Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability of questionnaire according to item arrangement on patient satisfaction questionnaire. Methods : We developed the two types of questionnaire with different item arrangement. In the first type (A), questions were arranged according to medical service dimensions. Questions in the second type (B) were arranged according to medical process. Both questionnaires were composed of six dimensions: physical environments, process, competence, courtesy, information giving, understanding patients. Measurements were performed on a 5-score Likert scale. In an outpatients and inpatient survey, total 777 patients answered the type A (outpatients: 257, inpatients: 128) or Type B (outpatients: 257, inpatients: 135). In order to compare the internal consistency of two types. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ were calculated. Multiple regression analysis was also performed to know which type of questionnaire explain more of the overall satisfaction. Results : In outpatient survey, type A questionnaire showed higher internal consistency than B except physical environments dimension. Also in inpatient survey, type A had higer internal consistency than B in four dimensions(process, competence, courtesy, understanding patients). In the results of multiple regression analysis, type A questionnaire ($R^2$=0.53) explained more of the variation in overall satisfaction then B questionnaire ($R^2$=0.43) in outpatient survey. In inpatient survey, type B questionnaire ($R^2$=0.40) explained, more of the variation in overall satisfaction than type A questionnaire ($R^2$=0.33).But the difference of R was not significant in inpatient survey. Conclusion : The results of this study support that type A questionnaire has higer reliability in assessment of consumer satisfaction than type B.

This study was undertaken in order to examine the effect of hardiness on stress-causing factors, defined in this study as burnout in nursing. The subjects were 248 nurses working in three general hospitals in Taejon. The instruments used for this study were a survey of general characteristics, modified Health-Related Hardiness Scale(HRHS) (25 items), job stress scale (63 items), and burnout scale (20 items). Analysis of data was done through the mean, percentage, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression done with a SAS program. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The average item score for the job stress was high at 4.44. In the subcategories, the highest degree of stress was night duty(5.11), and work overload(4.70), responsibility for extra affairs(4.70), conflict in nurse-doctor relationships(4.69), and low reward(4.63) in that order. 2) In the stepwise multiple regression analysis, hardiness(11.55%) was a significant determinant of burnout along with job stress(17.24%) and job duration(12.94%). The results of this study show that hardiness has an effect on psychological distress caused by stress.
Purpose: To develop a Critical Thinking Skill Test for Nursing Students. Methods: The construct concepts were drawn from a literature review and in-depth interviews with hospital nurses and surveys were conducted among students (n=607) from nursing colleges. The data were collected from September 13 to November 23, 2012 and analyzed using the SAS program, 9.2 version. The KR 20 coefficient for reliability, difficulty index, discrimination index, item-total correlation and known group technique for validity were performed. Results: Four domains and 27 skills were identified and 35 multiple choice items were developed. Thirty multiple choice items which had scores higher than .80 on the content validity index were selected for the pre test. From the analysis of the pre test data, a modified 30 items were selected for the main test. In the main test, the KR 20 coefficient was .70 and Corrected Item-Total Correlations range was .11-.38. There was a statistically significant difference between two academic systems (p=.001). Conclusion: The developed instrument is the first critical thinking skill test reflecting nursing perspectives in hospital settings and is expected to be utilized as a tool which contributes to improvement of the critical thinking ability of nursing students.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the degrees of depression and activities of daily living (ADLs), and to identify factors that predict depression in elderly patients. Methods: The sample was149 patients (80% female; mean age 79.1) from three geriatric hospitals located in small cities and who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected by staff nurses involved in direct patient care from October to September 2009. The level of depression was measured on a daily basis for seven days using a 13-item scale. Patients' ADLs was measured using a modified 10-item Bathel ADLs scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: Mean depression score was $10.05{\pm}4.77$ out of 26 points and about 27% was assessed as depressed with more than 13 points. Multiple regression analysis showed that low educational level, absence of spouse and fewer family visits predict depression. In addition, low ADLs and sleep disturbance predict depression. Conclusion: Nursing care providers need to be concerned about ADLs of older patients and should develop nursing activity programs to increase their in-hospital physical activities. It is also important care for older patients' sleep and encourages family visits to decrease their depression.
This study was to develop an instrument for multidimensional measurement of Korean scaling fear (KSF)-1.0 and analyze related factors. A sample of 720 subjects(scaling patients and community people) was studied in Daegu city from November in 2008 to March in 2009. Authors first conceptualized the KSF, item generation, item reduction, and questionnaire formatting were performed in the stage of the development. Item descriptive, missing%, item internal consistency, and item discriminant validity were analyzed in the item-level, also descriptive, floor and ceiling effect were analyzed in the scale-level. Cronbach's alpha, test-retest, inter-dimension correlations, and factor analysis were performed to evaluate the validity and reliability in the new instrument. Confirmative factor analysis was did to evaluate the fit of model. The results for item-level and scale-level were acceptable except item discriminant validity. The reliability for 0.92~0.96 of corelation coefficient range(Cronbach's alpha 0.96~0.98) was high in the test-retest, and there was no significant difference in paired t-test. Item internal consistency(range of pearson corelation coefficient 0.39~0.95) was also high. The result of explanatory factor analysis was the same as the intended dimension structure, also confirmatory factor analysis results revealed that the dimensional structure model were fined well in the evaluation of model fit($x^2$= 1245.66, df=146, p=0.0000; GFI=0.85; AGFI=0.80; RMSEA=0.10). Factors related to KSF by multiple regression were gender($\beta$=0.28, p=0.0004) and teeth brush method($\beta$=-0.15, p=0.0053) in scaling patients, also gender($\beta$=0.25, p=0.0002), educational level($\beta$=0.14, p=0.0155), teeth brush method($\beta$=-0.09, p=0.0229) and time of daily work out($\beta$=-0.10, p=0.0055) were significantly associated with KSF in no scaling group. In conclusion, The results of this study reveal that the new developed measurement scale was reliable and val id instrument for measuring the KSF in dental hygiene patients and community people. We recommend that further research should develop more the instrument for the Korean scaling fear.

