A skeletal system of Coreoleuciscus splendidus from Seomjin and Mankyeong Rivers is described and figured in detail. The osteological characteristics are as follow: preorbital area elongated; eight proximal radials on the anal fin; 1st basibranchial bone with a bottle gourd shape; two types of pharynegeal teeth; intercalarium's ascending process absent and rib 4 broad greatly. Meanwhile, the number of actinost and the length of external process and internal process on the pelvic girdle are variable with individuals. These characteristics are shown in the two population. The epural on the caudal skeleton, however, has two types only in C. splendidus of Mankyeong River.
To test flavonoids for antibacterial activity against oral micraorganisms, flavonoids, quercetrin and naringenin, were incorporated into two pharmaceutical preparations in the form of tooth paste. Samplees of dental plaque, the msot accused dental deposit which initiates the gingival and periodental diseases, were collected from the teeth surface of ten dental students at one week interval before and after using placebo, followed by two formulae of tooth paste containing 0.1% of quercetrin and naringenin (formulas I and II, respectively). The amount of dental plaque was assessed by the quigley and Hens index. Then plaque samples were subjected to bacteriological examination of Gram stain and plate counts of microorganisms. The amount of dental plaque was assessed by the Quigley and Hens index. Then plaque samples were subjected to bacteriological examination of Gram stain and plate counts of microorganisms. The results revealed that most of Gram negative cocci and bacilli were highly affected by the two formulae : the number of actinomycetes were decreased after using formula I and disappeared completely by the sue of formula II, while the number of Gram positive streptococci was highly decreased after the treatment with the two formulae. These results indicate a possible use of flavonoids to inhibit dental plaque formation.
English vowels play an important role in the daily communication between Korean students and international visitors. However, many Korean students still have difficulty producing them distinctively. Vowels vary according to shapes of oral and pharyngeal cavities, which are mainly determined by the degree of jaw opening and tongue position. Yang (2008a) proposed a simplified chart of English and Korean vowels for an educational purpose. He also suggested to use wooden chopsticks to secure distinguishable jaw openings. The purpose of this study is to tap whether wooden chopsticks can be applicable to a method for correcting English vowel pronunciation. Twelve male and female students participated in the recordings of eight /hVd/ words followed by additional recordings with wooden chopsticks between upper and lower teeth. The first and second formant trajectories of both natural and controlled vowel productions were obtained and compared at six equidistant measurement points using Praat. Results showed that the formant values of natural vowel productions were comparable to those of controlled productions. Vowels with similar formant trajectories of male students were separated with the aid of chopsticks. The width of each chopstick could be controlled similarly in the experiment. The author concludes that wooden chopsticks can be useful to correct vowel pronunciation. Further studies are desirable for native speakers to make perceptual evaluations of controlled vowel productions by nonnative speakers.
This study was to assess the antimicrobial action of 2-hydroxyethyl ${\beta}$-undecenate purified from cumin (Cuminum cymium L.) seed against the oral anaerobe, Streptococcus mutans, which is associated with gingivitis, specifically focusing on the catabolic effect. 2-Hydroxyethyl ${\beta}$-undecenate inhibited the acid production and growth of S. mutans after 30 hr incubation at 50 mM. The glycolysis of S. mutans with glucose as substrate was similarly sensitive to 2-hydroxyethyl ${\beta}$-undecenate, with 70% inhibition of glucose utilization at 5 mM and 90% inhibition at 50 mM. In addition, this substance potently inhibited the glycolysis enzyme, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GADP); the phosphoenolpyruvate, glucose phosphotransferase (Glucose-PTS); and membrane ATPase, in a concentration dependent manner. The $IC_{50}$ values for inhibition of GADP, Glucose-PTS, and ATPase were 1, 0.9, and 5 mM, respectively. Furthermore, 2-hydroxyethyl ${\beta}$-undecenate inhibited teeth calcium ion elution by 80% at 50 mM. These results suggest that 2-hydroxyethyl ${\beta}$-undecenate is a potent inhibitor of carbohydrate metabolism and the growth of S. mutans JC-2.
