Studies on the Manifestation of Hybrid vigour and Combining Ability in Polyvoltine X Bivoltine (cross breed) Hybrids of Mulberry Silkworm Bombyx mori L.

  • To meet the local requirement i.e. the tropical stress of Andhra Pradesh and marginal farmers, twenty four new hybrid combinations were tested in Line x Tester method involving eight newly developed polyvoltine oval lines viz., MSO1, MSO2, MSO3, MSO4, MSO5, MSO6, MSO7 and MSO8 and three bivoltine silkworm breeds viz., APS12, APS45 and APS8 as testers. These hybrids were reared to evaluate their performance. Data for eight economically important metric traits viz., fecundity, cocoon yield per 10,000 larvae by number, cocoon yield per 10,000 larvae by weight, survival rate, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, cocoon shell ratio and filament length was recorded. General combining ability (gca), specific combining ability (sca) and heterosis were analyzed. Further, the relative merit of the hybrids for all the traits under study was also assessed adopting Evaluation Index method. Based on combining ability effects, heterosis and evaluation index, five hybrid combinations viz., MSO3 $\times$ APS45, MSO1 $\times$ APS12, MSO7 $\times$ APS8, MSO2 $\times$ APS45 and MSO1 $\times$ APS45 were selected for further evaluation in different seasons.

  • 1988년 9월부터 1989년 8월까지 청주지역에서 채집한 유각변형충 및 유각사상근족충류를 광학현미경 및 주사전자현미경을 사용하여 동정하고 이를 재기재하였다. 동정된 5과 19종 1변종 중에서 Arcella gibbosa Penard, A. polypora Rhumbler, Nebela tuberculata(Wallich), Difflugia acuminata var. inflata Penard, D.crassa Cash and Hopkinson, D.curvicaulis Penard, D.elegans Penard, D. lithophila Penard, Pontigulasia compressa(Carter), P. vas(Leidy), Eugly-pha scutigera Penard 등 12종 1변종은 한국에서 처음으로 기록되는 종들이다.

  • 울산 인근의 연못 가장자리 수초에서 채집된 섬모충류가 겹가지섬모충과 (Epistylidae)에 속하는 겹가지섬모충(Epistylis plicatilis Ehrenberg, 1831)과 빈겹가지섬모충 (E. hentscheli Kahl, 1935)으로 각각 동정되어 재기재하였다. 이 종들은 한국에서 처음 보고되는 종들로서 생체표본과 protargol로 염색한 표본에 근거하여 재기재하였다. 원기재와 유사종들과 비교하였는데 겹가지섬모충 (E. plicatilis)은 가늘고 긴 깔대기 형태를 가지며 줄기는 근섬유로 속이 찬 형태이다. 반면에 빈겹가지섬모충 (E. hentscheli)는 비대칭의 종 모양을 띠며 줄기는 속이 텅 빈 형태이다.

Production of Novel Cell-Associated Tannase from Newly Isolated Serratia ficaria DTC

  • Five strains of tannic acid degrading bacteria were isolated and identified by phenotypic characterization. All the five isolates showed cell-associated activity, whereas only three showed extracellular activity. Serratia ficaria DTC, showing the highest cell-associated activity (0.29 U/l), was selected for further shake-flask studies. Tannase synthesis was growth associated and reached the peak in the late stationary phase of growth. Organic nitrogen sources enhanced the tannase production. Peak tannase production of 0.56 U/l was recorded in the medium having the initial pH of 6. The pH and temperature optima of the enzyme were found to be 8.9 and $35^{\circ}C$, respectively. This is the first report of cell-associated activity in the case of bacterial tannase. Cell-associated tannase of Serratia ficaria DTC could be industrially important from the perspective of its activity at broad temperature and pH ranges, and its unusually high activity at pH 8.9.

  • 1989년 3월부터 1990년 10월까지 지리산 국립공원 일대에서 한국산 고등균류를 약 70여종 채집하여 동정한 결과 미기록 1속과 미기록 12종을 확인 하였으며 이들에 대하여 한국 보통명을 신칭하였다. Tubaria (겨나팔버섯속), Collybia areruata (단풍애기버섯), Hygrocybe calyptraeformis (새벽벚꽃버섯), Tubaria fufuracea (겨나팔버 섯), Amanita hemibapha subsp. javanicea (노란띠쟈바버섯), A. alboflabescens (백황색광대버섯), A. neoovoidea (신알광대버섯), Leccinum holopus var. holopus (으뜸껄껄이그물버섯아재비), L. griseum (회색껄껄이그물버섯), Tylopilus nigropurpureus (흑자색쓴맛그물버섯), Lactarius zonarius var. zonarius (당귀젖버섯아재비), L. necator (독젖버섯), Russula alboareolata (흰둘레무당버섯).

