This study examined the weight control and food habits in 160 obese children and 191 normal-weight children in 4th, 5th and 6th graders of some elementary schools in Gumi city. Regarding the subjects' self-recognition of their body shape, 27.8% of the normal weight group and 92.5% of the obese group acknowledged themselves to be obese. 58.9% of the normal weight group and 61.0% of the obese group were not satisfied with their own body shape and the difference between two groups was very small, 23.6% of the normal weight group and 87.5% of the obese group have tried to reduce weight. The main causative factor of weight gain that children themselves recognized was a sedentary life style. All the students showed a high rate of irregular and unbalanced diet. The obese children showed a significantly higher rate of skipping meals and eating meals faster than the normal weight children. More obese children disliked exercise, and did less excercise than the normal weight children. There was a negative correlation between the obesity index and the food habit score. In other words, they frequently skip a meals, eat in a hurry and dislike vegetables and dairy products. In addition, there was a positive correlation between the student's BMI and the parents' BMI. Overall, many normal weight children showed a high level of self-consciousness of being obese or underweight. Both groups showed a low degree of satisfaction with their own body shape. Therefore education for the distorted perception of body shape is needed because, even normal weight children have tried to reduce their weight. Obese children should be encouraged to exercise, not skip a meals and eat slowly. They also need a systematic education program on weight reduction and weight maintenance. Moreover, education on a healthy diet, healthy food habits, and healthy body shape are necessary for elementary school children.

Background: Birth asphyxia is a leading cause of neonatal mortality. Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels may have a predictive role in the identification and prevention of hypoxic disorders, as they increase in cases of ischemia of the liver, heart, brain, bowel, and kidney. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the value of IMA levels as a diagnostic marker for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Methods: Sixty newborns who fulfilled 3 or more of the clinical and biochemical criteria and developed HIE as defined by Levene staging were included in our study as the asphyxia group. Neonates with congenital malformation, systemic infection, intrauterine growth retardation, low-birth weight, cardiac or hemolytic disease, family history of neurological diseases, congenital or perinatal infections, preeclampsia, diabetes, and renal diseases were excluded from the study. Sixty healthy neonates matched for gestational age and with no maternal history of illness, established respiration at birth, and an Apgar score ≥7 at 1 and 5 minutes were included as the control group. IMA was determined by double-antibody enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay of a cord blood sample collected within 30 minutes after birth. Results: Cord blood IMA levels were higher in asphyxiated newborns than in controls (250.83±36.07 pmol/mL vs. 120.24±38.9 pmol/mL). Comparison of IMA levels by HIE stage revealed a highly significant difference among them (207.3±26.65, 259.28±11.68, 294.99±4.41 pmol/mL for mild, moderate, and severe, respectively). At a cutoff of 197.6 pmol/mL, the sensitivity was 84.5%, specificity was 86%, positive predictive value was 82.8%, negative predictive value was 88.3%, and area under the curve was 0.963 (P<0.001). Conclusion: IMA levels can be a reliable marker for the early diagnosis of neonatal HIE and can be a predictor of injury severity.
This study was done to examine the relationship among psychosocial well-being, perceived health status and health promoting lifestyle practices, and to Identify those variables affecting a health promoting lifestyle. Three hundred and forty five ruddle-aged adults completed a multiple self-reported questionnaire on psychosocial well-being, perceived health status and health promoting lifestyle profile. Data analysis were conducted by using Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and stepwise multiple regression nth SAS program. The results are as follows : 1. The average item score for psychosocial well-being was low at 55.98, the level of perceived health status was moderate at 5.76, and health promoting lifestyle practices were low at 110.09. Among the subscales of the health promoting lifestyle profile, stress management and self-actualization were scored higher than exercise and health responsibility. 2. Performance of health promoting lifestyle was positively correlated with perceived health status and negatively correlated with psychosocial well-being. Also, negative correlations were observed between perceived health status and psychosocial well-being. 3. There were statistically significant differences for health promoting lifestyle, psychosocial well-being and perceived health status according to sociodemographic variables. The performance of health promoting lifestyle was significantly different according to education, economic status and marriage satisfaction. Psychosocial well-being was also significantly different according to education, marriage satisfaction, and exercise. Perceived health status was significantly different according to education, occupation, and economic status. 4. Perceived health status, psychosocial well-being, marriage satisfaction and level of education together explained 21.62% of varience in the performance of health promoting lifestyle. These findings help to clarify relationships among psychosocial well-being, perceived health status, and health promoting lifestyle practices in middle-aged adults. Therefore, the result of study provide clues for encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles and constructing alternative strategies for promoting health practices.
