In this paper, we propose an attitude controller for an unstructured object using CMG(Control Moment of Gyro) subsystem, which has a stabilizer function. The CMG subsystem consists of one motor for spinning the wheel and the other motor for turning the outer gimbal. While the wheel of CMG subsystem is spinning at high speed, applying force to the spin axis of the wheel leads the torque about the vertical axis. We utilize the torque to control the attitude of object in this study. For the stabilizer function, in additiion, holding the load at the current position, the power applied to the gimbal motor of CMG will be cut, which result in the braking force to stop the load by gyro effect. However, due to the gear reduction connected to outer gimbal, slow load motion cannot generate the braking force. Thus, in this study, we are willing to make a holding force by applying control power to the gimbal motor from the signal of piezoelectric gyroscopic sensor that detected the angular velocity of the load. These two features are demonstrated in experiment, carrying a beam with crane. As a result, load was started to rotate by controlling gimbal positiion and was stopped by turning off the gimbal power. Moreover, slow movement of the load was also rejected by additional control with gyroscopic sensor.

Short circuit and ground fault account for the primary causes of electrical fires. In this research, real-scale experiments were conducted to assess the possibility of electrical fires due to these causes. The experiment conditions were identical with an actual fire accident, in which the power cable was supported by an iron fence. The purposes of this research are to investigate the short circuit caused by wire cutting, the conductivity of the iron fence depending on its coating conditions, and the ground fault of one wire or two wires in an effort to reconstruct the fire accident. The test results show that, owing to the instant operation of circuit breaker in the moment of short circuit or ground fault, the generated ignition energy is far less than necessary to start an ignition. Therefore it is concluded that electrical fire is highly unlikely if the electric system is protected by a circuit breaker with normal functions.
In the newly developed control method, the current flowing into SPE cell is the only one considerable factor. So, the structure of control circuit becomes simple and the manufacturing cost of the control device decreases. In conventional power comparison MPPT control method however, a voltage and current coming out from PV cell should be feedbacked to chase maximum power point at every moment. Then, the structure of control circuit becomes so complex and the risk of control failure is much higher than the novel MPPT control method. Therefore, PV generation system by a novel MPPT control method is especially operated much more safely in case of a huge system, because the voltage coming out from PV-cell is not needed to be feedbacked. In this paper, the PV-SPR system was actually manufactured based on the simulation model of PSCAD/EMTDC program and the results tested were shown. Authors are sure that it is the most useful method to maximize power from PV to SPE with only a feedback of SPE input current.

The wind profiler radar provides a standing profile of the wind vector and the atmospheric physical signal for the fixed point. Since the wind vector is calculated by the manufacturer's data processing program, the quality control of the date is limited. Therefore, understanding and exploiting the raw spectrum data need to improve the quality of the wind vector. The raw data of the wind vector is the power spectral density stored in binary form. In this study, an algorithm was completed to transform the raw data into the real spectral density, and the use of raw data was evaluated by retrieving zero-order and first-order moments of the spectral based on the spectrum quality control.

The demand for electric power is increasing every year in Korea. All the systems adopted at power stations in order to generate and transmit electric power should operate in perfect condition or reliability. The device for transmitting the generated high-voltage electric power is 6 kV CV single core cables. The manufacturing companies of the cables makes an official announcement that the operating lifetime of their cables is about 30years. But from the moment of operation the deterioration precesses of worsening the characteristics of cables starts. Since the reliability for the status of installed cables in deterioration has not been diagnosed, the cables can be broken at any unexpected moments. In order to prevent the abrupt cable accident by systematically monitoring the cable status, we have invented the first device in Korea. We have installed our device at Korea Western Power Co. Ltd. in order to diagnose the live cables. In this paper, we present our research results of measured temperatures of inner conductor and surface and the compared results of those data with other cable company. We also show that our results agree with those made by other company.

As the demand for electric power increases, all devices operating in power stations and all devices adopted in order to deliver distant loads need to be operating in perfect condition at the level of reliability expected by consumers. In general, the lifetime of cables used in delivering high power is declared to be 30 years from the time of production. Deterioration (which is the worsening of electric properties) starts from the very moment of operation. In spite of the reduction in reliability caused by deterioration, the reality is that cables often operate at considerable risk of accidents because the reliability of operation has not been diagnosed. We have invented a device to diagnose the deterioration processes of high-voltage power cables. It has been installed and is currently operating at Korea Western Power Co., Ltd., located in Chungnam, Korea. In previously published papers we have shown graphs obtained by plotting insulation resistances versus time, through analyzing the data extracted from operating cables using the devices we have invented. In this paper, we verify that the previously plotted graphs agree with the life time index of Weibull distribution of probability.

