  • Unlike other common forms of speech disorder, such as phonological disorder or dysphonia, stuttering has not been studied within the context of music therapy. Most cases of stuttering display no difficulty in singing, and fluency within the musical structure does not translate to fluency in speech. Hence, musical approach has been generally considered to be ineffective to the treatment of stuttering. However, the fundamentals of music therapy assume its extensive application in treating variety of speech disorders, including the case of stuttering. Presented in this paper are the case studies designed to validate the efficacy of music therapy as a remedy for stuttering. This study enrolled 6 children with stuttering and conducted 20 individual sessions over a period of 10 weeks. The sessions focused on the Melodic Intonation Therapy, Reinforcement of speech rhythm, song writing and singing. Musical elements were structured to enhance the verbal expression and rhythmic senses, as well as to facilitate the initiation of verbal communication. The result is as follows. First, it was noticed that the disfluency had been decreased in before and after of the music therapy in every child although the result was somewhat different depending the child. The overall result of the investigation shows the significant difference statistically. And categorically speaking, the significant difference was checked in the frequency of the stuttering. In the steps of the session, the increase and decrease was happened repeatedly, and then after it was decreased little by little. Secondly, the Communication Attitude was decreased in before and after of the music therapy, and also there was significant difference statistically. although the avoidance behavior was decreased in before and after of the music therapy, the increase and the decrease was repeated irregularly in the steps of session. All the results described above shows that music therapy gives positive effect to decrease in disfluency of stuttering child and also to develop the Communication Attitude. And new possibility and effectiveness can be proposed in the musical approach to the stuttering.

  • Electric utilities has been considered the necessity to introduce AM(asset management) of electric power facilities in order to reduce maintenance cost of existing facilities and to maximize profit. In order to make decisions in terms of repairs and replacements for power transformers, not only measuring by counting parts and labor costs, but comprehensive comparison including reliability and cost is needed. Therefore, this study is modeling input cost for power transformer during its entire life and also the life cycle cost (LCC) technique is applied. In particular, this paper presents an application of heuristic harmony search(HS) optimization algorithm to the convergence and the validity of economic life assessment of power transformer from LCC technique. This recently developed HS algorithm is conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. It uses a stochastic random search instead of a gradient search so that derivative information is unnecessary. The effectiveness of the proposed identification method has been demonstrated through an economic life assessment simulation of power transformer using HS optimization algorithm.

  • This paper presents an application of heuristic harmony search (HS) optimization algorithm for the identification of linear continuous time-delay system from step response. Identification model is first-order plus dead time (FOPDT), which describes a linear monotonic process quite well in most chemical processes and HAVC process and is often sufficient for PID controller tuning. This recently developed HS algorithm is conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. It uses a stochastic random search instead of a gradient search so that derivative information is unnecessary. The effectiveness of the identification method has been demonstrated through a number of simulation examples.

  • The purpose of this study is to define the fundamentals of one symbolic concept, so calles vestment-sign, based on the logical relationship of sign system about the trichotomy by charles S. Peice's sign concept for the communication system of meaning in the non-linguistic image domain. To prove the argument of vestment-sign, I selected 3 type of vestment language by styliste, Elsa Schiaparel-li. The third image vestmental chosen here, titled“Larme-Illusion(1938)”,printed by Salvad-or Dali will produce one symbolic proposition as a logical result which is generated and developed through the interpretation of other images. First of all the text, which is manifested by Elsa Schiaparelli's first image vestmental, tit-led“Notation Musical(1937)”and is symbolized as one category in the representation of the form, is regarded symbolic and metaphorical from a standpoint that the title and the meaning is connected to the form. The second image vestment, titled“Ruches Noirs(1938)”represents externally splendid feminity man-ifested by the symbolic and metaphorical expression. And the purity of sensitivity aiming to humanity in the detail of the poetic feeling of naturalism makes us imagine the battle fild of furious sensitivity. Like as the result of the battle, the third image stimulated our eyesight with the“absence”of dressing function. The proposition of the text,《Death》which the third image delivers, constructs sign system to bring up a meaning with the disappearance of physical“signifier”. This establishment of the symbolic concept presents the etymological authority of symbol generation called“Design”.

  • Objective: This paper is to analyze the impact of musical training to the fast ${\alpha}$ wave activation of the EEG. Background: EEG is neurological research method that can observe the brain function in real time. EEG can be used to determine the nervousness and relaxedness of a person who receives stimuli in a structured environment. Therefore, it is possible to interpret the functional state of human brain by the analysis of EEG. Method: The brain activities of two groups of university students in the point of RFA(Relative Fast Alpha) caused by different music are analyzed in this paper. One is the group of music majors and the other is the group of non-majors. Results: Music major and non-major groups show meaningful differences in RFA during exposed to classic and metal music. Conclusion: Learning experience on music affects RFA increment of music majors. Application: The result of this study will be used as basic data to evaluate the learning effects of students who want to study music.

  • The digitization of music has seen a considerable increase in audience size from a few localized listeners to a wider range of global listeners. At the same time, the digitization brings the challenge of smoothly retrieving music from large databases. To deal with this challenge, many systems which support the smooth retrieval of musical data have been developed. At the computational level, a query music piece is compared with the rest of the music pieces in the database. These systems, music information retrieval (MIR systems), work for various applications such as general music retrieval, plagiarism detection, music recommendation, and musicology. This paper mainly addresses two parts of the MIR research area. First, it presents a general overview of MIR, which will examine the history of MIR, the functionality of MIR, application areas of MIR, and the components of MIR. Second, we will investigate music similarity measurement methods, where we provide a comparative analysis of state of the art methods. The scope of this paper focuses on comparative analysis of the accuracy and efficiency of a few key MIR systems. These analyses help in understanding the current and future challenges associated with the field of MIR systems and music similarity measures.

  • The paper considers one of the new applications of computer methods in music composition, using smart nanobeams-an integration of advanced computational techniques with new, specially designed materials for enhanced performance capabilities in music composition. The research applies some peculiar properties of smart nanobeams, embedded with piezoelectric materials that modulate and control sound vibrations in real-time. The study is conducted to determine the effects of changes in the length, thickness of nanobeams and the applied voltage on acoustical properties and the tone quality of musical instruments with the help of numerical simulations and optimization algorithms. By means of piezo-elasticity theory, different governing equations of nanobeam systems can be derived, which are solved by the numerical method to predict the dynamic behavior of the system under different conditions. Results show that manipulation of the parameters allows great control over pitch, timbre, and resonance of the instrument; such a system offers new ways in which composers and performers can create music. This research also validates the computational model against available theoretical data, proving the accuracy and possible applications of the former. The work thus marks a large step towards the intersection of music composition with smart material technology, and, when further developed, it would mean that smart nanobeams could revolutionize the process for composing and performing music on these instruments.
