  • This paper presents some advanced and supplemental methods to enhance the accuracy in case of calculating geometric divergence attenuation, attenuation by multiple screening structures, ground attenuation at unflat surfaces of sound during propagation outdoors by the methods specified in ISO 9613-2. Moreover, a calculation method for considering short-term wind effect, specified in ASJ Model-1998, is also introduced. To verify the accuracy of adopted methods, we have carried out highway traffic noise prediction and measurement at the twelve locations appearing representative road shapes and structures, such as flat, retained cut, elevated, barrier-constructed roads. From the results, we have confirmed the predicted results show good correspondence with the measured at direct, diffracted and reflected sound fields within 30m from the center of near side lane.

  • Objective: This study was to assess liver involvement in multiple myeloma with the aid of liver function tests. Materials and Methods: A hospital based retrospective study was undertaken using data retrieved of multiple myeloma from the register maintained in the Department of Biochemistry of the Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal between $1^{st}$ January, 2007 and $28^{th}$ February, 2012. We collected biomarkers of liver profiles including bilirubin (Total, Direct and Indirect), total protein, albumin, AG ratio, SGOT, SGPT, ALP, ${\gamma}GT$, LDH, ferritin, renal profile and hematological profile. Descriptive statistics and testing of hypothesis were used for the analysis using EPI INFO and SPSS 16 software. Results: Out of 37 cases of multiple myeloma, serum level of AST, ALT, ALP, ${\gamma}GT$ and LDH were increased above the cut-off point in 22 (59.5%), 24 (64.86%), 13 (35.13%), 9 (24.3%) and 11 (29.7%) respectively. The mean values of AST ($65.5{\pm}28.18$ U/L), ALT ($68.37{\pm}29.74$ U/L), ALP ($328.0{\pm}148.4$ U/L), ${\gamma}GT$ ($44.5{\pm}29.6$ U/L) and LDH ($361.7{\pm}116.5$ U/L), total protein ($9.79{\pm}1.03$ gm/dl) were significantly increased when compared with controls. In contrast, albumin ($3.68{\pm}0.43$ gm/dl) and the AG ratio ($0.62{\pm}0.15$) were significantly decreased. Similarly, anemia, hyperuricemia, azotemia, hypercalcaemia and Bence Jones proteinuria were found in 30 (78.9%), 27 (71.1%), 19 (51.5%), 15 (39.5%) and 16 (42.1%) respectively, in cases of multiple myeloma. Conclusions: While clinical manifestation of liver disease among the multiple myeloma was not common, abnormalities in liver function were characteristic.

  • High speed machining(HSM) technique is widely used in the appliance, automobile part and mold industries, which has many advantages such as good quality, low cost and rapid machining time. but it also has problems like tool break, smooth tool path, and so on. In particular, small size end mill is easy to break, so it must be changed before interrupting operation. Generally, the tool life of small size end mill is effected by the milling conditions whose evaluated parameters are spindle, feedrate, and width of cut. The experiments are carried out by full factorial design of experiments using and orthogonal array. This paper shows optimal combination and mathematical model for tool life, and the analysis of variance(ANOVA) is employed to analyze the main effects and the interactions of these milling parameters and the second-order polynomial regression model with three independent variables is estimated to predict tool life by multiple regression analysis.

  • Recently, infrared (IR)-based depth sensors have proliferated as consumer electronics thanks to decreased price, which led to various applications including gesture recognition in television virtual studios. However, the depth sensors fail to capture depth information correctly under strong light conditions emitting infrared light which are very common in television studios. This paper analyzes the mechanism of such interference between the depth sensors relying on certain IR frequencies and infrared light emitting sources, and provides methods to get correct depth information by applying filters. Also, it describes experiment methods and presents the results of applying multiple combinations of filters with different cut-off frequencies. Finally, it proves that the interference due to IR can be filtered out using proposed filtering method practically by experiment.

  • The develop a simple screening test for identifying Korean elderly at risk of undernutrition, the data of the health-related habits, dietary behaviors and nutrient intakes of the elderly in Chongju were analyzed. Two risk indicators, mean adequacy ratio (MAR) and the respondents perceived health, were used to detect the undernutrition risk of the elderly. In order to select a list of questions for the test, factors a affecting nutritional status and items investigated in previous nutrition surveys of the elderly were considered, and 21 questions were primarily selected. A multiple regression and stepwise regression analysis were used to take out the weak predictors of poor nutrient intake, and to give item weights to the strong predictors, and a list of 17 questions was finally adopted. To determine the cut-point of the test score, sensitivity, and positive predictive values were calculated. The Simple Screening Test developed in this study is a brief, easily scored tool to predict poor nutrient intake and the perceived health status of the elderly. The test may provide a basis of further comprehensive nutritional assessment or intervention planning, if necessary, for those who are diagnosed ad "high risk". The test, however, needs to be independently validated by other groups of individuals.dividuals.

  • Statement of the problem. The record base in fabricating procedures of the complete denture, as a temporary form for reproducing denture base, is used to record upper and lower jaw relation and to align artificial teeth and try-in it in the mouth. The accuracy of jaw relation record is affected by the accuracy, stiffness and stability of the record base. So, the accuracy of record base is the most important requirements of jaw relation records. Purpose of study. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the gap that occurred over the palatal area of a maxillary record base fabricated with autopolymerizing resin and light-curing resin. Methods/material. The maxillary record bases were fabricated out of autopolymerizing resin that is used the most frequently in clinics and light-curing resin that attracts special attention for its several merits. The light-curing resin was made by two kinds of polymerization methods, which are one step curing method and multiple step curing method. All record bases were cut in certain positions of the master cast 1 hour and 1 day later after fabrication and the accuracy of the master cast was measured and analyzed with a microscope. Results. A pattern of gap formation between the record base and the maxillary cast was observed in all specimens. According to kinds of resins, autopolymerizing resin was significantly more accurate than light-curing resin. There was no statistical difference according to time lapse, and in all three groups, the maximum discrepancy occurred at the posterior border in the mid-palatal region. Conclusion. The autopolymerizing resin is better than light-curing resin, and multiple step curing method is more accurate than one step curing method when using light-curing resin.

  • This study was conducted to develop the objective evaluation method for tobacco smoke. The evaluation was carried out by using the data of cut or blended tobacco components, smoke components, electric nose system (ENS), and sensory test. By using the statistical methods, such as cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis, the relationship among the data of tobacco, smoke, ENS, and sensory evaluation was studied. By the results of cluster analysis, the data from smoke analysis by GC and ENS were able to select the difference of tobacco leaf characteristics. As the results of discriminant analysis, grouping by the components of tobacco leaves and smoke was possible and the results of GC analysis of smoke could be used for discrimination of tobacco leaves. In the results of factor analysis, nicotine, tar, CO, puff No and pH in the smoke were the factors effecting on the tobacco leaf characteristics. From the correlation analysis, aroma, taste, irritation, and smoke volume of sensory test had high relation to tar, p-cresol threonolatone, levoglucosane, and quinic acid- ${\gamma}$ -lactone of smoke. The ENS data showed high efficiency for discriminant analysis and cluster analysis, but it was not good for factor analysis, and correlation analysis. It was possible to estimate tobacco leaves and their blending characteristics by the analytical data of tobacco leaves, smoke, ENS, and sensory test results. By the multiple regression analysis, some correlation among selected chemical components and sensory evaluation were found. This study strongly indicated that the some chemical analysis data was available for the objective evaluation of tobacco sensory attributes.
