  • In this study, the thermal characteristics of cold and hot water mattress units equipped with thermoelectric modules were investigated via numerical analyses. Cold and hot water mattress products that are currently in existence use manual methods requiring refrigerants to be added to the hot water boiler. However, the cold and hot water mattress units using thermoelectric modules can provide improved efficiency via energy savings and actively resolving environmental pollution problems. To determine the efficiency of the thermoelectric module, the mattress was modeled and its efficiency was analyzed for the cooling and heating processes using two 100-W-class and one 200-W-class thermoelectric modules, respectively. From the results of this study, it was confirmed that when two 100-W-class modules were used, the application area was larger than when a single 200-W-class module was used, with uniform temperature distribution and improved performance compared to existing products in terms of electrical energy.

  • This paper demonstrates the performance of a metal-substrate power module with multiple fabricated chips for a high current electrical application, and evaluates the proposed module using a 1.5-kW sinusoidal brushless direct current (BLDC) motor. Specifically, the power module has a hybrid structure employing a single-layer heat-sink extensible metal board (Al board). A fabricated motor driver IC and trench gate DMOSFET (TDMOSFET) are implemented on the Al board, and the proper heat-sink size was designed under the operating conditions. The fabricated motor driver IC mainly operates as a speed controller under various load conditions, and as a multi-phase gate driver using an N-ch silicon MOSFET high-side drive scheme. A fabricated power TDMOSFET is also included in the fabricated power module for three-phase inverter operation. Using this proposed module, a BLDC motor is operated and evaluated under various pulse load tests, and our module is compared with a commercial MOSFET module in terms of the system efficiency and input current.

  • The construction industry's lack of experience and expertise makes it difficult for projects to realize the full benefits of implementing modular construction. Such project performance-hindering elements are often labeled as modular challenges. The added requirement for the transportation of the finished volumetric module is one aspect of the 'module transportation logistics,' the under-researched modular challenge that can prevent projects from incurring maximum cost and productivity benefits. The typical module transportation phases include lifting, transporting, and offloading. From conducting a literature review, this paper aims to investigate the equipment commonly adopted to lift and offload the module and validate its economic efficiency by comparing it with the alternative lifting/offloading equipment used in the two case projects. The results showed that hydraulic jacks are an economic alternative to the crane for lifting/offloading the module. The increase in single-module projects with smaller budgets made crane usage economically undesirable, and this study suggested a viable option for a more economical alternative.

  • This thesis is based on the research and experiment of the optimal efficiency generation of electric power. The research and experiment were conducted to search the optimal generation of electric power from a specific amount of solar energy from Photovoltaic Power System with a solar position tracker were used. The changes in the array angles and spacing of the PV Module were also taken into account as well. Here are the findings and the conclusions. First of all, based on experiment using the various anglers, the efficiency generation of electric power increased to a maximum of approximately $12{\sim}17$[%] more at the PV module inclination angle of 30[$^{\circ}$] than at the inclination angles of 20[$^{\circ}$] and 40[$^{\circ}$]. As a result, we have found that installing the PV module inclination at the angle of 30[$^{\circ}$] brought about the most efficient conversion effect of the Photovoltaic Power System. But, when the solar cell is installed on a roof or rooftop where snow builds up, it is the most appropriate to install the solar energy at an 35[$^{\circ}$] angle so that snow slides down and not build up on the module.

  • Recently, the expansion of the domestic solar market due to the promotion of eco-friendly and alternative energy-related policies is promising, and it is expected to lead the high-efficiency/high-power module market based on M10 or larger cells to reduce LCOE, 540-560W, M12 based on M10 cells Compared to the existing technology with an output of 650-700W based on cells, it is necessary to secure competitiveness through the development of modules with 600W based on M10 cells and 750W based on M12 cells. For the development of high efficiency/high-power n-type bifacial, it is necessary to secure a lightweight technology and structure due to the increase in weight of the glass to glass module according to the large area of the module. Since the mechanical strength characteristics according to the large area and high weight of the module are very important, design values such as a frame of a new structure that can withstand the mechanical load of the Mechanical Load Test and the location of the mounting hole are required. In this study, a structural analysis design model was introduced to secure mechanical reliability according to the enlargement of the module area, and the design model was verified through the mechanical load test of the actual product. It can be used as a design model to secure the mechanical reliability required for PV modules by variables such as module area, frame shape, and the location and quantity of mounting holes of the structural analysis model verified. A relationship of output drop can be obtained.

