  • Satellite imagery occurs geometric and radiometric errors due to external environmental factors at the acquired time, which in turn causes false-alarm in change detection. These errors should be eliminated by geometric and radiometric corrections. In this study, we propose a methodology that automatically and simultaneously performs geometric and radiometric corrections by using the SURF (Speeded-Up Robust Feature) algorithm and the mask filter. The MPs (Matching Points), which show invariant properties between multi-temporal imagery, extracted through the SURF algorithm are used for automatic geometric correction. Using the properties of the extracted MPs, PIFs (Pseudo Invariant Features) used for relative radiometric correction are selected. Subsequently, secondary PIFs are extracted by generated mask filters around the selected PIFs. After performing automatic using the extracted MPs, we could confirm that geometric and radiometric errors are eliminated as the result of performing the relative radiometric correction using PIFs in geo-rectified images.

  • Recently, the importance of pre-shipment quality inspection has been emphasized due to the increase of STB supply. In this paper, we propose a method to support automation of quality inspection through simultaneous multi-channel input of STB video signal. The proposed method extracts a fingerprint using the center scan line of the image after stable video shot boundary detection using CeLDP combining color information and LDP code and performs synchronization between input video channels. The proposed method shows stronger shot boundary detection performance than the conventional shot detection method. Through the experiments applied to the real environment, it is possible to secure reliability and real-time quality check for synchronization between multi-channel inputs required for STB quality inspection. Also, based on the proposed method, we intend to study a large-scale quality inspection method in the future and propose a more effective quality inspection system.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a hand rehabilitation training system for hemiplegic patients. We also tried to find out five hand postures (WF: Wrist Flexion, WE: Wrist Extension, BG: Ball Grip, HG: Hook Grip, RE: Rest) in real-time using multi-channel EMG-based deep learning. We performed a pre-processing method that converts to Spider Chart image data for the classification of hand movement from five test subjects (total 1,500 data sets) using Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) deep learning with an 8-channel armband. As a result of this study, the recognition accuracy was 92% for WF, 94% for WE, 76% for BG, 82% for HG, and 88% for RE. Also, ten physical therapists participated for the usability evaluation. The questionnaire consisted of 7 items of acceptance, interest, and satisfaction, and the mean and standard deviation were calculated by dividing each into a 5-point scale. As a result, high scores were obtained in immersion and interest in game (4.6±0.43), convenience of the device (4.9±0.30), and satisfaction after treatment (4.1±0.48). On the other hand, Conformity of intention for treatment (3.90±0.49) was relatively low. This is thought to be because the game play may be difficult depending on the degree of spasticity of the hemiplegic patient, and compensation may occur in patient with weakened target muscles. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a rehabilitation program suitable for the degree of disability of the patient.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the changes in the daily life and quality of life of the elderly due to the spread of COVID-19. This study attempted to supplement the limitations of quantitative analysis by performing both quantitative and qualitative analysis. A large-scale representative data, the Elderly Survey 2017 and 2020, were analyzed, and in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 16 elderly people in Gwangju and Seoul. As a result, it was found that the overall quality of life was positively changed compared to before Corona. The frequency of contact and visits with family members decreased whereas the time spent watching TV increased. The elderly's adaptation to daily life has a series of processes since the first outbreak of COVID-19. At the beginning of the outbreak, there were fear, anxiety, and depression due to isolation, but gradually made efforts to adapt to the new situation. They reported that they realized the importance of human relationships, especially spouses, in a crisis situation and that there were some positive aspects as well. Finally, in all these results a difference was found between single-person households and multi-person households. Through the above research results, academic and policy measures were discussed.

  • In this study, we propose a genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the allocation and operation order of transporters. The solution in the GA is represented by a set of lists each of which the operation order of the corresponding transporter. In addition, it was implemented in the form of a hybrid genetic algorithm combining effective local search operations for performance improvement. The local search reduces the number of operating transporters by moving blocks from a transporter with a low workload into that with a high workload. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, it was compared with Multi-Start and a pure genetic algorithm through a simulation environment similar in scale to an actual shipyard. For the largest problem, compared to them, the number of transporters was reduced by 40% and 34%, and the total task time was reduced by 27% and 17%, respectively.

