A New Anchor Shot Detection System for News Video Indexing

  • In this paper, we propose a novel anchor shot detection system, named to MASD (Multi-phase Anchor Shot Detection), which is a core step of the preprocessing process for the news video analysis. The proposed system is composed of four modules and operates sequentially: 1) skin color detection module for reducing the candidate face regions; 2) face detection module for finding the key-frames with a facial data; 3) vector representation module for the key-frame images using a non-negative matrix factorization; 4) one class SVM module for determining the anchor shots using a support vector data description. Besides the qualitative analysis, our experiments validate that the proposed system shows not only the comparable accuracy to the recently developed methods, but also more faster detection rate than those of others.

  • 전파신호의 추적은 국방을 비롯한 다양한 분야에서 여러 가지 기술 발전을 이루고 있다. 특히 시간의 경과에 따라 변경되는 PRI 및 주파수를 갖는 전파에 대해서는 Adaptable한 추적 능력을 필요로 한다. 본 논문에서는 다양하게 변하는 PRI 및 주파수 변경 신호들에 대해 지능적으로 적응해 가면서 추적할 수 있는 추적 방식을 제안하고 이를 실험하였다. 제안된 방식은 신경회로망의 오차 역전과 알고리즘을 이용한 방법으로, 모의 전파 신호를 시간 구간으로 나누어 학습하였고 이에 대한 성능 테스트를 한 결과 제안된 방법이 전파 신호를 효율적으로 추적할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

A Novel Driving Method for Cost Competitive a-Si TFT-LCD

  • We have developed a novel driving method, Six times Rate Driving(SRD) for the purpose of making cost competitive TFT-LCD. By applying SRD method to an a-Si TFT-LCD, the driving rate was increased six times as it was named but the number of data lines and so its D-Ics were reduced to one sixth of the conventional one which resulted in the cost saving of that much. We also newly designed the gate driver in order to avoid any expansion of the bezel width caused by applying SRD. Our newly developed driving technology, SRD was successfully applied to 7.0-inch WSVGA (1024 ${\times}$ 600) TFT-LCD which can be driven with only one data D-IC and here introduced.

  • 86아시안 게임에 사용되었던 종합정보망(INS) system은 Ethernet-based LAN을 통하여 6대의 superminicomputer를 연결하여 분산 처리를 하였다. 이를 위해 UNIX OS상에서 UTP라는 command/file server를 개발하여 분산시스템 간에 data consistency와 user transparency를 가능하게 하였다. 게임 기간 동안 UTP는 평균적으노 780byte/sec의 전송률을 보였다.

  • We consider the Fuzzy clustering which is devised for partitioning a set of objects into a certain number of groups by assigning the membership probabilities to each object. The researches carried out in this field before show that the Fuzzy clustering concept is involved so much that for a certain set of data, the main purpose of the clustering cannot be attained as desired. Thus we Propose a new objective function, named as Fuzzy-Entroppy Function in order to satisfy the main motivation of the clustering which is classifying the data clearly. Also we suggest Mean Field Annealing Algorithm as an optimization algorithm rather than the ISODATA used traditionally in this field since the objective function is changed. We show the Mean Field Annealing Algorithm works pretty well not only for the new objective function but also for the classical Fuzzy objective function by indicating that the local minimum problem resulted from the ISODATA can be improved.

노인소비자문제에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Consumer Problems of the Elderly)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate elderly consumer problems raised from the process of satisfing one's own consumer need(consumer expenditure problem) and purchasing goods and services in the market(purchase poblem). A survey was conducted and the data from 256 elderly persons aged 60 or more was collected. To analyze the data, following statistical methods were used: ANOVA, t-test, Multiple Regression Analysis. Major findings are as follows. 1) The Average of consumer expenditure problem is below the mid-point. 2) The levels of consumer expenditure and purchase problems differ due to consumer role performance, family solidarity, spause, educational level, discretionary expenditure, income stability and source of income 3) family solidarity, educational level and discretionary expenditure have strong independent influecces on consumer problems both in consumer expenditure and purchase in order named.

Enhanced Markov-Difference Based Power Consumption Prediction for Smart Grids

  • Power prediction is critical to improve power efficiency in Smart Grids. Markov chain provides a useful tool for power prediction. With careful investigation of practical power datasets, we find an interesting phenomenon that the stochastic property of practical power datasets does not follow the Markov features. This mismatch affects the prediction accuracy if directly using Markov prediction methods. In this paper, we innovatively propose a spatial transform based data processing to alleviate this inconsistency. Furthermore, we propose an enhanced power prediction method, named by Spatial Mapping Markov-Difference (SMMD), to guarantee the prediction accuracy. In particular, SMMD adopts a second prediction adjustment based on the differential data to reduce the stochastic error. Experimental results validate that the proposed SMMD achieves an improvement in terms of the prediction accuracy with respect to state-of-the-art solutions.

  • In this paper, we introduce the analog memory fabricated in a 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ single poly standard CMOS process. We measured the programming characteristics of the analog memory cell such as linearity, reliability etc. Finally, we found that the characteristics of the programming of the cell depend on the magnitude and the width of the programming pulse, and that the accuracy of the programming within 10mV is feasible under the optimal condition. In order to standardize the characteristics of the cell, we have investigated numbers of cells. Thus we have used a program named Labview and a data acquisition board to accumulate the data related to the programming characteristics automatically.

  • KEPCO, a Korean utility, has been operating a new lightning detection network since 2006. The lightning data detected by the new system named as Kepco Lightning Detection & information Network(KLDNet) is presented, and compared with ten-years-old-statistics accumulated by LPATS in order to look over the detection abilities.
