Purpose: This study investigated the orthodontic tooth movement after weekly parathyroid hormone (PTH) injection in mongrel dogs and analyzes bone formation activity on the tension and pressure sides of the tooth movement in mongrel dogs. Materials and Methods: Three mongrel dogs were used in this study. The first premolar was extracted and orthodontic force using 150 g of closed coil springs between the canine and second premolar was applied. The low-dose PTH group (PTH_1) and high-dose PTH group (PTH_2) received weekly injections of 1.61 ㎍/kg and 3.23 ㎍/kg of PTH, respectively. The control group received weekly injections of 1 ml of saline. Clinical, histomorphometric analysis were carried out. Result: The orthodontic tooth movement was greatest in the PTH_2 group and the lowest in the control group. Fluorescence staining images showed higher bone remodeling on the tension side of the tooth movement in the PTH_1 and PTH_2 groups. PTH_2 group showed a thicker labeling band than the PTH_1 group. PTH_2 group showed the highest mineral apposition rate and bone formation rate, followed by the PTH_1 group and the control group. Conclusion: Weekly intermittent PTH injection, especially in the short-term and at higher doses with orthodontic force, successfully increased orthodontic tooth movement and bone remodeling in mongrel dogs.
Both the control and heated specimen of oak, hornbean, alder, poplar, red pine and pitch pine among domestic commercial species and taun imported were used for radial and tangential shrinkage and movement that occurred on changing the relative humidity of the atmosphere from 90 percent to 60 percent at $25^{\circ}C$. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The radial and tangential shrinkage of the control and heated hornbean and oak wood, except alder, of high specific gravity showed greater than species with low specific gravity. The ratio of tangential to radial shrinkage was 1.46 for taun to 2.70 for alder. Green volume specific gravity of the heated and soaked specimen of all species except poplar decreased 1.5 to 3.1 percent. Shrinkage of the heated specimen increased more than that of the control specimen, and antishrink efficiency of all timbers except alder had negative value. Shrinkage from green to air dry of treated specimens increased more than case of total shrinkage, and radial shrinkage of those specimen increased greater than tangential shrinkage. 3. The movement of the heating specimen for 120 hours decreased than those of the control and the heating specimen for 240 hours. The movement of heating oak, poplar, red pine and pitch pine (or 240 hours increased rather than those of the control specimen.
Purpose: This study compared the movement control ability of the ankle joint according to the type of muscle contraction, namely, eccentric or concentric contractions. Methods: Thirty-four healthy adult subjects participated in this study. As a single group, before the experiment, the subjects were trained on achieving the required position of the ankle around the target point by manually controlling the ankle dorsiflexion by 10°. Concentric contraction starts at 0° and continues until the target point of 10° is reached. During an eccentric contraction, the ankle joint starts at 20° ankle dorsiflexion and continues till the target point is reached. Movements using eccentric contraction and concentric contraction were randomly performed 3 times each. Results: The results of comparing the difference in the movement control ability of each type of muscle contraction of ankle dorsiflexion showed that the measurement-remeasurement error was significant in eccentric contraction. Conclusion: In this study, we found a difference in the ability to control movement according to whether the contraction is eccentric or concentric. Therefore, we propose that the ability to control movement is affected by the type of muscle contraction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a functional movement correction exercise on the functional movement screen scores of badminton players. Methods: The participants consisted of 25 badminton players who were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 13) or a control group (n = 12); they engaged in exercise three times per week for eight weeks. The experimental group engaged in the functional movement correction exercise, while the control group engaged in general exercise. An FMS kit (USA) was used to measure the following: FMS score, deep squat, hurdle step, in-line lunge, shoulder mobility, active straight leg raise, trunk stability push up, and rotary stability. Results: The FMS score, deep squat, hurdle step, in-line lunge, shoulder mobility, active straight leg raise, and trunk stability push up, and rotary stability showed significant improvement in the experimental group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The experiment confirmed that the functional movement screen scores of badminton players improve with effective exercise interventions.
The biologic potential, which is different from the piezoelectric signals, relates tooth movement at least in part to changes in bone metaboliosm in bioelectric theory. The purpose of this experiment was to determine wheather the application of half sine-wave pulsed electromagnetic fields (HSPEMF) could increase both the rate and amount of orthodontic tooth movement. Forty-three male Hartley guinea pigs, weighting approximately 255g, were utilized in this study. The animals were 35 days old at the start of the study. Laterally directed orthodontic force was applied to the maxillary central incisors of 40 Hartley guinea pigs (20 experimental, 20 control). According to the amount of orthodontic force (6g, 12g), they were divided into two sub-groups (10 experimental I, 10 experimental II, 10 control I, 10 control II). During the experimental period, experimental animals were placed in plastic animal holders with their heads positioned in an area of uniform electromagnetic field. Control animals were placed in similar plastic holders that did not carry the electric apparatus. The results were as follows : 1. The application of a HSPEMF to the experimental groups significantly increase the final amount of orthodontic tooth movement observed over a 10-day experimental period. 2. The application of a HSPEMF to the experimental groups significantly increase the velocity of orthodontic tooth movement observed over a 10-day experimental period. 3. There was no significant difference in the final amount of orthodontic tooth movement at the fourth day to the eighth day, but there was significant difference in the final amount of orthodontic tooth movement at the nineth, tenth day during a 10-day experimental period. 4. After 10 days of HSPEMF exposure & orthodontic force, the experimental groups demonstrated more osteodasts in the pressure side than control groups.