The distribution and ecological factors of aerial algae inhabiting stoneworks in Korea

  • The physico-chemical and environmental factors of stoneworks were examined from March 2009 to October 2010, and aerial algae living on 24 stoneworks in Korea were identified. Fifty aerial algae were found in 24 stoneworks. Of the 50 taxa, 30 taxa were cyanophytes, 16 taxa were bacillariophytes, 3 taxa were chlorophytes, and 1 taxon was a xanthophyte. Nine species, including Aphanocapsa rivularis, which is known to only live in aquatic conditions, inhabited both aquatic and aerial environments. Synechococcus aeruginosus, Scytonema coactile var. thermalis, S. coactile var. minor, Stigonema ocellatum f. ocellatum, and Oscillatoria boryana were newly recorded in Korea. As a result of a correlation analysis between algae and the physico-chemical and ecological environmental factors, the taxa were divided into the bryophyte group, the humidity group, and the dry group. Although the bryophyte group was included within the humidity group, it was separated from the dry group. Taxa in the bryophyte group including Nostoc commune which was distributed in more humid areas than those in the humidity group. However, dry group taxa including Chroococcus pallidus were distributed in lower humidity than that of the two other groups. Correlations among other environmental factors were tested to identify other factors that could substitute for humidity and light intensity. As a result, tree distance, water distance, and plant coverage were replaceable environmental factors.

소프트 골프 스윙 시 스윙 패턴 분석 (The Analysis of Swing Pattern during the Soft Golf Swing)

  • Soft Golf is a newly developed recreational sport in our research team aimed to become a safe and easy-to-learn sport for all ages. The advantage of Soft Golf stems from lighter weight of the club and much larger area of the sweet spot. The purpose of this study is to analyze ground reaction force(GRF) and joint angle during soft Golf club and regular golf club swing. The GRF of golf swing was recorded by 3-D motion analysis system and forceplate. The joint angle of golf swing was obtained from computer simulation model. The GRF and joint angle of golf swing are used to analysis of golf swing pattern. The pattern of GRF and joint angle during soft golf club swing was similar to that during regular golf club swing. This result means that soft golf club reduces the risk of injury and has an effect on similar entertainment of regular golf.

한국 미기록 중국민숭참갯지렁이 Nicon sinica WU and SUN, 1979 (New Record of Nicon Sinica (POLYCHAETA : NEREIDAE) in Yellow Sea, Korea)

  • 서해의 저층 회색 펄질로 쌓인 $35^{\circ}\;20.1'N.\; 124^{\circ}\;35.6'E.(84m,\;6.7^{\circ}C),\;35^{\circ}C\;51.3'N.,\;124^{\circ}C\;47.8'E.(85m,\;6.2^{\circ}C)$$36^{\circ}\;19.8'N.,\;125^{\circ}\;00.0'E.\;(74m,\;5.7^{\circ}C)$의 3개 지점에서 예인채니기에 의해 채집된 중국민숭참갯지렁이 Nicon sinica Wu and Sun, 1979가 한국 미기록종이었으므로 이종을 기재하고 민숭참갯지렁이 속 Nicon Kinberg, 1866도 우리 나라 다모환충류상에 처음으로 추가되므로 속이 가입되는 참갯지렁이 과 Nereidae의 속 검색표도 새로 작성하였다. 본 종이 추가되므로 한국산 참갯지렁이 과는 모두 13속 34종이 된다.

  • We developed a new analysis technique for the assessment of irregular vibratory movement of vocal folds. Successive frames of pre-recorded video images from videostroboscopy were transferred to computer memory and a vibratory tract of one selected point was described as a waveform by displaying the same lines of all frames along the y-direction. By applying this technique, irregular vibratory patterns of multiple regions, such as asynchronized registration of glottal cycles, could be easily visualized. It would be possible to monitor and analyze the pathologic changes of vocal fold movement by means of this newly developed system.
