This paper investigates wave propagation in functionally graded carbon nano-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) plates under the influence of temperature based on Reddy' plate model. The material properties of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) are size-dependent, and the volume fraction of CNTs varies only along the thickness direction of the plate for different CNTs reinforcement modes. In addition, the material properties of CNTs can vary for different temperature parameters. By solving the eigenvalue problem, analytical dispersion relations can be derived for CNTRC plates. The partial differential equations for the system are derived from Lagrange's principle and higher order shear deformation theory is used to obtain the wave equations for the CNTRC plate. Numerical analyses show that the wave propagation properties in the CNTRC plate are related to the volume fraction parameters of the CNTRC plate and the distribution pattern of the CNTs in the polymer matrix. The effects of different volume fractions of CNTs and the distribution pattern of carbon nanotubes along the cross section (UD-O-X plate) are discussed in detail.
An external gelation method in place of an internal gelation method applied to the fabrication process of an intermediated compound of Uranium Oxy-Carbide (UCO) kernel spheres for Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) fuel preparation is under development in Korea. For the preliminary experiments of the UCO kernel sphere preparation using an external gelation method, the carbon black dispersion experiments were carried out using a simulated broth solution. From the selection experiments of various kinds of carbon black through dispersion experiments in a viscous metal salt solution, Cabot G carbon black was selected owing to its dispersion stability, and the homogeneous dispersing state of carbon black particles in our system. For the effective dispersion of nano-size aggregated carbon black particles in a high viscous liquid, the carbon black particles in a metal salt solution were first de-aggregated with ultrasonic force. The mixed solution was then dispersed secondly by the use of the extremely high-speed agitation with a mechanical mixer of 6000 rpm after feeding the Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) in the solution. This results in the broth solution with good stability and homogeneity alongside no further changes in physical properties.

Colloid and surface chemistry have been focused on surface area and surface energy. Local surface properties such as surface density, interaction, molecular orientation and reactivity have been one of interesting subjects. Systems of such surface energy being important would be listed as association colloid, emulsion, particle dispersion, foam, and 2-D surface and film. Such nanoparticle systems would be applied to drug delivery systems and functional cosmetics with biocompatible and degradable materials, while nanoparticles having its size of several nm to micron, and wide surface area, have been accepted as a possible drug carrier because their preparation, characteristics and drug loading have been inves-tigated. The biocompatible carriers were also used for the solubilization of insoluble drugs, the enhancement of skin absorption, the block out of UV radiation, the chemical stabilization and controlled release. Nano/micro emulstion system is classified into nano/microsphere, nano/microcapsule, nano/microemulsion, polymeric micelle, liposome according to its prep-aration method and size. Specially, the preparation method and industrial applications have been introduced for polymeric micelles self-assembled in aqueous solution, nano/microapsules controlling the concentration and activity of high concen-tration and activity materials, and monolayer or multilayer liposomes carrying bioactive ingredients.
Pluronic as pharmaceutical excipients are listed in the US and British Pharmacopoeia. In particular, Pluronics exist as different compositions and display abundant phases as self-assembling into polymeric micelles with various morphologies depending on the aqueous solvent quality, the composition of structure, and hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB). Pluronics were also known as a P-gp modulator, which was exploited as a reversal molecule of multi-drug resistant (MDR) cancers. We selected a lamella forming Pluronic L92 which has high hydrophobicity and relatively long PEO block among L series of Pluronics. The dispersion of L92 showed great size particles and low stability. To increase the stability and to decrease the particle size, secondary Pluronics (F68, F88, F98, F127, P85, P105, and P123) with relatively long PEO chain were added into 0.1 wt% Pluronic L92 dispersion. The stability of binary systems was increased due to incorporated long PEO chain. Their particle sizes slightly decreased to over 200~400 nm and their solubilization capacity of binary systems didn't change except Pluronic L92/P123 mixtures. The L92/P123 systems showed ca. 100 nm sizes and lowest turbidity among the all systems. The solubilization capacity of 0.1 wt% L92/0.1 wt% P123 was slightly increased compared to 0.1 wt% L92 mono system and other binary systems. These nano-sized binary systems may have potential as alternative drug delivery systems with simple preparation method and overcome the drawbacks of mono systems such as low stability and loading capacity.

