In the current study, we surveyed the status of graveyard lawn maintenance in Korea. The lawn maintenance information was obtained from the vicarious companies registered on the internet portal site and the Forestry Federation of Korea, and the questionnaire investigation from Primary Agricultural Cooperatives (Nonghyup). In all provinces surveyed, individual graves were maintained on a $66m^2$ (20 Pyeong) basis. The vicarious maintenance of graveyard lawn was carried out 1~5 times a year, and the maintenance cost increased as the number of times increased. Mowing the grass around a grave (Beolcho) was mainly done before the Korean Thanksgiving Day (Chuseok). The number of Beolcho was steadily increased from 2013 to 2015, and the price was getting higher and higher. Gyeonggi province had the highest cost, and Jeolla had the lowest cost. Regardless of the year, the number of orders received were higher in Gyeongnam > Gyeongbuk > Jeonnam province in order. Most of the reason for requested Beolcho was because the client lives in the area far from the graveyard. The direction of the cemetery was very varied. According to the survey, the all grass were zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica), and grass coverage rate of the graves was 35.4~71.9%. Through questionnaire investigation, the reason why the density of grass was lowered was because the periodic management of weeds and fallen leaves was insufficient. Further research on the maintenance of graveyard in the future will be necessary.
Polymeric meterials that are used for noise and vibration damper in wood/polymer/wood sandwich composites, must have a high loss factor(tan ${\delta}$), and at the same time the storage modulus(E) of $5{\times}10^7$ to $10^9$ dyne/$cm^2$ must withstand over a wide temperature and frequency ranges. In this study, the series of epoxy resinlpolyacrylate interpenetrating polymer networks(IPNs) were synthesized by simultaneous polymerization. Their dynamic tensile properties were measured at 110Hz using Rheovibron instrument. Composite damping factor(tan ${\delta}_c$) and dynamic bending modulus($E_c,\;E_^{\prime\prime}c$) of wood/polymer/wood sandwich composites were measured at 110Hz using a Rheovibron in bending mode of vibration. These dynamic tensile studies indicated that cured epoxy resin/polyacrylates IPNs were semicompatible in the sense that both the shifting of T($E^{\prime\prime}_{max}$) or T(tan ${\delta}_{max}$) and the broadening of glass transition temperature range were observed. Especially, the cured Epikote871/P(n-BMA) IPNs of composition 70/30 to 50/50 showed a relatively high tan a and appropriate E' value over a wide temperature range; consequently the tan a e curves of wood/IPNs/wood sandwich composites was broadened over a wide temperature range.

To estimate the groundwater recharge, the fully distributed parameter based model, MIKE SHE was applied to the Gyeongan-cheon watershed which is one of the tributaries of Han River Basin, and covers approximately $260km^2$ with about 49 km main stream length. To set up the model, spatial data such as topography, land use, soil, and meteorological data were compiled, and grid size of 200m was applied considering computer ability and reliability of the results. The model was calibrated and validated using a split sample procedure against 4-year daily stream flows at the outlet of the watershed. Statistical criteria for the calibration and validation results indicated a good agreement between the simulated and observed stream flows. The annual recharges calculated from the model were compared with the values from the conventional groundwater recession curve method, and the simulated groundwater levels were compared with the observed values. As a result, it was concluded that the model could reasonably simulate the groundwater level and recharge, and could be a useful tool for estimating spatially/temporally the groundwater recharges, and enhancing the analysis of the watershed water cycle.
To develop the technology of producing structural board from low grade materials, an attempt was made to produce strand/particle composites from split wood strand(S) and particle(P) of (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don), which changed the layer construction and the ratio of S/P. The influence of layer construction on board properties was determined, focusing on the number and alignment of the S layers. The effect of weight ratio of S/P (3:7, 1:1, 7:3) on mechanical properties was also discussed on seven layered panel. Mechanical properties were determined from static bending tests to give parallel and perpendicular modulus of rupture (MOR) and modulus of elasticity (MOE), and the internal bond (IB) strength. In general, the surface strand layers contributed to the MOR and MOE. The parallel MOR and MOE values were the largest for the single layered S panel (only Slayers: S1), but the perpendicular MOR and MOE was the smallest. Perpendicular MOR and MOE were the largest for seven layered composite that had two cross oriented strand layers (SPSPSPS: SP7). Specimens retained more than half of their MOE and MOR after two hours in boiling water and one hour soaking. IB was the largest for the panel having only P layers, however, differences in IB strength were not identified among the other multi-layered composite panels thus the effect of layer construction on IB strength was small. Thickness swelling (TS) and surface roughness were smaller for the composite having P layers on the surface than for those having S layers. The addition of strands did not enhance the mechanical properties (MOR, MOE, IB). TS values for the panels, with which the S/P ratio was over than 1:1, was the similar to the value for the single layered S panels.