  • Generally, the events in nature have multi-disciplinary characteristics. To solve this problems, these days loosely coupled methods are widely applied because of advantage of solvers which are already developed and well proved. Those solvers use different mesh system, so transformation and mapping of data are vital in the field of fluid-structure interaction(FSI). In this paper, the interpolation of deformation which is used globally and compactly supported radial basis functions(RBF), and mapping of force which use principle of virtual work are examined for computing time and accuracy to compare ability with simple 3-D problem. As the results, interpolation scheme of compactly supported radial basis functions are useful to interpolation and mapping for large-scale airplane in FSI with a k-dimensional tree(kd-tree) which is a space-partitioning data structure for organizing points in a k-dimensional space.

  • A lab scale distillation experiment is conducted with small size packing used in lab scale multi-tray distillation equipment for the performance evaluation of distillation system. A sufficient surface are yielded with 6.7 mm cylindrical packings made of stainless steel, and a good liquid holdup and residence time are resulted. The comparison between the theoretical tray from the HYSYS and the experimental distillation outcome indicates that a 7 cm HETP from 27 cm packing height and a 8 cm HETP from 45 cm packing height are obtained. Comparing with the 8 cm HETP of commercial structured packing shows a similar experimental results obtained here. The 7 cm HETP is available with a complete insulation, and the importance of the insulation is proved. The results of this study indicates that a practical distillation column used in field can be tested in lab.

  • This study used a real-scale model experiment to reproduce internal fires in residential buildings such as a multi-dwelling unit, in order to prevent damage caused by tens of thousands of fires witnessed each year and to take measures to cope with them. For experimental conditions, different opening sizes were applied to measure and analyze the heating temperature of the exterior wall. Results drawn are as following: when the experiment was conducted with opening sizes(horizontal length) each at 2,000mm, 1,600mm, and 1,400mm, the flashover occurred at 630 seconds, 505 seconds and 510 seconds, respectively. Also, the total heating time, in proportion to this, came to 815 seconds, 713 seconds and 721 seconds. The maximum heating temperature of the exterior wall by the opening size reached 282.4℃ at 2,000mm, 382.9℃ at 1,600mm, and 423.8℃ at 1,400mm. This represented that as the opening size gets smaller, the heating temperature of the exterior wall by fire spread becomes higher.

  • The quality of biopharmaceutical proteins is strongly affected by a manufacturing process employed to produce Et, and thus validation of the manufacturing bioprocess is a very important issue. Chromatography is probably the most widely used bioprocess unit operation for protein purification. In this study, a miniaturized automatic chromatography system was designed and constructed for scale-down studies for process chromatography validation. This system, named MiniValChrom, has the following features: automatic and repeated operation, flexible sequences and intervals among the steps, on-line and real-time monitoring and control, method files savings, etc. Using the MiniValChrom, we peformed a case study of an abbreviated experiment to estimate chromatographic resin lifetime. BSA (bovine serum albumin) and Cibacron Blue 3G-A were used as the model protein and the resin, respectively. The resin deterioration was evaluated by determining and monitoring the HETP and NTP values from the chromatograms every 5 cycles. It was observed that the HETP and the NTP values were changed by 9% after 15 cycles. The resin lifetime validation could be completed by repeating this experiment until the HETP value reached a predetermined value. The MiniValChrom's concept and the protocol suggested in this study can serve as a rapid and economical tool for the validation studies of bioprocess chromatography system.

  • Light-frame wood structures have the ability to carry gravity loads. However, their performance during severe wind storms has indicated weakness with respect to resisting uplift wind loads exerted on the roofs of residential houses. A common failure mode observed during almost all main hurricane events initiates at the roof-to-wall connections (RTWCs). The toe-nail connections typically used at these locations are weak with regard to resisting uplift loading. This issue has been investigated at the Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes, where full-scale testing was conducted of a house under appropriate simulated uplift wind loads. This paper describes the detailed and sophisticated numerical simulation performed for this full-scale test, following which the numerical predictions were compared with the experimental results. In the numerical model, the nonlinear behavior is concentrated at the RTWCs, which is simulated with the use of a multi-linear plastic element. The analysis was conducted on four sets of uplift loads applied during the physical testing: 30 m/sincreased by 5 m/sincrements to 45 m/s. At this level of uplift loading, the connections exhibited inelastic behavior. A comparison with the experimental results revealed the ability of the sophisticated numerical model to predict the nonlinear response of the roof under wind uplift loads that vary both in time and space. A further component of the study was an evaluation of the load sharing among the trusses under realistic, uniform, and code pressures. Both the numerical model and the tributary area method were used for the load-sharing calculations.
