  • In this paper, we present a novel system to categorize web image search results using emotional concepts and to browse the results more conveniently and easily. The proposed system can categorize search results into 8 emotional categories based on emotion vector, which obtained by color and pattern features. Here, we use Kobayashi’s emotional categories: {romantic, natural, casual, elegant, chic, classic, dandy and modern}. With search results for a given query, the proposed system can provide categorized images for each emotional category. With 1,000 Yahoo! search images, we compared the proposed method with Yahoo! image search engine in respect of satisfaction, efficiency, convenience and relevance with a user study. Our experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Riverside forests make a river bank stable because trees of them hold together the stone and soil by roots and decrease the speed of running fluid by trunks. So they become known to have positive effects on flood prevention. So This study will be a basic study to preserve and restore of riverside forests. The goal of this study is to classify types of Han riverside forests between Yangpyeng and Yeoju gun. and find out sites of planting. Results of this study can be summarized as follows; The evaluation indicators were set up based on literature review and site survey. Two indicator categories were developed: natural environment and human environment. And they were divided into 5 sub-categories for calculating weights. As for the major indicator categories, the weighted index of natural environment is at 0.5. And the weighted index of human environment is at 0.5 followed by access at 0.15, the range of user at 0.15, cultivated land at 0.1 and legislation at 0.1. This study selected 53 sites for riverside forests planting. They were classified with types of bank(11), level-upped riverside(32), island(10). The amount of the length of 11 bank types is 23,050m, the area of 32 level-upped riverside types is $4,490,000m^2$ and the area of 10 island types is $4,590,000m^2$. After the evaluation of 53 riverside forests, this study selected 12 sites of riverside forests. They were two bank types, nine level-upped riverside types, and one island type. • In recent times, studies sentiment analysis are being actively conducted by implementing natural language processing technologies for analyzing subjective data such as opinions and attitudes of users expressed on the Web, blogs, and social networking services (SNSs). Conventionally, to classify the sentiments in texts, most studies determine positive/negative/neutral sentiments by assigning polarity values for sentiment vocabulary using sentiment lexicons. However, in this study, sentiments are classified based on Thayer's model, which is psychologically defined, unlike the polarity classification used in opinion mining. In this paper, as a method for classifying the sentiments, sentiment categories are proposed by extracting sentiment keywords for major sentiments by using hashtags, which are essential elements of Instagram. By applying sentiment categories to user posts, sentiments can be determined through the similarity measurement between the sentiment adjective candidates and the sentiment keywords. The test results of the proposed method show that the average accuracy rate for all the sentiment categories was 90.7%, which indicates good performance. If a sentiment classification system with a large capacity is prepared using the proposed method, then it is expected that sentiment analysis in various fields will be possible, such as for determining social phenomena through SNS.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of structural properties of plain knit fabrics on the subjective textures and sensibilities of consumers. We investigated the relationship of subjective textures and sensibilities according to fiber contents of wool/rayon and stitch loop length. We made 20 plain knit fabrics, as specimens, with a combination of 5 kinds of fiber contents and 4 kinds of stitch loop length. A factor analysis showed that subjective textures are classified into 3 categories with $R^2=70.32\%$: 'surface-rough', 'drapable', 'bulky' and 'elastic' and subjective sensibilities into 3 categories with $R^2=68.12\%$: 'stable/neat', 'feminine/elegant' and 'natural/comfortable'. The fiber contents of wool/rayon had a positive and linear relation with 'surface-rough', but had a relatively non-linear one with 'bulky' and 'elastic' categories of textures, and 'feminine/elegant' of sensibilities. The stitch loop length had a linear influence on 'drapable' and 'stable/neat', but had a non-linear influence on other subjective textures and sensibilities.

  • Unlike individual applications, it is extremely hard to obtain user requirements for group systems, since there exists very complicated dynamics in group. This may result in spreading a great amount of products with a broad range of contents. Thus, this study presents a comparative analysis of groupware products. As a result, these products have been categorized into three areas which include cooperation/document management systems, collaborative writing systems, and decision-making/meeting systems. While the systems reviewed here focus on the cooperation/document management systems, the other two areas will be dealt in details in part Ⅱ. The first area ends up with two large categories such as proprietary groupware products and intranet groupware products. However, it has been observed that there is a natural convergence between these two categories. Consequently, the comparative analysis has been performed in terms of functions provided on the two categories and a combined category. Each group of the functions has been divided into three parts which consist of basic functions, quasi-basic functions, and others. Such a decision has been made based on the frequency rate of the functions provided in the products. With a more strict rule, the basic functions comprise electronic mail, sanction, bulletin board, document management, scheduling, security, Web browser, and Internet connectivity. This study also provides a framework for integrated functional model of groupware systems. The basic functions are merged into the model. However, the model is so flexible that it can partially include the quasi-functions in addition to the basic functions. In the future, it is expected that a large number of products will stem from the modification of the functional model.

  • We have constructed cDNA library from the larvae whole body of the firefly, Pyrocoelia rufa. Single direct partial sequencing of anonymous cDNA clones was performed to obtain genetic information on the firefly, P. rufa, of which genetic information is currently not available. This expressed sequence tags (EST) analysis of the 54 clones (54%) showed significant homology to the known genes registered in GenBank. Of these clones, twenty-four were related to the known insect genes, but these clones were not matched to previously identified firefly genes. Putative functional categories of these clones showed that the next abundant genes were associated with energy metabolism.
