  • The R.C Building will be superannuated as time passes by heavy load and serviceability. Methods of damage detection are used a visual angle of human or non-destructive test in the R.C Building. In case of the latter, Problems of damage detection are occurred to directions of steel bar. Elastic waves are difficult to assaying test using 1 axial type of accelerometer in reinforced concrete. In this study, fundamental studies for estimations using 3 axial type of accelerometer are discussed oscillator of elastic waves when embedded glass tube pipe or steel bar in flexible concrete specimens.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the capabilities of the impulse response method in length and flaw detecting for concrete piles and provide a suggested method to find small-size flaws in piles. In this work, wavelet transform is used to decompose the recorded time domain signal into a series of levels. These levels are narrowband, so the mix of different dominant bandwidths can be avoided. In this study, the impulse response method is used to analyze the signal obtained from the wavelet transform to improve the judgment of the flaw signal so as to detect the flaw location. This study provides a new way of thinking in non-destructive testing detection. The results show that the length of a pile is easy to be detected in the traditional reflection time or frequency domain method. However, the small flaws within pile are difficult to be found using these methods. The proposed approach in this paper is able to greatly improve the results of small-size flaw detection within piles by reducing the effects of any noise and clarifying the signal in the frequency domains.

  • Railway wheels in service are regularly checked by ultrasonic testing, acoustic emission and eddy current testing method and so on. However, ultrasonic testing is sometimes inadequate for sensitively detecting the cracks in railway wheel which is mainly because of the fact of crack closure. Recently, many researchers have actively fried to improve precision for defect detection of railway wheel. The development of a nondestructive measurement tool for wheel defects and its use for the maintenance of railway wheels would be useful to prevent wheel failure. The induced current focusing potential drop(ICFPD) technique is a new non-destructive tasting technique that can detect defects in railway wheels by applying on electro-magnetic field and potential drops variation. In the present paper, the ICFPD technique is applied to the detection of surface and internal defects for railway wheels. To defect the defects for railway wheels, the sensor for ICFPD is optimized and the tests are carried out with respect to 4 surface defects and 6 internal defects each other. The results show that the surface crack depth of 0.5 mm and internal crack depth of 0.7 mm in wheel tread could be detected by using this method. The ICFPB method is useful to detect the defect that initiated in the tread of railway wheels

  • This paper is to study the response of flat plate slab-column connections consisting of various types of shear reinforcement and steel plate subjected to gravity loadings, mainly punching shear forces using the non-destructive testing, spectral analysis of surface waves and structural experiments. The base specimen failed due to punching shear generated from the gravity. The three other types of slab shear reinforcement and steel plate showed effective in resisting punching shear for these types of connections under gravity loading. This study has focused in evaluating the velocity response of a Surface wave during the early age as the poured concrete specimens have been hardened, the possibility of damage detection in the slab-column connection and the relationship between the punching shear forces and the surface wave velocities under the condition that the punching shear forces had gradually increased until the flat plate slab in slab-column connection had been failed.

  • Non-Destructive Health Monitoring using PZT sensors is a major concern and has great significance for research about NDT (Non-Destructive Test). In this paper, we study about the guided wave measurement method using PZT sensors to find cracks and estimate locations. Two aluminum beams bonded with PZT sensors were tested for estimating about the guided wave propagation characteristics and shape of each beam are decided in terms of analytical purpose. NI Signal Acquisition Device and specially designed LabVIEW VI program were used for data acquisition and analysis. The measured data were progressed by using a high-pass filtering.

  • Large welded structures, including ships and offshore structures, are normally in operation under cyclic fatigue loadings. These structures include many geometric discontinuities, as well as material discontinuities due to weld joints. The fatigue strength at these hot spots is very important for the structural performance. In the past, various Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) techniques have been developed to detect fatigue cracks and to estimate their location and size. However, an important limitation of most of the existing NDE methods is that they are off line; the normal operation of the structure has to be interrupted, and the device often has to be disassembled. This study explores the development of a structural health monitoring system, with a special interest in applying the technique to welded structural members in ship and offshore structures. In particular, the impedance based structural health monitoring technique that employs the coupling effect of piezoceramic (PZT) materials and structures is investigated.

  • The preventive diagnosis technique for power system is being highlighted as a research area for deterioration of insulation in machinery because of high-voltage power system. We make efforts to develop not only diagnosis of aging state but also detection of defects in the initial stage from preventive diagnosis technique. Especially, partial discharge is actively studied as a non-destructive diagnosis technique and very useful because partial discharge measurement reduces damage than conventional diagnosis technique. The loaded stress during this test is smaller than that of other diagnosis techniques. But the continuous research for various complicated analysis method is required because partial discharge has very small signals and its signals have complex forms. In this paper, the measurement of partial discharge was investigated and studied on many specimens with void. We made samples having artificial voids and measured partial discharge. In order to use as a practical diagnosis technique, we studied ways of measurement, measured illustrations and types of partial discharge which could be used in order to diagnose defects of power machinery.

  • Recently, spectroscopy has emerged as a potential tool for quality evaluation of numerous food and agricultural products because it provides information regarding both spectral distribution and image features of the sample (i.e., hyperspectral imaging). Spectroscopic techniques reveal hidden information regarding the sample and do so in a non-destructive manner. This review describes the various approaches of spectroscopic modalities, especially hyperspectroscopy and vibrational spectroscopies (i.e., Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transform near infrared spectroscopy) combined with chemometrics for the non-destructive assessment of contaminations and defects in agro-food products.

  • As fiber reinforced composite materials are widely used in aircraft, space structures and robot arms, the study on the non-destructive testing methods of the composite materials has become an important research area for improving their reliability and safety. In this paper, the AE signal analyzer with the resonance circuit to extract the specified frequency of the acoustic emission signal were designed and fabricated. The noise levels of the fabricated AE signal analyzer by the disturbance such as impact or mechanical vibration had a very small value comparable to those of the conventional AE signal analyzer. Also, the crack detection capabilities of the fabricated AE signal analyzer under the static and dynamic tensile test were evaluated and compared with the conventional AE signal analyzer.