  • The efficiency variation of UF(tubular)/RO(spiral wound) process using acrylic wastewater treated by photo-catalyst pretreatment and coagulant-filter-neutralization pretreatment processes were discussed wit the variation of appled pressure and temperature. Ultrafiltration tubular module using acrylic wastewater treated by photo-catalyst pretreatment and coagulant-filter-neutralization pretreatment processes was shown that COD and T-N were not highly affected with the variation of appled pressure and temperature. It was shown that removal efficiency of COD and T-N was low. Removal efficiency of TDS and turbidity with ultrafiltration tubular module was better with the acrylic wastewater by photo-catalyst pretreatment than acrylic wastewater by coagulant-filter-neutralization pretreatment. T-N and TDS were shown high removal efficiency in reverse osmosis membrane process.

  • This paper proposes the 80-kW high-efficiency bidirectional hybrid SiC boost/buck converter using droop control for DC nano-grid. The proposed converter consists of four 20-kW modules to achieve fault tolerance, ease of thermal management, and reduced component stress. Each module is constructed as a cascaded structure of the two basic bi-directional converters, namely, interleaved boost and buck converters. A six-pack hybrid SiC intelligent power module (IPM) suitable for the proposed cascaded structure is adopted for high-efficiency and compactness. The proposed converter with hybrid switching method reduces the switching loss by minimizing switching of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). Each module control achieves smooth transfer from buck to boost operation and vice versa, since current controller switchover is not necessary. Furthermore, the proposed parallel control using DC droop with secondary control, enhances the current sharing accuracy while well regulating the DC bus voltage. A 20-kW prototype of the proposed converter has been developed and verified with experiments and indicates a 99.3% maximum efficiency and 98.8% rated efficiency.

  • This study aims to develop a sulfur-using denitrification process which is possible a renovation to advanced treatment plant submerging a simple module in activated sludge aeration tank. At first, the impact factor of sulfur-using denitrification was appreciated by the batch test. Secondly, reflecting a dissolved oxygen effect of sulfur-using denitrification that was confirmed by the batch test, in a continuous nitrification/sulfur-using denitrification, high-rate nitrogen removal reaction was induced at optimum condition controlling DO concentration according to phases. Also, inside and outside of sulfur-using denitrification module was covered with microfilter and the module was considered as an alternative of clarifier. Result of batch test for sulfur-using denitrification, $NO_2{^-}N$ was lower for consumption of alkalinity and sulfur than that of $NO_3{^-}-N$. These results revealed the accordance of theoretical prediction. In continuous nitrification/sulfur-using denitrification experiment, actual wastewater was used as a influent, and influent nitrogen loading rates were increased 0.04, 0.07, 0.11, $0.14kg\;N/m^3-day$ by changing hydraulic retention times. At this time, nitrogen loading rates of packed sulfur were increased 0.23, 0.46, 0.69, $0.93kg\;N/m^3-day$. As a result, nitrification efficiency was about 100% and denitrification efficiency was 93, 81, 79, 72%. Accordingly, nitrogen removal was a high-rate. Also the module of sulfur-using denitrification covered with microfilter did not make a fouling phenomena according to increased flux. And the module was achieved effluent suspended solids of below 10 mg/L without a clarifier. In conclusion, it is possible a renovation to advanced treatment plant submerging a simple module packed sulfur in activated sludge aeration tank of traditional facilities. And the plant used the module packed sulfur is expected as a effective facilities of high-rate and the smallest.

  • This paper presents a high-efficiency power conditioning system (PCS) for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) modules. The proposed PCS consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a single-phase DC-AC inverter for the grid-connected PV modules. A soft-switching step-up DC-DC converter is proposed to generate a high DC-link voltage from the low PV module voltage with a high-efficiency. A DC-link voltage controller is presented for constant DC-link voltage regulation. A half-bridge inverter is used for the single-phase DC-AC inverter for grid connection. A grid current controller is suggested to supply PV electrical power to the power grid with a unity power factor. Experimental results are obtained from a 180 W grid-connected PV module system using the proposed PCS. The proposed PCS achieves a high power efficiency of 93.0 % with an unity power factor for a 60 Hz / 120 Vrms AC power grid.