The purposes of this review are that 1) what is the the concept of motor control, 2) what is the content of motor control assessment, and 3) which instruments or scales are used in clinical setting. Motor control is defined broadly the control of both movement and posture. And motor control focuses on understanding the control of movement already acquired. The purposes of assessment are screening, placement to apprpriate treatment program, program plan, evaluation, and progress assessment for individuals. The content of motor control assessment is included not only fexibility, tone, reflex & reaction, muscle strength, movement pattern, balance, gait, and functional ability, but also cognition, arousal, sensation, and perception. There ars many kinds of instruments or scales for assessing motor ability. Most of materials are tested the validity and reliability. But Korea has not own instrument for assessing motor ability. Therefore, Korea needs to develop the assessing tools for motor ability.
The cost-effectiveness of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) control strategies was evaluated using a simulation model fitted to the 2010/11 FMD epidemic in the city of Andong, Republic of Korea. Seven FMD-control strategies were evaluated with respect to the direct cost of a FMD-control strategy, such as slaughtering, movement restriction, and vaccination. All the strategies included pre-emptive slaughtering, movement restriction, and vaccination, but the levels of each control option were different. The simulated median cost of the baseline FMD-control strategy (three kilometers of pre-emptive slaughtering area, 100 days of movement restriction and vaccination of all FMD-susceptible animals in the study area) was estimated to be USD 99.7 million. When a five kilometer vaccination area was applied (with the other control measures being the same as the baseline strategy), the simulated median cost was reduced to USD 81.1 million from USD 99.7. The simulated median costs were USD 107.6 million for a five kilometer radius slaughtering area and USD 168.8 million for 60 days of movement restriction. The FMD-control strategy cost decreased with increasing number of farms depopulated per day. The probability of passive surveillance being effective or the probability of the successful implementation of movement restrictions were increased. Cost-effectiveness analysis is a suitable tool for evaluating the financial consequences of FMD-control strategies by comparing the cost of control strategies for a specific area.
A hybrid control scheme is proposed for the stabilization of backward movement along simple paths for a vehicle composed of a truck and six trailers. The hybrid comprises the combination of a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and a neurocontroller (NC) that is trained by a genetic algorithm (GA). Acting singly, either the NC or the LQR are unable to perform satisfactorily over the entire range of the operation required, but the proposed hybrid is shown to be capable of providing good overall system performance. The evaluation function of the NC in the hybrid design has been modified from the conventional type to incorporate both the squared errors and the running steps errors. The reverse movement of the trailer-truck system can be modeled as an unstable nonlinear system, with the control problem focusing on the steering angle. Achieving good backward movement is difficult because of the restraints of physical angular limitations. Due to these constraints the system is impossible to globally stabilize with standard smooth control techniques, since some initial states necessarily lead to jack-knife locks. This paper demonstrates that a hybrid of neural networks and LQR can be used effectively for the control of nonlinear dynamical systems. Results from simulated trials are reported.
Although pantograph has been used to investigate whether the determinents of the mandibular movement were possible contributing factors of TMJ click, there was the problems to understand the role of tooth morphology upon the occurrence of click because of using appliance without tooth contacts. There Were advantages to evaluate the effects of tooth morphology upon the mandibular movements, because intraoral tracing device(Functiograph$^{(R)}$) had been obtained maintaining occlusal contact between the upper and lower natural teeth during mandibular movement. The purpose of this study was to record the mandibular eccentric movement quantitatively performed in 20 adult control subjects and 20 adult subjects with TMJ click and to investigate the effects of occlusion upon the occurrence of TMJ click. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The average ICP-P distance was $3.07{\pm}0.73mm$ in subjects with TMJ click, $2.14{\pm}0.85mm$ in control subjects. There was a statistical significance between subjects with TMJ click and control subjects(P<0.001). 2. The average ICP-P distance was $3.07{\pm}1.14mm$ in subjects with TMJ click, $2.61{\pm}0.96mm$ in control subjects. There was a statistical significance between subjects with TMJ click and control subjects(P<0.05). 3. The average distance of right and left lateral movement was not statistically significant between subjects with TMJ click and control subjects. 4. The average lateral displacement from midline during RCP was $0.75{\pm}0.54mm$ subjects with TMJ click, $0.16{\pm}0.17mm$ in control subjects. There was a statistical significance between subjects with TMJ click and control subjects(P<0.001). 5. The average lateral displacement from midline during protrusive movement was $0.88{\pm}0.54mm$ in subjects with TMJ click, $0.20{\pm}0.23mm$ in control subjects. There was a statistical significance between subjects with TMJ click and control subjects(P<0.001). 6. The average angle of right and left lateral movement was $144.2{\pm}20.20^{\circ}$ in subjects with TMJ click, $138.15{\pm}20.09^{\circ}$ in control subjects. There was a statistical significance between subjects with TMJ click and control subjects(P<0.05).

Electro-wetting display (EWD) that displays information by controling movement of fluid is one of the strong candidates for electronic paper display (EPD). In EWD cell. the movement of oil which locates between hydrophobic insulation layer and deionized water is rather random, which makes it difficult to realize gray scale, fast response time, and good color characteristics. In this paper, we investigated how to control the oil movement in specific one direction by surface treatment and pattered electrodes. From these experiments, we could control oil movement in a desired direction.