Physiologic tooth attrition is accepted as a natural change. But when pathologic changes, such as loss of occlusal vertical dimension, masticatory pain, loss of masticatory function, and loss of esthetics occur, restorative measures should be taken by dentist. A patient visited the clinic with the chief complaint of 'My lower teeth bite the palate and it hurts'. It was diagnosed as iatrogenic attrition of lower natural dentition caused by inappropriate upper restorations, resulting in traumatic overbite. Through model analysis and diagnostic wax up, increase in vertical dimension was decided. Upper and lower dentitions were restored with new prostheses. After restoration, satisfactory outcomes were achieved both in functional and esthetic aspects.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the performance of a deep learning system for permanent tooth germ detection on pediatric panoramic radiographs. Materials and Methods: In total, 4518 anonymized panoramic radiographs of children between 5 and 13 years of age were collected. YOLOv4, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based object detection model, was used to automatically detect permanent tooth germs. Panoramic images of children processed in LabelImg were trained and tested in the YOLOv4 algorithm. True-positive, false-positive, and false-negative rates were calculated. A confusion matrix was used to evaluate the performance of the model. Results: The YOLOv4 model, which detected permanent tooth germs on pediatric panoramic radiographs, provided an average precision value of 94.16% and an F1 value of 0.90, indicating a high level of significance. The average YOLOv4 inference time was 90 ms. Conclusion: The detection of permanent tooth germs on pediatric panoramic X-rays using a deep learning-based approach may facilitate the early diagnosis of tooth deficiency or supernumerary teeth and help dental practitioners find more accurate treatment options while saving time and effort
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of bioactive glass and natural coral on the human periodontal ligament fibroblast(HPLF) behaviors during the regeneration process of peridontium. To determine the cellular events occuring in the presence of the particles of bioactive glass and natural coral, HPLF were isolated from healthy premolar teeth extracted for orthodontic treatment. Cells were cultured in ${\alpha}$MEM at 37$^{\circ}C$, 5% $CO_2$, 95% humidity incubator. Bioactive glass and natural coral were powdered, and each particles(<40${\mu}$m) were placed on the cultured cells at the concentration of 0.3mg/ml, and 1,0mg/ml for experimental group. In control group no particles were added. And each group was evaluated by examining the cell morphology under phase-contrast micrograph at 4 day and transmission electron micrograph(TEM) and scanning electron micrograph(SEM) at 14 day, alkaline phosphatase activity at 5 and 9 day, protain synthesis at 4 day, DNA synthesis at 1, 2, 3 and 4 day, cell proliferation at 1, 3, 5,7 and 9 day and the formation of bone nodule at 30 day after culturing all groups in mineralizing supplemented mediun, No significant changes in cell morphology by adding these two matirials were found under phase contrast microscopy and TEM. HPLF phagocytocized each particles suggesting that HPLF is involved in the process of resorbing each particles and that bioactive glass were more biocompatible than natural coral. The ALPase activity of bioactive glass 0.3 mg/ml was similar with control groups and all the rests of control groups were significantly low(P<0.01) indicating a transient dedifferentiation of HPLF in the presence of bioactive glass and natural coral particles. There were no significant differences of protein synthesis between all groups. The DNA synthesis in experimental groups were significantly lower than control groups at 1, 2 and 3 day (P<0.01) but became similar to control groups at 4 day. Between control groups, the DNA synthesis in bioactive glass O.3mglml group was significantly higher than other groups(P<0.01). Cell proliferation in natural coral 1.0mg/ml and bioactive glass 1.0mglml groups were significantly lower than control group at 3 day(P<0.05) and there were no differences at 5, 7, 9 day. There were more bone nodule formation in experimental groups than in control groups. In conclusion, these results indicated that bioactive glass and natural coral have some effects of a transient dedifferentiation on HPLF and regeneration of periodontal tissues, however any significant cytotoxic effect on HPLF by these two particles were not found.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the tightness of proximal tooth contact(TPTC) using a novel device at rest state on implant prostheses. Ten healthy young adults with class I normal occlusion consented to participate in the study and twenty patients were restored with a total 20 single-implant crowns in the left maxillary and mandibular second molars for 10 single-implant crowns, respectively. Test area were divided by 4 groups. UM describes the contact between the upper natural left first molar and natural second molar; LM the contact between the lower natural left first molar and natural second molar; IUM the contact between the upper natural left first molar and implant second molar and ILM the contact between the lower natural left first molar and implant second molar. The TPTC was measured at rest state in each area. The mean TPTC of the UM, LM, IUM and ILM was 1.48(${\pm}0.44$) N, 1.78(${\pm}0.40$) N, 1.14(${\pm}0.37$) N and 1.30(${\pm}0.32$) N respectively. These results indicate that the TPTC was less between natural tooth and implant prosthesis than between natural teeth.
The proper occlusal design is one of the most important factors for the long-term success. The purpose of this research is to investigate and define occlusal considerations to reduce failure of implant-supported fixed prostheses. The physiological movement of implants is markedly lower than that of natural teeth and they also lack in occlusal sensitivity. Proper occulsal pattern may be assigned to compensate for the biological disadvantages and occlusal contacts must be formed where the cantilever effect is minimized. Moreover, the long-term success can be assured by reducing early occulsal loading to avoid implant overloading and selecting appropriate occlusion material.

A kind of three-way check valve, so called hydraulic calve was proposed for the substitute of the density lock of passive reactor such as SPWR (System-Integrated Pressurized Water Reactor). The function of the valve are the separation of the borated water from main coolant loop for normal operation and the insurge of the water into the loop for shutdown and the removal of the decay power when the main coolant flow rate is not enough. To verify the operability and the characteristics of the valve, experimental works were executed with 1/3 scale model calve. Also a diffuser model was proposed for the theoretical analysis of the valve.
