  • This paper introduces an efficient iterative decoding method for high-dimensional block turbo codes. To improve the decoding performance, we modified the soft decision Viterbi decoding algorithm, which is a trellis-based method. The iteration number can be significantly reduced in the soft output decoding process by applying multiple usage of extrinsic reliability information from all available axes and appropriately normalizing them. Our simulation results reveal that the proposed decoding process needs only about 30% of the iterations required to obtain the same performance with the conventional method at a bit error rate range of $10^{-5}\;to\;10^{-6}$.

  • This paper deals with a discrete simulation optimization method for designing a complex probabilistic discrete event simulation. The developed algorithm uses the configuration algorithm that can change decision variables and the stopping algorithm that can end simulation in order to satisfy the given objective value during single run. It tries to estimate an auto-regressive model for evaluating correctly the objective function obtained by a small amount of output data. We apply the proposed algorithm to M/M/s model, (s, S) inventory model, and known-function problem. The proposed algorithm can't always guarantee the optimal solution but the method gives an approximate feasible solution in a relatively short time period. We, therefore, show the proposed algorithm can be used as an initial feasible solution of existing optimization methods that need multiple simulation run to search an optimal solution.

  • A binary decision model which is used to denoising has demerits to measure the precise ratio of signal to noise because of only a binary classification. To supplement these demerits, complex statistical model and undecimated wavelet transform are generally exploited. In this paper, we propose a noise reduction method using a multi-level decision model for measuring the ratio of noise in noisy image. The propose method achieves good denoising performance with orthogonal wavelet transform because the ratio of signal to noise can be calculated to multi-valued form. In simulation results, the proposed denoising method outperforms 0.1dB in the PSNR sense than the state of art denoising algorithms using orthogonal wavelet transform.

  • A differencing multiuser detection (MUD) method is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) direct sequence (DS) ultra-wideband (UWB) system to cope with the multiple access interference (MAI) and the computational efficiency in Nakagami fading channel. The method, which combines a multiuser-interference-cancellation-based decision feedback equalizer using error feedback filter (MIC DFE-EFF), a coefficient optimization algorithm (COA) and a differencing algorithm (DA), is termed as MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA for short. In the paper, the proposed MUD method is illuminated from the rudimental MIC DFE-EFF to the advanced MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA step by step. Firstly, the MIC DFE-EFF system performance is analyzed by minimum mean square error criterion. Secondly, the COA is investigated for optimization of each filter coefficient. Finally, the DA is introduced to reduce the computational complexity while sacrificing little performance. Simulations show a significant performance gain can be achieved by using the MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA detector. The proposed MIC DFE-EFF (COA) with DA improves both bit error rate performance and computational efficiency relative to DFE, DFE-EFF, parallel interference cancellation (PIC), MIC DFE-EFF and MIC DFE-EFF with DA, though it sacrifices little system performance, compared with MIC DFE-EFF (COA) without DA.

  • The aim of the present study is to research how the main factors for the export of SMEs affect SME's Export possibility in structural method. 62 SMEs in Busan Region were participated in this study. For the empirical analysis, a multiple regression analysis and a path analysis were used with Spss18 and Amos 5v to figure out the relationship between the main factors and SME's Export possibility(SEP). The main factors as variances are "Manpower Needs(MN)", "Technology Innovation Needs(TIN)", "Education Needs for Export(ENE)" and "Intention of Decision-Maker(IDM)". The result indicated that ENE and TIN with IDM could structurally affect SEP through path analysis and implies that the main factors have to be considered with the intention of decision-maker as CEO for the successful export of SMEs.

  • The key competition factor of manufacturing industries has progressively changed from cost to quality and time. Recently, the manufacturing environments more rapidly change than before. So, many companies want to introduce a advanced manufacturing system like CIMS to meet various user's needs and short delivery. But there is a considerable gap between the decision to invest and the achievement of promised benefits. Managers, generally, cannot afford CIM invesment unless they can determine beforehand that CIM will work in thier company and that will provide a coherent strategy and satisfactory return on investment In many cases, it is impossible to justify CIM investment by only economical analysis. Decision making problems like CIM investment are of a multiple objective nature. So, decision making process and multiattribute utility function are very useful methods to evaluate CIM justification In this paper, we described the key functions of CIM justification evaluation using IDEF methodology and developed the applicattion procedure of DMP and MUF method for CIM justification.

  • In this paper, we propose a modular neural network based classification method for handwritten numerals utilizing rotated and translated images of an input image. The whole numeral pattern space is divided into smaller spaces which overlap each other and form multiple clusters. On these multiple clusters, multiple multilayer perceptrons (MLP) neural networks, specialized in those clusters, are constructed. Thus, each MLP acts as an expert network on the corresponding cluster. An MLP is also used as a gating network functioning as a mediator among the multiple MLPs. In the learning phase, an input numeral image is dithered by tow geometric operations of translation and rotation so that new numeral images similar to original one are generated. In the recognition phase, we utilize not only input numeral image, but also nearly generated images through the rotation and the translation of the original image. Thus, multiple output values for those generated images were combined to make class decision by various combination methods. The experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed method.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify characteristics of patients who were recipients of decision-making DNR, to describe the situations of DNR, and to analyze the APACHE III and MOF scores. Method: Data collection was conducted through reviews of medical records of 51 patients and through interviews with families of patients who were decision-makers for DNR at C university K Hospital located in Seoul from April to September 2002. Results: The men's APACHE III and MOF scores were higher than the women's and the non cancer patients were higher than cancer patients. Some 80.4% of DNR orders was by communication, while 11.8% of consents were written. Each of APACHE III and MOF scores of patients in the intensive care unit was higher than the patients in general ward at both points of admission and decision-making of DNR. APACHE III and MOF scores positively correlated statistically with each other. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that APACHE III and MOF scores be useful for decision-making of DNR as a tool measuring severity.

  • In this paper, a soft-decision method for initial PN code acquisition in pilot-channel aided Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) systems is proposed in order to improve the acquisition performance. We apply this technique to the conventional hybrid search algorithm and analyze it in terms of mean code acquisition time. For the analysis, we present mathematical model of proposed algorithm and also perform the simulation under IMT-2000 channel models. Numerical results show that our proposed scheme outperforms the conventional one by 0.2 - 0.4 sec with respect to the mean code acquisition time because the soft decision technique can mitigate the possible decline in search performance caused by the use of a hard-decision technique.
