  • We have introduced the Pickering emulsion systems to generate novel confining geometries for the selforganization of monodisperse polymer microspheres using nanoparticle-stabilized emulsion droplets encapsulating the building block particles. Then, through the slow evaporation of emulsion phases by heating, these microspheres were packed into regular polyhedral colloidal clusters covered with nanoparticle-stabilizers made of silica. Furthermore, polymer composite colloidal clusters were burnt out leaving nonspherical hollow micro-particles, in which the configurations of the cluster structure were preserved during calcination. The selfassembled porous architectures in this study will be potentially useful in various applications such as novel building block particles or supporting materials for catalysis or gas adsorption.

  • Recent cleaning technologies of mask in extremely ultraviolet semiconductor processes were reviewed, focused on newly developed issues such as particle size determination or hydrocarbon and tin contaminations. In detail, critical particle size was defined and proposed for mask cleaning where nanosized particles and its various shapes would result in surface atomic ratio increase vigorously. A new cleaning model also was proposed with amphoteric behavior of electrolytically ionized water which had already shown excellent particle removing efficiency. Having its non-equilibrium and amphoteric properties, electrolyzed ion water seemed to oxidize contaminant surface selectively in nano-scale and then to lift up oxidized ones from mask surface very effectively. This assumption should be further investigated in future in junction with hydrogen bonding and cluster of water molecules.

  • The dynamics of nano particles in LC medium under an external electric field is of theoretical and technological interest. In this work, the dynamical characteristics of fullerene $(C_{60})$ particles in liquid crystal (LC) medium under dc electric field have been investigated. This effect was studied for homogeneously aligned nematic LC cells driven by in-plane field. The $C_{60}$ was found to be aggregated in a form of cluster inside the LC medium. Hence polystytene was used to protect the aggregation of $C_{60}$ in LC medium. When the electric field was applied, the fullerenes start to move in direction of applied electric field. The density of $C_{60}$'s particles at the electrodes increase with increase in the value of applied electric field. The dynamical motions of fullerene $(C_{60})$ particles in liquid crystal (LC) suggest that fullerene can be designed for electrophoretic displays (i.e., electronic ink).

  • In this study, CuO was introduced on MWCNTs dispersed with Au nanoparticles to improve the glucose sensing capability of electrochemical biosensors. Nano-cluster shaped CuO was synthesized due to the presence of Au nanoparticle, which affects glucose sensing performance. The biosensor featuring CuO/Au@MWCNTs nanocomposite as an electrode material when 0.1 mole of CuO was synthesized showed the highest sensitivity of $504.1{\mu}A\;mM^{-1}cm^{-2}$, which is 4 times better than that of MWCNTs based biosensors. In addition, it shows a wider linear range from 0 to 10 mM and lower limit of detection (LOD) of 0.008 mM. These results demonstrate that CuO/Au@MWCNTs nanocomposite sensors are superior to other CuO based biosensors which are attributed that the nano-cluster shaped CuO is favorable for the electrochemical reaction with glucose molecules.

  • Titanium carbides are widely used for cutting tools and grinding wheels, because of their superior physical properties such as high melting temperature, high hardness, high wear resistance, good thermal conductivity and excellent thermal shock resistance. The common synthesizing method for the titanium carbide powders is carbo-thermal reduction from the mixtures of titanium oxide($TiO_2$) and carbon black. The purpose of the present research is to fabricate nano TiC powders using titanium salt and titanium hydride by the mechanochemical process(MCP). The initial elements used in this experiment are liquid $TiCl_4$(99.9%), $TiH_2$(99.9%) and active carbon(<$32{\mu}m$, 99.9%). Mg powders were added to the $TiCl_4$ solution in order to induce the reaction with Cl-. The weight ratios of the carbon and Mg powders were theoretically calculated. The TiC and $MgCl_2$ powders were milled in the planetary milling jar for 10 hours. The 40 nm TiC powders were fabricated by wet milling for 4 hours from the $TiCl_4$+C+Mg solution, and 300 nm TiC particles were obtained by using titanium hydride.

  • In the collisionally-activated dissociation of the proton-bound cluster ions of DNA base guanine (G) and cytosine (C), $G{\bullet}{\bullet}H^+{\bullet}{\bullet}C$, the abundance of [$CH^+$] ions was found to be higher than that of [$GH^+$] despite the fact that G has a higher proton affinity than C. This unexpected observation seems to demonstrate another example that the simple kinetic method scheme does not work. We suggest that a kinetic factor or detailed dynamics governing the proton transfer and dissociation should be carefully considered in the applications of the kinetic method to the proton affinity measurements.

  • Streptomyces venezuelae YJ028, bearing a deletion of the entire biosynthetic gene cluster encoding the pikromycin polyketide synthases and desosamine biosynthetic enzymes, was used as a bioconversion system for combinatorial biosynthesis of glycosylated derivatives of tylosin. Two engineered deoxysugar biosynthetic pathways for the biosynthesis of TDP-3-O-demethyl-D-chalcose or TDP-L-rhamnose in conjunction with the glycosyltransferaseauxiliary protein pair DesVII/DesVIII were expressed in a S. venezuelae YJ028 mutant strain. Supplementation of each mutant strain capable of producing TDP-3-O-demethyl-D-chalcose or TDP-L-rhamnose with tylosin aglycone tylactone resulted in the production of the 3-O-demethyl-D-chalcose, D-quinovose, or L-rhamnose-glycosylated tylactone.

  • Transparent BNO thin films were grown on Al-doped ZnO (AZO)/Ag/AZO/polyethersulfon (PES) (abbreviated as AAAP) transparent electrodes at a low temperature by the NCD technique. The BNO films grown on the crystallized AZO/Ag/AZO (AAA) electrodes exhibit an amorphous phase with a root mean square (rms) roughness of approximately 2 nm in the range of deposition temperature. The capacitors (Pt/BNO/AAAP) with BNO films grown at $100^{\circ}C$ show a dielectric constant of 24 and dissipation factor of 8% at 100 kHz, a leakage current density of about $8{\times}10^{-6}A/cm^2$ at an applied voltage of 1.0V. The optical transmittances of the BNO/AAAP exhibited above 80% at wavelength of 550nm at all of deposition temperature. The mechanical stability of the BNO/AAA as well as AAA electrode with the PES substrates through the bending was ensured for flexible electronic device applications. The transparent BNO capacitors grown on AAAP are powerful candidate for integration with the transparent solar cells.
