A Study on Power Conversion System of the High Speed Train (고속전철 견인용 전력변환장치에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the current-fed inverter of a TGV-K traction system with thyristor switches using phase control and commutation techniques. The current-fed inverters have two modes of operation which consist of forced commutation and natural commutation. In forced commutation mode, at speed of less than 120km/h, commutation is forced by means of the commutation capacitors and the thyristors. Above 120km/h, the thyristors operate in natural commutation mode, according to the voltages between phases of the motors. In this paper, the power conversion theory of the TGV-K traction system and the control principle of the converter and current-fed inverter are discussed.

  • Type of the high-speed train under development has been decided to be EMU(electric multiple Units) following the trend of the times, which is weak for vibration and noise due to the distributed traction unit of motors and gears than that of the articulated high-speed train. Also, passengers may feel uncomfortable at high-speed running due to the various vibration of vehicle itself and bogie, especially due to hunting, snake motion of the high-speed train. In this paper, explained was the program to develop the high-speed EMU at every step of basic and detail design and running test, predict and try to reduce the vibration.

  • This paper described an on-line condition monitoring device for rotating machines by measurement of unbalance current due to insulation deterioration. The device consists of a zero-phase current transformer (ZCT), a low-noise amplifying circuit, and a microprocessor unit. The prototype device measures current of $500\;{\mu}A\;{\sim}\;30\;mA$ in frequency ranges from 10 Hz to 3 kHz. An application experiment was carried out on 3-phase induction motors and we could measure current changes caused by a short-circuited turn.

  • This paper described the design and fabrication of a series arc detection module to monitor electrical insulation in low-voltage system. The module consists of a passive high-pass filter with a low cut-off frequency of 3 kHz to attenuate power frequency voltage by 80 dB and an active band-pass filter with a frequency of 4 kHz to detect series arc signals only. For the application experiment, we simulated series arcing phenomena on various loads such as incandescent lamp controlled by dimmer and inverter fed induction motors by an arc generator specified in UL1699. From the experimental results, we could detect series arc signals without an influence of noises.

  • With the increase in population, the area of human activities has expanded, resulting in the dramatic increase in the need for transportation system. Various infrastructures necessary for efficient logistics, however, have not been supplied enough and the logistics efficiency in Korea is in a bad situation now. As a result of the situation, the demand for the railroad transportation system that can provide large volume transportation has increased dramatically. An electric railway system is composed of high-tech subsystems, among which main electric equipment such as motors and converter are critical components determining the performance of electric vehicle. Among the on-board equipments, traction equipment is important part that has influence on safety and performances of vehicles. We is studied for high-speed train of foreign countries. From this research, we knows that axle weight of HEMU-400x is reasonable within 13ton.

  • It is not easy to control the speed of AC motors accurately without modeling with some parameters for the controlled system. However, there are some application parts which do not require high speed responses strictly and the motor parameters can not to be identified simply. In this paper, a speed control method for a synchronous motor(S.M) with unknown parameters of the motor is investigated. The method is based on the current control algorithm. Speed controller and current controller are designed using PI control law. Some experiments are performed using DSP and power expert system to prove the validity of the proposed method. Throughout experimental results, the method is confirmed successfully. This method is expected to control the system with unknown parameters of the S.M efficiently.

  • A free piston and free displacer(FPFD) Stirling cryocooler for cooling infrared and cryo-sensors is currently under development at KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials). A Stirling cryocooler is relatively compact, reliable, commercially available, and uses helium as a working fluid. The FPFD stirling cryocooler consists of two compressor pistons driven by linear motors which makes pressure waves and a pneumatically driven displacer piston with regenerator. The FPFD Stirling cryocooler employs 1) the Stirling cycle for refrigeration, 2) linear for driving the cryocooler, 3) spring and gas support systems, and 4) fine gap for clearance seals. It is the most suitable design for a mechanical cryocooler utilized in night vision environment. In order to get optimum operating frequency, natural frequency of piston and displacer, optimum phase angle between piston and displacer, cooling capacity, performance tests of the Stirling cryocooler by the frequency characteristics were performed.

Calculation of Electromagnetic Excitation Forces in Double Skewed Motors

  • An electromagnetic excitation force is caused by the air-gap flux density, which greatly influences the noise and vibration of the motor. In many real projects, skewed slot technology is widely used to reduce the harmonic components of the air-gap flux density to reduce the noise and vibration of the motor. However, a skewed slot has several side effects such as a transverse current and axial drifting. Thus, a double skewed slot rotor is selected with the aim of eliminating these side effects. This paper presents the exact structure of the double skewed slot rotor and the mechanism whereby the electromagnetic excitation force can be reduced. A multi-slice method is adopted to model the special structure. Finite element simulation is used to verify the theory.

  • Rotor bar faults in induction machines, which are a part of main distribution of power system, can even stop the entire system by causing contact between a stator and a rotor. There are two methods of diagnosing rotor bar faults in induction motors, online and offline tests, and existing diagnosis methods have many limitations which can lead to misdiagnosis. This paper proposes a potable rotor bar faults diagnosis system based on single phase rotation test, one of offline test methods, which detects rotor bar faults through impedance interpretation by exciting AC current in a stator winding. The test was conducted on a motor of 0.4kW in the laboratory and a motor of 1500kW in industry field.

  • 본 논문은 전기버스에 사용되는 HDC(High voltage DC-DC Converter)를 위한 제어 전략에 대하여 설명한다. 기존 IGBT를 사용한 HDC는 낮은 동작 주파수로 인하여 전류 리플 만족을 위해 인덕터 용량이 증대되며, 대 전류 구동 시 자기 포화방지를 위해 코어의 크기가 커지는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 고속 스위칭 특성이 우수한 SiC-FET의 적용을 통해 인덕터 용량을 저감하였다. 또한 일반 산업에서 많이 사용되고 있는 Phase-Shift PWM 방식의 아날로그 IC를 사용하여 비절연 강압형 DC-DC 컨버터의 동작 및 성능을 구현시킬 수 있는 방법에 대하여 설명한다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 방식의 타당성을 검증하기 위하여 이론적 분석 및 시작품을 제작하여 실험을 수행하였으며, 본 연구의 제어 전략과 제품의 성능은 실차 시험을 통하여 그 타당성을 검증하였고 보완설계를 통하여 신뢰성을 확보하였다.