When the wind speed changes rapidly, the wind turbine is stopped for the safety of the power system and the mechanical system. At that moment, the wind turbine gearbox is damaged and broken due to the contact load of the gearbox. In addition, the problems such as increasing frictional heat and deteriorate of the brake occur, because the power of the blades is transmitted directly to the brakes. This paper proposes a hybrid magnetic gear shape that solves the problem caused by the contact of the mechanical gear, which is the power transmission device of the wind power generation system, and the power cutoff system. The shape of the hybrid magnetic gearsuitable for the wind power generation system is derived through the torque and loss analysis according to the shape of the hybrid magnetic gear by using the two dimensional finite analysis method.

In general, a high tension on the anchor and chain is placed when a ship at anchor is subjected to heavy weather. Mariners have to pay attention to whether dragging anchor occurs to keep the safety of the ship at anchorage since it is difficult to maintain the stable motion of ship and it causes collisions with other ships nearby. In this paper, the ship motion against the external forces was shown to obtain the fundamental data about characteristic of holding power due to nature of seabed at anchor, so practical trials were carried out in rocky area and muddy area using a trial ship around coastal area of South Korea. In muddy seabed, holding power showed reasonable tension values depending on the distance from anchor position of continuing swing motions of a ship corresponding to wind force. Meanwhile in rocky seabed, tension values on the chain appeared very high occasionally regardless of the distance from the anchor position and seemed to exceed its holding power to be the breaking strain of the chain although weather was not in a severe condition. Therefore, some of the cables laid on the seabed were presumed to be caught in a crack on the rock. It is assumed that even a small amount of external force may cause the chain to break in a moment in rocky seabed. Additionally, wind and current forces had a somewhat contradictory effect on holding power of the ship between them.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical alterations in the punching motion of 10 elderly women after 12 weeks of taekwonaerobics training. Seven infrared cameras(Qualisys MCU-240) and 2 force platforms(Kistler-9286AA) were used to acquire raw data. The results were as follows. First, the minimum joint angles of the lower limbs had a statistically significant difference between both the dorsiflexion/plantar flexion(1eft, $p=0.001^*$) and the inversion/eversion(both, $p=0.009^*$, $p=0.04^*$) from the ankle angle. There were differences in abduction/adduction(left, $p=0.04^*$) from the knee angle, as well as internal/external rotation(both, $p=0.07^*$, $p=0.02^*$) from the hip angle. Second, the maximum resultant joint moments of the lower limbs had statistically significant differences in the inversion/eversion moment from the ankle joint(both, $p=0.05^*$, $p=0.05^*$), the abduction/adduction moment(left, $p=0.08^*$) from the knee joint, and the internal/external rotation moment(right, $p=0.09^*$) from the hip joint. Third, the maximum resultant joint powers of the lower limbs had a statistically significant difference both in flexion/extension joint powers(both, $p=0.05^*$, $p=0.01^*$) and in abduction/adduction(both, $p=0.02^*$, $p=0.00^*$) from the hip joint, as well as abduction/adduction(left, $p=0.00^*$) from the knee joint, In conclusion, the elderly women were somewhat changed after 12 weeks of taekwonaerobics training.
In this study, a five-story steel frame was designed in accordance with KBC2005 to evaluate the effects of the beam-column connection on the structural behavior. The connections were designed as fully rigid and semi-rigid. The fiber model was used to describe the moment-curvature relationship of the steel beam and the column, the power model for the moment-rotation angle of the semi-rigid connection and the three-parameter model for the hysteretic behavior of the steel beam, column, and connection. The structure was idealized as separate 2-D frames and as connected 2-D frames. The peak ground accelerations of four earthquake records were modified in a time-history analysis for the levels of the mean return period and for the maximum base-shear force in a pushover analysis. The top story displacement, base-shear force, story drift, demanded ductility ratio for the semi-rigid connection, maximum bending moment of the column, beam, and connection, and distribution of the plastic hinge were examined in the time-history analysis. The frame with the semi-rigid connection yielded a lower base-shear force, less magnitude, and increasing ratio in the bending moment of the column, beam, and connection than the frame with a fully rigid connection. The TSD connection was deemed to have secured the economy and safety of the sample structure that was subjected to seismic excitation for the Korean design level.