The present study was conducted to develop a Multi-dimensional Body Image Scale for Malaysian female adolescents. Data were collected among 328 female adolescents from a secondary school in Kuantan district, state of Pahang, Malaysia by using a self-administered questionnaire and anthropometric measurements. The self-administered questionnaire comprised multiple measures of body image, Eating Attitude Test (EAT-26; Gamer & Garfinkel, 1979) and Rosenberg Self-esteem Inventory (Rosenberg, 1965). The 152 items from selected multiple measures of body image were examined through factor analysis and for internal consistency. Correlations between Multi-dimensional Body Image Scale and body mass index (BMI), risk of eating disorders and self-esteem were assessed for construct validity. A seven factor model of a 62-item Multi-dimensional Body Image Scale for Malaysian female adolescents with construct validity and good internal consistency was developed. The scale encompasses 1) preoccupation with thinness and dieting behavior, 2) appearance and body satisfaction, 3) body importance, 4) muscle increasing behavior, 5) extreme dieting behavior, 6) appearance importance, and 7) perception of size and shape dimensions. Besides, a multidimensional body image composite score was proposed to screen negative body image risk in female adolescents. The result found body image was correlated with BMI, risk of eating disorders and self-esteem in female adolescents. In short, the present study supports a multi-dimensional concept for body image and provides a new insight into its multi-dimensionality in Malaysian female adolescents with preliminary validity and reliability of the scale. The Multi-dimensional Body Image Scale can be used to identify female adolescents who are potentially at risk of developing body image disturbance through future intervention programs.
Objective : The low back pain was the main reason of receiving acupuncture treatment. Despite its widespread prevalence, objective data assessing the pain and the results of various forms of treatment were difficult to find in korea. In order to compare the value of different types of treatment, it was necessary to use standard and meaningful forms of assessment. Methods : Pain and functional disability scales for low back pain were reviewed for contents, measurement properties and current methodological issues. Results and Conclusions : 1. The SF-36 Bodily Pain Scale and the Graded Chronic Pain Scale were commonly used for the standard pain scale. 2. The Oswestry Disability Questionnaire and the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire were commonly used for the standard function scale. 3. When evaluated, there was no definite answer to the results of the treatment. In the literature, the responsiveness of the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire ranged from 2 to 8 points but clinically, the ranges should be minimally changed from 2 to 3 points. 4. In the future, scale for low back pain should be standardized in multiple dimension so that the computerized adaptive testing by Item Response Theory could be widely used.
The purpose of this study was to develop a family functioning scale that is suitable for Korean families. The data for this study were obtained from a survey on a sample of 350 mothers of school-age children, who were living in Seoul, Kyunggi-do, and other cities of Korea. The major findings ate as follows; 1) Through the item discrimination test, 63 of the 77 items were found to be significant, thus deemed acceptable. The level of discrimination indices of the 63 items ranged from .38 to .84. 2) A factor analysis was conducted on the 63 items. Six different factors (Emotional Support, Family Intimacy, Respect for Autonomy, Communication, Family Rules, Time Spent Together) emerged for 37 items. The six factors accounted for 56.51% of total variance. 3) A multiple regression analysis was conducted to reduce the number of items, and the final 36 items were selected for the Family Functioning Scale. 4) The reliability measured by the internal consistency of the 36 items was high (Cronbach's a =.93). 5) The Family Functioning Scale was found to have a significant correlation with FACESIII(r=.80) as well as with FAD(r=.78).
The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a Children's Play Disposition Scale(CPDS) which could be used to evaluate children's play patterns and preferences. The participants of this study were parents of 437 5-7-year-old children (age range from 51months to 106months). Preliminary items were developed through a review of relevant research, multiple intelligence theory and scales, confirmation of item adequacy and content validity. After the content validity was confirmed by experts, these items were edited down to a final list of 27 items representing 6 factors identified by exploratory factor analysis. The 6 factors of the scale consists of initiative, linguistic activity, logical-mathematical activity, art and craft, physical activity, and sensitivity respectively. Concurrent validity was established by using correlations between each factor of the CPDS and sub-factors and the total scores of Multiple Intelligence Checklist for preschoolers (Multiple Intelligence Institute Co., Ltd, 2008) and Multiple Intelligence Checklist for elementary schoolers (Multiple Intelligence Institute Co., Ltd, 2007). In addition, the reliability of each factor, as measured by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, ranged from .53 to .79. The CPDS provides the developmental and educational information for strengthening children's developmental forte and for supporting children's developmental weakness. This scale can be used on developing children's play contents and guiding play methods in the future.