Variation of wood rays within a growth ring and along axial direction in Pinus koraiensis and Larix kaempferi, which are important Korean commercial softwoods, was examined to get some useful information for their effective utilization. Ray height in cell number and ray number per $0.25mm^2$ in tangential section were investigated by optical microscopy. The average heights of uniseriate rays in Pinus koraiensis and Larix kaempferi were 6.3 and 9.1 cells, respectively. The average numbers of uniseriate rays per $0.25mm^2$ in Pinus koraiensis and Larix kaempferi were 6.5 and 7.5, respectively. The average heights of fusiform rays were about 20 cells but were not significantly different in both species. From earlywood to latewood within a growth ring, the heights of uniseriate and fusiform rays decreased but their numbers remained almost constant. Along axial direction, the heights of uniseriate rays in both species increased with the increase of stem height, and the numbers of uniseriate rays per $0.25mm^2$ in Pinus koraiensis were nearly constant from 0.2 m to 5.2 m but increased up to 19.2 m beyond 5.2 m. However, a constant pattern in the numbers of uniseriate rays was not observed in Larix kaempferi. The heights of fusiform rays in both species were the highest in middle part of stems but were the lowest in base and top of trees. In conclusion, the ray variation pattern was comparatively clear within a growth ring but not clear along axial direction.

The principal reasons for applying a pigment coating to paper are to improve appearance and printability. The pigment coating provides a surface that is more uniform and more receptive to printing ink than are the uncoated fibers and, in turn, both facilitates the printing process and enhances the graphic reproduction. The improvement in print quality is readily apparent, especially in image areas or when multiple colors are involved. Although pigment coating of paper is to improve the printability, coated paper is not completely free from printing defects. Actually there are a number printing defects that are observed only with the coated papers. Among the printing defects that are commonly observed for coated papers, print mottle during multi-color offset printing is one of the most concerned defects, and it appears not only on solid tone area but also half dot print area. There are four main causes of print mottle ranging from printing inks, dampening solution, paper, and printing press or its operation. These indicates that almost every factors associated with lithographic printing can cause print mottle. Among these variation of paper quality influences most significantly on print mottle problems in multicolor offset printing, and this indicates that paper is most often to be blamed for its product deficiency as far as print mottle problems are concerned. Furthermore, most of the print mottle problems associated with paper is observed when coated papers are printed. Uncoated papers rarely show mottling problems. This indicates that print mottle is the most serious quality problems of coated paper products. Overcoming the print mottle is becoming more difficult because the operating speeds of coating and printing machines are increasing, coating weights are decreasing, and the demands on high-quality printing are increasing. Print mottle in offset printing is caused by (a) nonuniform back trap of ink caused by a nonuniform rate of ink drying, referred as "back trap mottle, and (b) nonuniform absorption of the dampening solution. Furthermore, both forms of print mottle have some relationship to the structure of the coated layer. The surest way of eliminating ink mottling is to eliminate unevenness in the base paper. Coating solutions, often easier to put into practice, should, however, be considered. In this paper the principal factors influencing print mottle of coated papers will be discussed. Especially the importance of base paper roughness, binder migration, even consolidation of coating layers, control of the drying rate, types of binders, etc. will be described.
SCS method was applied to make the assessments of direct runoff according to land use changes in Jeju island. Land uses were obtained from 5 year-period remote sensing time series data from 1975 to 2000 which are provided by Water Management Information System (WAMIS). Hydrologic soil groups were categorized based on soil series of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), and permeable geologic structures such as Sumgol, Gotzawal and so on. The land uses of Jeju island are obviously characterized by urban-agricultural areas increases, and forest areas decrease. According to land use changes, curve number (CN) for Jeju island was consistently increased from 65.3 in 1975 to 69.6 in 2000. From 1975 to 2000, the amount of direct runoff and ratios increased due to CN changes. When the rainfall data in 1995 was applied to each year, the direct runoff amounts were $299.0{\sim}351.6\;mm$, and runoff ratios were $15.1{\sim}17.7%$. In the case of the application of the rainfall data in 2000, the direct runoff amounts were $136.9{\sim}161.5\;mm$, and runoff ratios were $9.7{\sim}11.5%$. Since direct runoff can be closely related to groundwater recharge and sustainable groundwater yield, the groundwater influence caused by land use changes or district exploitations should be considered for the reasonable water management and development in Jeju island.
