  • This study investigates the capability of Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for solving the solution of partial differential equations. Particularly, the 1D Saint-Venant Equations (SVEs) were considered, which describe the movement of water in a domain with shallow depth compared to its horizontal extent, and are widely adopted in hydrodynamics, river, and coastal engineering. The core contribution of this work is to combine the robustness of neural networks with the physical constraints of the SVEs. The PINNs method utilized a neural network to approximate the solutions of SVEs, while also enforcing the underlying physical principles of the equations. This allows for a more effective and reliable solution, especially in areas with complex geometry and varying bathymetry. To validate the robustness of the PINNs method, numerical experiments were conducted on several benchmark problems. The results show that the PINNs could be achieved high accuracy when compared with the solution from the numerical solution. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of using PINNs and highlights the benefits of integrating neural network and physics information for improved efficiency and accuracy in solving SVEs.

  • An optimization approach is used to solve the division problem of working area, and a cost function is defined to represent the constraints on the solution, which is then mapped onto the Hopfield neural network for minimization. Each neuron in the network represents a possible combination among many components. Division is achieved by initializing each neuron that represents a possible combination and then allowing the network settle down into a stable state. The network uses the initialized inputs and the compatibility measures among components in order to divide working area.

  • An intelligent control technique using a neural network is proposed for offshore structures exposed to sea-bed earthquakes. Fluid-structure interaction effect was considered in developing controller and a training algorithm for the neural network is presented. In the numerical example, the performance of the proposed neural network controller was compared with that of a passive controller and uncontrolled structures. Based on the example, it can be concluded that the proposed neuro-control scheme can be used for offshore structures with nonlinear characteristics due to its interaction with fluid.

  • This paper describes a noise suppression system based on a normalization method using a time-delay neural network and line spectrum pair having a parameter of frequency domain. First, a time-delay neural network is trained using line spectrum pair values of noisy speech signals obtained by linear prediction analysis. After trained the time-delay neural network, the proposed system enhances speech signals that are degraded by a background noise. Accordingly, the proposed time-delay neural network restores from the line spectrum pair values of noisy speech signals to the line spectrum pair values of clean speech signals. It is confirmed that this system is effective for speech signals degraded by a background noise, judging from spectral distortion measurement.

  • Based on the stability criteria of ZMP (Zero Moment Point), this paper proposes an adjusting algorithm that modifies walking trajectory of a bipedal robot for stable walking by analyzing ZMP trajectory of it. In order to maintain walking balance of the bipedal robot, ZMP should be located within a supporting polygon that is determined by the foot supporting area with stability margin. Initially tilting imposed to the trajectory of the upper body is proposed to transfer ZMP of the given walking trajectory into the stable region for the minimum stability. A neural network method is also proposed for the stable walking trajectory of the biped robot. It uses backpropagation learning with angles and angular velocities of all joints with tilting to get the improved walking trajectory. By applying the optimized walking trajectory that is obtained with the neural network model, the ZMP trajectory of the bipedal robot is certainly located within a stable area of the supporting polygon. Experimental results show that the optimally learned trajectory with neural network gives more stability even though the tilting of the pelvic joint has a great role for walking stability.

  • The compressive strength of self-compacting concrete (SCC) containing fly ash (FA) is highly related to its constituents. The principal purpose of this paper is to investigate the efficiency of hybrid fuzzy radial basis function neural network with biogeography-based optimization (FRBFNN-BBO) for predicting the compressive strength of SCC containing FA based on its mix design i.e., cement, fly ash, water, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, superplasticizer, and age. In this regard, biogeography-based optimization (BBO) is applied for the optimal design of fuzzy radial basis function neural network (FRBFNN) and the proposed model, implemented in a MATLAB environment, is constructed, trained and tested using 338 available sets of data obtained from 24 different published literature sources. Moreover, the artificial neural network and three types of radial basis function neural network models are applied to compare the efficiency of the proposed model. The statistical analysis results strongly showed that the proposed FRBFNN-BBO model has good performance in desirable accuracy for predicting the compressive strength of SCC with fly ash.

  • The role of quantitative nondestructive evaluation of defects is becoming more important to assure the reliability and the safety of structure, which can eventually be used for residual life evaluation of structure on the basis of fracture mechanics approach. Although ultrasonic technique is one of the most widely used techniques for application of practical field test among the various nondestructive evaluation technique, there are still some problems to be solved in effective extraction and classification of ultrasonic signal from their noisy ultrasonic waveforms. Therefore, crack size determination through a neural network based on the back-propagation algorithm using back-scattered ultrasonic signals is established in this study. For this purpose, aluminum plate containing vertical or inclined surface breaking crack with different crack length was used to receive the back-scattered ultrasonic signals by pulse echo method. Some features extracted from these signals and sizes of cracks were used to train neural network and the neural network's output of the crack size are compared with the true answer.

  • In this paper, we implemented an opto-electronical signal processing system for the edge detection using the diffusion neural network. The diffusion neural network performs a Gaussian and DOG operation efficiently by the diffusion process. The diffusion neural network is more efficient than the LOG masking method in hardware implementation because it has a few connections and the connection weights are fixed-valued. We implemented a diffusion neural network using the characteristics of the light intensity distribution function which is similar to the Gaussian function. We have shown that the system can detect the edge of an image exactly through the experimental results.

  • This paper is proposed hybrid artificial intelligent(HAI) controller for high performance of induction motor drive. The design..of this algorithm based on fuzzy-neural network(FNN) controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural network. This controller uses fuzzy rule as training patterns of a neural network. Also, this controller uses the back-propagation method to adjust the weights between the neurons of neural network in order to minimize the error between the command output and actual output. A model reference adaptive scheme is proposed in which the adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of the adaptive FNN controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. The results of experiment prove that the proposed control system has strong high performance and robustness to parameter variation, and steady-state accuracy and transient response.