One hundred and twenty crossbred pigs [(Duroc$\times$Yorkshire)$\times$Landrace] were used to determine the effects of plant extract (PE) supplementation on performance and blood characteristics in weaned pigs fed a corn-dried whey-SBM based diet. Treatments were 1) NC (antibiotic free basal diet), 2) PC (NC diet+100 ppm apramycin and 100 ppm oxytetracycline), 3) PE 0.1 (NC diet+0.1% plant extract), 4) PE 0.2 (NC diet+0.2% plant extract) and 5) PE+AB (PC diet+0.1% plant extract). Through the entire experimental period, ADG of pigs fed PC (300 vs. 281 g/d), PE 0.2 (310 vs. 281 g/d) and PE+AB (306 vs. 281 g/d) diets was higher than that of pigs fed NC diet (p<0.05). However, no differences were found among the treatments for ADFI and gain/feed. At day 2 after the onset of the experiment, fecal consistency score of pigs fed PC, PE 0.1, PE 0.2 and PE+AB diets was lower than that of pigs fed NC diet. There were no significant differences in red blood cell, white blood cell, lymphocytes, neutrophils and monocytes concentrations of blood among the treatments. In conclusion, PE can be used to replace antibiotics in diets for weaned pigs without negative affects on performance. Optimal PE levels seemed to be 0.2% and the results obtained point out to a synergic effect of the combination of PE and antibiotic on performance in weaned pigs.
Background: Engaging and Involving stakeholders who have different interests in changing health care policies are difficult task. As the literature on the governance in Korean health care field is rare, this study aims to provide empirical evidence of 'governing health policy'-the ways health care policy is made, implemented, and evaluated from a political perspective. Methods: The authors of this study conducted interviews with elites in policy and clinical areas, which was considered to be the most effective approach to gather in-depth information about the background of changing payment policy as well as the barriers or contributors for making the policy sustainable. A total of 14 experts (3 government officials, 2 representatives from medical profession, 3 professors form academic field, and 6 healthcare providers from New DRG pilot program hospitals) participated in 2 hour long interviews. Results: There was a perception gap of the feasibility and substantiality of new payment system among elites. The score was higher in government officers than those in scholars or clinical experts. Next, the interviewees indicated that Korean New DRG might not sustain without significant efforts to improving democratic aspects of the governance. It is also notable that all interviewees except healthcare providers provided negative expectation of the contribution of new payment system to increase administration efficiency. For clinical efficiency, every stakeholders perceived there was no increased efficiency after introduction of New DRG payment. Like general perception, there was a wide gap between the perception of stakeholders in quality change after implementing the new payment system. Finally, interview participants negatively assumed about the likelihood of New DRG to remain a case of successful reforms. Conclusion: This study implied the importance of social consensus and the governance of health policy.
This study was designed firstly to measure the job satisfaction levels of F&B (Food & Beverage) personnel in hotels by using JDI (Job Descriptive Index) and secondly to identify the effects of job satisfaction on intention to quit by job type. Of 498 respondents, there were 245 employees in the back of the house (eBOH) and 253 in the front of the house (eFOH). From an analysis on job satisfaction, total JDI, score was 136.57${\pm}$11.48 out of a maximum 210 and the payroll (14.79 out of 21, 70.4%) facet of JDI was the highest job satisfaction followed by co-workers (36.07 out of 54, 66.8%), supervision (35.37 out of 54, 65.5%), promotion (17.45 out of 27, 64.6%) and work itself (32.86 out of 54, 60.8%). In comparison between the job satisfaction of eBOH and eFOH, eFOH perceived significantly higher than eBOH for job itself (p<.001) and total job satisfaction (p<.01). No facets of JDI were significant by job level, but work itself (p<.05), payroll (p<.05), supervision (p<.01) and promotion (p<.05) were significant by work section in eFOH,. In addition, no facets except work itself were significant by either job level or work section in eFOH. Finally, among job satisfaction facets, payroll had a negative effect on intention to quit whereas supervision had a positive effect on it in eBOH. On the other, work itself affected intention to quit positively but promotion affected it negatively. The findings confirmed the necessity for internal marketing focusing on the lower level of job satisfaction facets and indicated that such a focus would improve organizational effectiveness.