In aqueous phase, we directly prepared conducting and photoluminescent nano-structured particles by oxidation polymerization. Thiophene(PT) was initiated by $FeCl_{3}/H_{2}O_{2}$ (catalyst/oxidant) combination system. And, polydispersed core-shell poly(styrene/thiophene) and polyaniline(PANI)-coated multi core-shell polystyrene latex particles were successfully prepared by oxidative and radical polymerization. The resulting latex particles have fine improved luminescence and conductive efficiency and dispersion state due to the PT and PANI shell. Hyper functionalized nanoparticle would be expected to increase the processibility in various electrical and electro-optical fields.
Nanofood can be simply defined as natural polymer particles containing functional food materials in nanoscale that are synthesized by polymerization or emulisification process. They have very uniform diameters in the range of 1 to 100 nm and extensive surface areas due to the small particle size in spite of their non-porosity. Although the technique to produce nanofood has not Bong developing history, many works have been achieved in various fields. Nanofood has a lot of special advantages, such as functionality, diversity, applicability, etc. In case of the domestic food industries, however, the accumulation of related technique is insufficient against developed countries except used food materials. Also, it is difficult to acquire technical know-how from the developed countries that possess those technologies. We have been studied on preparing functional nanofood and developing new production processes since 1999. Last 5 years we have laid the foundation on the preparation of nanofood and now are focusing on developing new processes of nanofood and expending the field of its applications.

In this study, nanocrystalline nickel powders were cold compacted by a dynamic compaction method using a single-stage gas gun system. A bending test was conducted to measure the bonding strengths of the compacted regions and microstructures of the specimen were analyzed using a scanning electron microscopy. The specimen was separated into two parts by a horizontal crack after compaction. Density test shows that the powder compaction occurred only in the upper part of the specimen. Brittle fracture was occurred during the bending test of the compact sample. Dispersion of shock energy due to spalling highly affected the bonding status of the nanocrystalline nickel powder.
A chemical process involves polymerization within microspheres, whereas a physical process involves the dispersion of polymer in a nonsolvent. Nano-sized monodisperse microspheres are usually prepared by chemical processes such as water-based emulsions, seed suspension polymerization, nonaqueous dispersion polymerization, and precipitation polymerizations. Polymerization was performed in a four-necked, separate-type flask equipped with a stirrer, a condenser, a nitrogen inlet, and a rubber stopper for adding the initiator with a syringe. Nitrogen was bubbled through the mixture of reagents for 1 hr. before elevating the temperature. Functional silane (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) was used for the modification of silica nanoparticles and the self-assembled monolayers obtained were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), laser scattering system (LSS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), elemental analysis (EA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In addition, polymer microspheres were polymerized by radical polymerization of ${\gamma}$-mercaptopropyl modified silica nanoparticles (MPSN) and acrylamide monomer via precipitation polymerization; then, their characteristics were investigated. From the elemental analysis results, it can be concluded that the conversion rate of acrylamide monomer was 93% and that polyacrylamide grafted to MPSN nanospheres via the radical precipitation polymerization with AAm in ethanol solvent. The microspheres were successfully polymerized by the 'graft from' method.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have excellent electrical, chemical stability, mechanical and thermal properties. In this paper, networks of Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) materials were investigated as resistive gas sensors for ethanol ($C_2H_5OH$) detection. Sensor films were fabricated by air spray method for the multi-walled CNTs solution on glass substrates. Sensors were characterized by resistance measurements in the sensing system, in order to find the optimum detection properties for the ethanol gas molecular. The film that was sprayed with the MWCNT dispersion for 60 see, was 300 nm thick. And the electric resistivity is $2{\times}10^{-2}\;{\Omega\cdot}cm$. Also, the sensitivity and the linearity of MWVNT sensor for ethanol gas are 0.389 %/sec and 17.541 %/FS, respectively. The MWCNT film was excellent in the response for the ethanol gas molecules and its reaction speed was very fast, which could be using as ethanol gas sensor. The conductance of the fabricated sensors decreases when the sensors are exposed to ethanol gas.
