A Signal Receiving system to collect and analyze RF signals should be verified under simulated RF signal environment prior to verification on operation in fields and tested by using simulated RF signals in order to estimate its electrical performance. Generally, typical Signal Receiving system can measure, analyze frequency, pulse modulation, scan modulation, phase modulation on pulse, frequency modulation on pulse etc on RF signals. These RF signals should be generated from simulated RF sources in laboratory. Also the simultaneous RF signals should be simulated on laboratory. This paper describes the results of studying effective simulated RF signal source generation, the methods of the precise RF test signal generation in consideration of operational scenario.
In this paper, various modulation techniques, including the legacy Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal modulation techniques, are introduced and the spectral characteristics and correlation characteristics of signals with various modulation techniques are analyzed based on numerical simulation. With the development of various GNSS services, the limited frequency band has become increasingly saturated, and issues of interoperability and compatibility have emerged in the new GNSS design. Since the efficient allocation of frequency resources is closely related to spectrum design, modulation techniques are one of the important signal design parameters of new signal design. Signal modulation techniques are closely related to various figure of merits (FoMs) as well as spectrum characteristic, and in some cases there is a complicated trade-off between FoMs. Thus, the FoMs associated with modulation technology should be analyzed and the best signal candidates should be chosen carefully via the trade-off analysis for FoMs. In this paper, we define the modulation technique based on Phase Shift Keying (PSK), Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) and Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) for the design of KPS signals, and the FoMs of signals in terms of spectrum and correlation function are evaluated. Signals with various modulation techniques are implemented through a numerical simulation, and the relevant FoMs are analyzed.

The optimum convolutional error correction codes for recently standardized Feher-patented quadrature phase-shift keying (FQPSK-B) modulation are proposed. We utilize the continuous phase modulation characteristics of FQPSK-B signals for calculating the minimum Euclidean distance of convolutional coded FQPSK-B signal. It is shown that the Euclidean distance between two FQPSK-B signals is proportional to the Hamming distance between two binary data sequence. Utilizing this characteristic, we show that the convolutional codes with optimum free Hamming distance is the optimum convolutional codes for FQPSK-B signals.
Automatic modulation classification is essential in radar emitter identification. We propose a cascade classifier by combining a support vector machine (SVM) and convolutional neural network (CNN), considering that noise might be taken as radar signals. First, the SVM distinguishes noise signals by the main ridge slice feature of signals. Second, the complex envelope features of the predicted radar signals are extracted and placed into a designed CNN, where a modulation classification task is performed. Simulation results show that the SVM-CNN can effectively distinguish radar signals from noise. The overall probability of successful recognition (PSR) of modulation is 98.52% at 20 dB and 82.27% at -2 dB with low computation costs. Furthermore, we found that the accuracy of intermediate frequency estimation significantly affects the PSR. This study shows the possibility of training a classifier using complex envelope features. What the proposed CNN has learned can be interpreted as an equivalent matched filter consisting of a series of small filters that can provide different responses determined by envelope features.

The performance of M-ary APSK modulation system due to phase noise are analyzed in this paper. The effects for phase noise in the higher order modulation are simulated by using constellation of the higher order modulation signals. the simulated results are verified by comparing with the analytic results for lower order PSK modulation signals. Based on the evaluation of simulation method, the phase noise effects for higher order APSK modulation signals are suggested in this paper.

The paper describes a Layered Modulation using the SVC signals and studies the properties of the modulation with respect to several parameters by the computer simulation. The SVC signals will include a base layer signal and an enhancement signal, and the base layer signal is the more important one in its channel robustness. The parameters will include a carrier frequency, a bandwidth, power level, modulation type and code rate. We analyze the demodulating and decoding process of the Layered Modulation system through several scatter plots. And then we discuss the affect of the layer signal power difference to the BER performance, which also proves the base layer signal is more important than the enhancement layer signal.

In electronic support systems, the analysis of PRI modulation characteristics for radar signals has attracted much interest because of the problem of the identification ambiguity in dense electronic warfare signal environments. A new method of recognizing the PRI modulation types of radar pulse signals is proposed for electronic support. The proposed method recognizes the PRI modulation types using the classifiers which are based on the property of the linear autocorrelation of the PRI sequences for each PRI modulation type. In addition, the proposed method estimates the PRI modulation period for the PRI modulation types with the periodicity. Simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed method.

The performance of continuous phase modulation signals is well known for the coherent demodulation. But the carrier recovery circuits of the coherent receiver have long acquisition time and the receiver experiences high error floors for fading channels. In this paper, we propose the differential demodulation of 2-h continuous phase modulation signals. The sets of modulation indices of 2-h phase codes adequate to the differential demodulation for differentially encoded input are obtained and the average bit error probability in Additive White Gaussian Noise environments is derived and analyzed.

Based on the simulation model for phase noise effect, the phase noise performance of communication system using the M-ary APSK modulation method is analyzed in this paper. The phase noise effects for APSK higher order modulation method are modeled by considering the signal constellations of the modulation methods. The simulation model is verified by comparing the analytic results for lower order modulation signals with simulated results for those modulation signals. Based on the simulation model, then, the phase noise effects for M-ary APSK are analyzed. The simulated results for PSK lower order modulation signals are in agreement with the results by the analytic model in the order of 1 %. The proper phase noise effects for M-ary APSK modulation signals are deduced by the simulation model. Also, the required signal-to-noise ratios of phase noise are proposed for phase noise degradations, which are used as the design parameter that considers the phase noise effect.

A scheme is proposed for measuring similarities between the binary pulse signals in the pulse-code modulation using the Integra-Normalizer. The Integra-Normalizer provides a better interpretation of the relationship between the pulse signals by removing redundant codes, which maps all possible observed signals to one of the codes to be received with relative similarities between each pair of compared signals. The proposed method provides better error tolerance than L2 metric, such as Hamming distance, since the distances between pulse signals are measured not useful for the time-delay detection in the pulse-code modulation.
