Recently, machine learning algorithms, especially deep learning-based algorithms, have been receiving attention due to its high classification performance. Among the algorithms, Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) is known to be efficient for image processing tasks used for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems(ADAS). However, it is difficult to achieve real-time processing for CNN in vehicle embedded software environment due to the repeated operations contained in each layer of CNN. In this paper, we propose a hardware accelerator which enhances the execution time of CNN by parallelizing the repeated operations such as convolution. Xilinx ZC706 evaluation board is used to verify the performance of the proposed accelerator. For $36{\times}36$ input images, the hardware execution time of CNN is 2.812ms in 100MHz clock frequency and shows that our hardware can be executed in real-time.

In this paper, we propose an implementation of a neural network accelerator for reducing the rendering noise using OpenCL. Among the rendering algorithms, we selects a ray tracing to assure a high quality graphics. Ray tracing rendering uses ray to render, less use of the ray will result in noise. Ray used more will produce a higher quality image but will take operation time longer. To reduce operation time whiles using fewer rays, Learning Base Filtering algorithm using neural network was applied. it's not always produce optimize result. In this paper, a new approach to Matrix Multiplication that is based on General Matrix Multiplication for improved performance. The development environment, we used specialized in high speed parallel processing of OpenCL. The proposed architecture was verified using Kintex UltraScale XKU6909T-2FDFG1157C FPGA board. The time it takes to calculate the parameters is about 1.12 times fast than that of Verilog-HDL structure.

Recently, the convolutional neural network shows high performance in many computer vision tasks. However, convolutional neural networks require enormous amount of operation, so it is difficult to adopt them in the embedded environments. To solve this problem, many studies are performed on the ASIC or FPGA implementation, where an efficient representation method is required. The fixed-point representation is adequate for the ASIC or FPGA implementation but causes a performance degradation. This paper proposes a separate optimization of representations for the convolutional layers and the batch normalization layers. With the proposed method, the required bit width for the convolutional layers is reduced from 16 bits to 10 bits for the ResNet-50 neural network. Since the computation amount of the convolutional layers occupies the most of the entire computation, the bit width reduction in the convolutional layers enables the efficient implementation of the convolutional neural networks.
Electrocardiogram (ECG) classification has become an essential task of modern day wearable devices, and can be used to detect cardiovascular diseases. State-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based ECG classifiers have been designed using various artificial neural networks (ANNs). Despite their high accuracy, ANNs require significant computational resources and power. Herein, three different ANNs have been compared: multilayer perceptron (MLP), convolutional neural network (CNN), and spiking neural network (SNN) only for the ECG classification. The ANN model has been developed in Python and Theano, trained on a central processing unit (CPU) platform, and deployed on a PYNQ-Z2 FPGA board to validate the model using a Jupyter notebook. Meanwhile, the hardware accelerator is designed with Overlay, which is a hardware library on PYNQ. For classification, the MIT-BIH dataset obtained from the Physionet library is used. The resulting ANN system can accurately classify four ECG types: normal, atrial premature contraction, left bundle branch block, and premature ventricular contraction. The performance of the ECG classifier models is evaluated based on accuracy and power. Among the three AI algorithms, the SNN requires the lowest power consumption of 0.226 W on-chip, followed by MLP (1.677 W), and CNN (2.266 W). However, the highest accuracy is achieved by the CNN (95%), followed by MLP (76%) and SNN (90%).
Compared to sensors mainly used in human activity recognition (HAR) systems, inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors are small and light, so can achieve lightweight system at low cost. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a binary neural network (BNN) based gait pattern analysis system using IMU sensor, and present the design and implementation results of an FPGA-based accelerator for computational acceleration. Six signals for gait are measured through IMU sensor, and a spectrogram is extracted using a short-time Fourier transform. In order to have a lightweight system with high accuracy, a BNN-based structure was used for gait pattern classification. It is designed as a hardware accelerator structure using FPGA for computation acceleration of binary neural network. The proposed gait pattern analysis system was implemented using 24,158 logics, 14,669 registers, and 13.687 KB of block memory, and it was confirmed that the operation was completed within 1.5 ms at the maximum operating frequency of 62.35 MHz and real-time operation was possible.

TDC(Transforming the Deconvolutional layer into the Convolutional layer)
Continuous wave (CW) Doppler radar has the advantage of being able to solve the privacy problem unlike camera and obtains signals in a non-contact manner. Therefore, this paper proposes a human activity recognition (HAR) system using CW Doppler radar, and presents the hardware design and implementation results for acceleration. CW Doppler radar measures signals for continuous operation of human. In order to obtain a single motion spectrogram from continuous signals, an algorithm for counting the number of movements is proposed. In addition, in order to minimize the computational complexity and memory usage, binarized neural network (BNN) was used to classify human motions, and the accuracy of 94% was shown. To accelerate the complex operations of BNN, the FPGA-based BNN accelerator was designed and implemented. The proposed HAR system was implemented using 7,673 logics, 12,105 registers, 10,211 combinational ALUTs, and 18.7 Kb of block memory. As a result of performance evaluation, the operation speed was improved by 99.97% compared to the software implementation.

Continuous wave (CW) radar has the advantage of reliability and accuracy compared to other sensors such as camera and lidar. In addition, binarized neural network (BNN) has a characteristic that dramatically reduces memory usage and complexity compared to other deep learning networks. Therefore, this paper proposes binarized neural network based human identification and motion classification system using CW radar. After receiving a signal from CW radar, a spectrogram is generated through a short-time Fourier transform (STFT). Based on this spectrogram, we propose an algorithm that detects whether a person approaches a radar. Also, we designed an optimized BNN model that can support the accuracy of 90.0% for human identification and 98.3% for motion classification. In order to accelerate BNN operation, we designed BNN hardware accelerator on field programmable gate array (FPGA). The accelerator was implemented with 1,030 logics, 836 registers, and 334.904 Kbit block memory, and it was confirmed that the real-time operation was possible with a total calculation time of 6 ms from inference to transferring result.
Recently, deep learning technology is widely used in various computer vision applications, such as object recognition, classification, and image generation. In particular, the deep learning-based super-resolution has been gaining significant performance improvement. Fast super-resolution convolutional neural network (FSRCNN) is a well-known model as a deep learning-based super-resolution algorithm that output image is generated by a deconvolutional layer. In this paper, we propose an FPGA-based convolutional neural networks accelerator that considers parallel computing efficiency. In addition, the proposed method proposes Optimal-FSRCNN, which is modified the structure of FSRCNN. The number of multipliers is compressed by 3.47 times compared to FSRCNN. Moreover, PSNR has similar performance to FSRCNN. We developed a real-time image processing technology that implements on FPGA.