In this study, to prove the effect of soybeans's electron donating ability and its addition on eel gouem, storage and sensory characteristics were examined. During the storage period, pH values of all gouem samples were decreased with initial increase except the control. BSB $3\%$ sample had the lowest pH value and YSB $10\%$ sample was the highest 6.71 in pH value at first storage day. The electron donating ability of soybeans were increased with the amount of addition. The electron donating ability of SBSB 20g sample was the highest, which was 2 ${\~}$ 3 times higher than that of YSB sample. L values of all the gouem samples had a tendency to decrease according to the storage period and amount of addition. All samples' a values were increased throughout the storage period, while b values decreased except the control and GNG sample. TBA and VBN values of all the samples were up and down throughout the storage period SBSB $10\%$ sample had the lowest in TBA value. The electron donating ability of all soybean samples and TBA value of eel gouem samples showed a negative correlation. Total plate count of bacteria was increased rapidly for initial storage period, but all samples showed a tendency of slow growth after the 8th day of storage. During all storage days, SBSB, BSB samples had a similar tendency of low total plate count growth. GNG $10\%$ sample showed the lowest in total plate count of bacteria at sixteenth day of storage. Sensory scores of all samples decreased with storage. For all the items of the sensory evaluation, SBSB $5\%$ sample got the highest score among all eel gouem samples. GNGSB sample showed the lowest in TBA value and total plate count of bacteria. And in the sensory evaluation, GNGSB sample got the highest scores for several items.
Purpose: This study examined the influence of the consumption values on the attitudes and purchase intentions of consumers towards gluten-free products and compared consumption values, attitudes and purchase intentions according to the degree of health consciousness of the consumer. Methods: The data was collected from July 20, 2016 to August 2, 2016 through a questionnaire survey from three hundred and six consumers who had knowledge of gluten-free products. The data was analyzed by factor analysis, reliability analysis, multiple regression analysis, and an independent sample t-test using the SPSS program. Results: The regression results showed that the exploratory value (p<0.01) had a negative influence on the attitudes, and the functional value (p<0.001) and emotional value (p<0.001) had a positive influence on the consumers' attitudes. In addition, the attitudes (p<0.001) toward gluten-free products had a positive influence on the purchase intentions. Finally, the high health consciousness group answered with a significantly higher score on the consumption values, attitudes and purchase intentions than the lower group. Conclusion: These results highlight the causal relationship among consumption values, attitudes, and purchase intentions of consumers towards gluten-free products, and can provide a basic understanding of gluten free products regarding both marketing strategy and consumers' needs. The potential implications for gluten-free products manufacturers, limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the ability to maintain dynamic sitting balance (DSB), biomechanical characteristics, and physical characteristics in spinal cord injuries (SCI) patients. Background: Virtual ski training systems, ski equipment, and training protocols for disabled skiers are being studied to spread awareness. However, few studies have been reported on the sitting balance ability associated with chair mono skiing. Method: A dynamic sitting balance border system was built to investigate the ability to maintain dynamic sitting balance in SCI patients. Trunk muscle activity was evaluated by electromyogram while conducting dynamic sitting balance tests. The trunk muscle strength was tested with a portable handheld dynamometer. Physical activity scores were measured with the physical activity recall assessment. Results: There were high levels of correlation between the ability to maintain DSB and trunk flexor strength, extensor strength, rotator strength, and physical activity score. However, height, weight, and injury level in SCI patients were not correlated with the ability to maintain DSB. Additionally, strong negative correlations were found between muscle activities of the external oblique and lumbar erector spinae muscles and the ability to perform the backward tilt test. Trunk extensor muscle activity during the ball lifting test was significantly higher than in other tests. Conclusion: The results indicate that improving trunk muscle strength and physical activity can increase the ability to maintain DSB. Application: The findings of a close relationship between trunk strength, physical activity, and the ability to maintain DSB need to be reflected in the chair mono ski training program.
Objectives Suicide is a complex phenomenon not only caused by the individual's mental illness and economic situation, but also occurred in sociocultural contexts and relationships around the individual. Therefore, the attitudes, which include collective norms, thoughts and feelings of a population, toward suicide play a fundamental role in the prevention of suicide. Factor structure of Attitudes Toward Suicide (ATTS), developed by Renberg, is also various in different sociocultural contexts. This is the first study to investigate factor structure of ATTS along with nationwide sample of Korean adults. Methods This study analyzed the factor structure and reliability of ATTS in 1500 regionally stratified Korean adults. Exploratory factor analysis was performed by using principal axis factoring and varimax rotation. Results The selection of 33 ATTS items based on internal consistency and communality was conducted. Five factors were analyzed, which were named 'Good reason,' 'Negative gaze,' 'Predictability,' 'Means of escape,' and 'Common secret,' respectively. Explained total variance was 41.94%, and the internal consistency ranged from 0.516 to 0.740. Conclusions Each of the five factors contains different semantic dimensions. Consistent with previous studies, factors containing permissive attitude toward suicide was high in those with history of suicidal thought and of suicide attempt. It is notable that the 'Good reason' showed higher score in elderly. This may be related to socioeconomic or physical adversities which have been considered the major cause of suicide in elderly.
