  • A large particle accelerator requires an ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) system of average pressure under $1{\times}10^{-7}$ Pa for mitigating the impact of beam scattering from the residual gas molecules. The surface inside the beam ducts should be controlled with an extremely low thermal outgassing rate under $1{\times}10^{-9}Pa{\cdot}m^3/(s{\cdot}m^2)$ for the sake of the insufficient pumping speed. To fulfil the requirements, the aluminum alloys were adopted as the materials of the beam ducts for large accelerator that thanks to the good features of higher thermal conductivity, non-radioactivity, non-magnetism, precise machining capability, et al. To put the aluminum into the large accelerator vacuum systems, several key technologies have been developed will be introduced. The concepts contain the precise computer numerical control (CNC) machining process for the large aluminum ducts and parts in pure alcohol and in an oil-free environment, surface cleaning with ozonized water, stringent welding process control manually or automatically to form a large sector of aluminum ducts, ex-situ baking process to reach UHV and sealed for transportation and installation, UHV pumping with the sputtering ion pumps and the non-evaporable getters (NEG), et al. The developed UHV technologies have been applied to the 3 GeV Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) and revealed good results as the expectation. The problems of leakage encountered during the assembling were most associated with the vacuum baking which result in the consequent trouble shootings and more times of baking. Then the installation of the well-sealed UHV systems is recommended.

  • Solar cells with CIGS absorber layers have proven their suitability for high efficiency and stable low cost solar cells. We prepared and characterized particle based CIGS thin film using a non-vacuum processing. CIGS powder were obtained at $240^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours from the reaction of $CuCl_2$, $InCl_3$, $GaCl_3$, Se powder in solvent. The nanoparticle precursors were mixed with binder material. The CIGS thin film deposited on a sodalime glass. The CIGS thin film were identified to have a typical chalcopyrite tetragonal structure by using UV/Visible-spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD), Auger Electron Spectroscopy(AES), Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM).

  • The diminishing of heat leak into cryogenic vessels can prolong the storage time of cryogenic liquid. With the storage of cryogenic liquid reducing, the heat leak decreases, while the actual storage time increases. Regarding to the theoretical analysis, the obtained results seems to be constructive for the cryogenic insulation system applications. This study presents a predictive assessment of heat leak occurring in non-vacuum tanks with a single layer of insulation. A Radial steady-state heat transfer, based on heat conduction equation, is taken into consideration. Graphical results show the thermal performance of the insulation used, they also allow us to choose the appropriate insulation thickness according to the shape and diameter of the storage tank.

  • Low salt-fermented product of alaska pollack roe were prepared tentatively and also discussed the retarding effect of fermentation period by vacuum. The results were as follows. The moisture content, pH and salinity decreased slightly, but the contents of VBN and total amino acids increased gradually during fermentation regardless of ripening types. pH and salinity showed little difference with ripening types, but moisture content was a little lower and the contents of VBN was some higher in non vacuum than those in vacuum, whereas total amino acid contents were greater in vacuum. In addition, total viable cell count were similar to trend of gentle decrement after increment to some degree but were higher in non vacuum than those in vacuum. Judging from the results of physicochemical analysis, it was showed that fermentation delayed in vacuum therefore it was considered that vacuum fermentation can be effective on shelf-life extension of jeot-gal.

  • Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) is an emerging technology enabling cost-effective and high-throughput nanofabrication. Recently, the major trends of NIL are high throughput and large area patterning. UV curable type NIL (UV NIL) can be performed at room temperature and low pressure. And one advantage of UV NIL is that it does not need vacuum, which greatly simplifies tool construction, so that vacuum oprated high-precision stages and a large vacuum chamber are no longer needed. However, one key issue in non-vacuum environment is air bubble formation problem. Namely, can the air bubbles be completely removed from the resist. In this paper, the air bubbles formation by the method of droplet application in UV NIL with non-vacuum environment are experimentally studied. The effects of the volume of droplet and the number of dispensing points on air bubble formation are investigated.

  • Recently, the new refrigerating system, using non - fluorinated hydrocarbon refrigerants has to be developed for the agricultural fields. One of that kinds of systems is the cooling system using the water vapor and vacuum, in which the water evaporate at the low temperature under vacuum and absorb the large amount of the latent heat. If vapor with large amount of latent heat is removed from the system, the system is cooled accordingly. The characteristics of cooling under the vacuum was observed and measured using experimental apparatus, which is consisted of vacuum chamber, the ejectors, the pumps and the measurement apparatus. As the results of experiments, we know that the evaporation in the vacuum occurs vigorously when the materials to be cooled has more amounts of heat before cooling, and by which effects the materials can be cooled. The cooling vacuum system is more efficient than other methods when the agricultural products is chilled or dried.

  • In this paper, a non-vacuum packaged single crystalline silicon MEMS gyroscope is designed, fabricated and tested. To reduce air damping of the gyroscope structure for non-vacuum packaging, air damping model is used and damping is minimized by analysis. The inner and outer spring length is optimized by ANSYS simulation for rigid body motion. The gyroscope is fabricated by SiOG(Silicon On Glass) process. The performance of the gyroscope is measured to evaluate the characteristic of the gyroscope. The sensitivity, non-linearity, noise density and the bias stability are measured to 9.7693 mV/deg/s, 04265 %, 2.3 mdeg/s/rtHz and 16.1014 deg/s, respectively.