Background: This study aimed to analyze the on heart rate, blood lactate concentration, packed cell volume (PCV) and hemoglobin (Hb) response after conducting exercise in endurance horses. Methods: A total of 20 healthy 3-9-years-old Jeju crossbreed mares ($5.95{\pm}2.24$ year) of age and $312.65{\pm}13.59kg$ of weight) currently participating the endurance competition were used. The field tests selected for the experiment was gallop (approximately 8.3 m/s) along the selected 2.5 km course (a natural forest trail, not artificial road; a closed loop course). The horses were divided into three groups according to their age; 3-4 years of age (G1, $3.29{\pm}0.49$ year), 6-7 years of age (G2, $6.42{\pm}0.53$), and 8-9 years of age (G3, $8.50{\pm}0.55$). The measurements times for the heart rate, blood lactate concentration, PCV, and Hb analysis were conducted before exercise (T0), shortly after exercise (T1), 15 min after exercise (T2), and 30 min after exercise (T3), respectively. Data was analyzed using an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) for repeated measures with times and groups. Results: The results of the comparison depending on the passage of rest time after exercise suggest that the heart rate and blood lactate concentration of three groups at T2 significantly decreased compared to T1 (p < 0.001). PCV of the G2 and G3 groups were significantly decreased at T2 compared to T1 (p < 0.01). Hb values at G2 (p < 0.01) and G3 (p < 0.001) groups were significantly decreased at T2 as compared to T1. However, heart rate, blood lactate concentration, PCV and Hb level at T1 showed no difference in the comparison of horses from different age groups with the exception of G3 group in terms of heart rate. Conclusion: The physiologic and hematological responses of horses during recovery time after 2,500 m exercise with gallop were no significant difference among the groups. These data are useful as a response evaluation method for training of endurance horses.

This study aims at presenting a plan to build an open space network system in the city of Daejeon, assuming that parks and the green space system as a broad concept are to make a network by connecting open spaces such as parks, green spaces, squares, pedestrian roads, historical spots, etc. In the case of old downtown in Daejeon, this study examined the possibility of applying an open space network in the city of Daejeon and categorize them according to the findings from examining the case area, which enables to make a plan for building an open space network system in Daejeon. As a result, public offices and business buildings as an active open space have public open spaces in front of buildings and these front public open spaces are connected to pedestrian roads(gray open space). Since these pedestrian roads are consequently connected to large parks and rivers(green or blue open space), this overall spatial sequence can form an open space system. In addition, parks and green spaces, which have been fundamental elements so far, exist in relatively small and scattered areas at the center of the city. Hence, more parks and green space are needed to improve a park and green space system. However, it is very difficult to create new parks and green spaces in downtown, especially in old downtown areas. Therefore making an open space network system which spreads out over the whole city will form a healthy open space network in the downtown area.
A similarity coefficient were analyzed by RFLP of fourteen species of entomopathogenic fungi, isolated from inhabiting pupa and adult insect at forest. Each rDNA ITS I and ITS II with primers of ITS 1 and ITS 4 was amplified by PCR. The amplified products were conserved to 500 bp were not demarcated between genus and species. Four Paeciliomyces tenuipes, two Beauveria bassiana and six Cordyceps militaris were treated by seven restriction enzymes and confirmed in species except JB3 by electrophoresis band. However, the band of C. scarabaeicola showed the identity with B. bassiana. The result of this experiment indicated that the teleomorph of C. scarabaeicola was the same as that of B. bassiana. CfoI and HpaII of seven restricted enzymes were easily discriminating in the genus between Paecilomyees and Cordyceps. Especially, CfoI was more effective to classify the genera of Paecilomyees, Cordyceps and Beauveria than other restriction enzymes. The band patterns of RFLP of P. tenuipes, C. militaris, C. scarabaeicola and B. bassiana were also analyzed by UPGMA program of NTSYS-pc and showed 100% significance. Thus, the similarity coefficient tended to be lower between genera by RFLP analysis, but was higher between species.
