성능에 큰 영향을 미친다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 위상 회전 정보의 에러율을 고려한 이론적인 BER 수식을 제시하며, 이는 시뮬레이션을 통해 나타난 시스템의 BER 성능과 거의 같게 나타난다. 결국 PTS 및 SLM 방법을 전치왜곡기와 병행한 제안된 혼합 기법은 신호의 PAPR을 줄이고, HPA의 비선형 특성을 보상함으로써 시스템의 BER 성능을 향상시킨다.

  • In this paper, the DS/CDMA PN code acquisition system with nonlinear transmitter power amplifier based on digital matched filter (DMF) which has the rapid acquisition time is presented and the performance is evaluated in terms of mean acquisition time, detection probability, and signal to interference under multiuser environment. The performance is presented with respect to the output backoff of the nonlinear amplifier and the correlation window.

Closed form interaction surfaces for nonlinear design codes of RC columns with MC 90

  • The closed form solution of the equilibrium equations in the ultimate design of reinforced concrete sections under biaxial bending is presented. The stresses in the materials are described by the Model Code 1990 equations. Computation of the integral equations is performed generally in terms of all variables. The deformed shape of the section in the ultimate conditions is defined by Heaviside functions. The procedure is convenient for the use of mathematical manipulation programs and the results are easily included into nonlinear analysis codes. The equations developed for rectangular sections can be applied for other sections, such as T, L, I for instance, by decomposition into rectangles. Numerical examples of the developed model for rectangular sections and composed sections are included.

  • 비선형 포물형 안정성 방정식(Nonlinear Parabolized Stability Equations, NPSE)은 보다 전체적인 천이 과정 연구에 효과적으로 사용될 수 있다. NPSE는 천이 과정에서 비선형 구간의 안정성을 직접 수치 모사(Direct Numerical Simulation, DNS)에 비해 적은 계산 비용을 사용하여 효율적으로 해석 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 일반 좌표계에서의 NPSE를 구성하고, 수치 계산을 위한 코드를 개발하였다. 코드의 검증을 위해 비압축성 및 압축성 평판 경계층에서의 벤치마크 문제들을 해석하였다. 본 연구의 NSPE 해석 기법이 비선형 안정성 연구에 효율적이고 효과적인 방법임을 확인하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 송신기의 전력효율을 고려하여 C급 전력증폭기를 사용함으로 인한 증폭기의 비선형성의 영향을 극복하기 위해 일정진폭 특성과 연속위상특성을 갖는 CE-CPSK 변조 직접 대역확산 송수신기를 제안하였다. 직접 대역확산 수신기의 초기동기 성능을 평균 동기 획득시간, 검출확률을 통해 기존의 BPSK 변조방법과 CE-CPSK변조방법에 대해 다중사용자환경하에서의 성능을 비교분석하였다. 비선형성을 지닌 채널 환경 하에서 제안한 CE-CPSK 변조방식이 기존의 BPSK 변조방식에 비해 부대엽 스펙트럼이 상당히 감소되는 것을 알 수 있었으며 코드 동기 획득 성능 또한 우수함을 알 수 있었다.

Evaluation of the seismic performance of special moment frames using incremental nonlinear dynamic analysis

  • In this paper, the incremental nonlinear dynamic analysis is used to evaluate the seismic performance of steel moment frame structures. To this purpose, three special moment frame structure with 5, 10 and 15 stories are designed according to the Iran's national building code for steel structures and the provisions for design of earthquake resistant buildings (2800 code). Incremental Nonlinear Analysis (IDA) is performed for 15 different ground motions, and responses of the structures are evaluated. For the immediate occupancy and the collapse prevention performance levels, the probability that seismic demand exceeds the seismic capacity of the structures is computed based on FEMA350. Also, fragility curves are plotted for three high-code damage levels using HASUS provisions. Based on the obtained results, it is evident that increase in the height of the frame structures reduces the reliability level. In addition, it is concluded that for the design earthquake the probability of exceeding average collapse prevention level is considerably larger than high and full collapse prevention levels.9.

Investigating the effect of bond slip on the seismic response of RC structures

  • It is reasonable to assume that reinforced concrete (RC) structures enter the nonlinear range of response during a severe ground motion. Numerical analysis to predict the behaviour therefore must allow for the presence of nonlinear deformations if an accurate estimate of seismic response is aimed. Among the factors contributing to inelastic deformations, the influence of the degradation of the bond slip phenomenon is important. Any rebar slip generates an additional rotation at the end regions of structural members which are not accounted for in a conventional analysis. Although these deformations could affect the seismic response of RC structures considerably, they are often neglected due to the unavailability of suitable models. In this paper, the seismic response of two types of RC structures, designed according to the Iranian concrete code (ABA) and the Iranian seismic code (2800), are evaluated using nonlinear dynamic and static analyses. The investigation is performed using nonlinear dynamic and static pushover analysis considering the deformations due to anchorage slip. The nonlinear analysis results confirm that bond slip significantly influences the seismic behavior of RC structure leading to an increase of lateral deformations by up to 30% depending on the height of building. The outcomes also identify important parameters affecting the extent of this influence.

  • In a remarkable paper 〔3〕, Hammons et al. showed that, when properly defined, the binary nonlinear Preparata code can be considered as the Gray map of a linear code eve. Z$_4$, the so-called Preparata code eve. Z$_4$. Recently, Yang and Helleseth 〔12〕 considered the generalized Hamming weights d$\_$r/(m) for Preparata codes of length 2$\^$m/ over Z$_4$ and exactly determined d$\_$r/, for r = 0.5,1.0,1.5,2,2.5 and 3.0. In particular, they completely determined d$\_$r/(m) for any r in the case of m $\leq$ 6. In this paper we show that the Preparata code of length 16 over Z$_4$ does not satisfy the chain condition.

Nonlinear seismic performance of code designed perforated steel plate shear walls

  • Nonlinear seismic performances of code designed Perforated Steel Plate Shear Walls (P-SPSW) were studied. Three multi-storey (4-, 8-, and 12-storey) P-SPSWs were designed according to Canadian seismic provisions and their performance was evaluated using time history analysis for ground motions compatible with Vancouver response spectrum. The selected code designed P-SPSWs exhibited excellent seismic performance with high ductility and strength. The current code equation was found to provide a good estimation of the shear strength of the perforated infill plate, especially when the infill plate is yielded. The applicability of the strip model, originally proposed for solid infill plate, was also evaluated for P-SPSW and two different strip models were studied. It was observed that the strip model with strip widths equal to center to center diagonal distance between each perforation line could reasonably predict the inelastic behavior of unstiffened P-SPSWs. The strip model slightly underestimated the initial stiffness; however, the ultimate strength was predicted well. Furthermore, applicability of simple shear-flexure beam model for determination of fundamental periods of P-SPSWs was studied.
