  • In this study, a four-node quadrilateral partial mixed plate element with low degrees of freedom (dofs) is developed for static and free vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) plates rested on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundations. The formulation of the presented finite element model is based on a parametrized mixed variational principle which is developed recently by the first author. The presented finite element model considers the effects of shear deformations and normal flexibility of the FGM plates without using any shear correction factor. It also fulfills the boundary conditions of the transverse shear and normal stresses on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. Beside these capabilities, the number of unknown field variables of the plate is only six. The presented partial mixed finite element model has been validated through comparison with the results of the three-dimensional (3D) theory of elasticity and the results obtained from the classical and high-order plate theories available in the open literature.

  • Software piracy is widespread throughout the world. It has negative effects on the software industry and the intellectual property market. Despite various deterrent policies, the phenomenon has been getting severe. The current study investigated the antecedents of software piracy attitudes and intention. In order to identify factors and their relationship, a research model for illegal piracy behavior was developed and empirically examined through a path analysis using structural equation model. Also, this study employed a multiple group structural equation model to investigate differences in structural weights across PC software user group and smartphone application user group. It was revealed that perceived benefit, habit, social factor, self-efficacy had positive effect on attitude toward software piracy, whereas perceived risk had a decreasing influence on attitude. Relationships between piracy attitudes and intentions were significant as well. Furthermore, the cross validation between two groups showed the path coefficients of habit to attitude and attitude to intention were significantly different. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

  • We investigate logit confidence intervals for the odds ratio based on the delta method. These intervals are constructed using pseudo-Bayes estimators. The Gart method and Agresti method smooth the observed counts toward the model of equiprobability and independence, respectively. We obtain better coverage probability by smoothing the observed counts toward the pseudo-Bayes estimators in 2$\times$2 table. We also improve legit confidence intervals in 2$\times$2$\times$K tables by generalizing these ideas. Utilizing pseudo-Bayes estimators, we obtain better coverage probability by smoothing the observed counts toward the conditional independence model, no three-factor interaction model and saturated model in 2$\times$2$\times$K tables.

  • Shaking table tests were peformed to evaluate the subgrade reaction of ground according to the build-up of pore water pressure. Model pile was installed in the sand ground. The acceleration of the model ground, the pore water pressure build-up and displacement of pile were recorded by measuring devices. Subgrade reaction approach based on Winker soil model was applied to obtain the modulus of the horizontal subgrade reaction. The results of analysis show that the reduction factor of the subgrade reaction due to pore pressure increase is about 1 and the horizontal subgrade reaction of liquefied ground is not influenced by the stiffness of pile, a ground acceleration and the intial ground density.

  • Microscopic imaging system often requires the algorithm to adjust location of camera lenses automatically in machine level. An effort to detect the best focal point is naturally interpreted as a mathematical inverse problem [1]. Following Wiener's point of view [2], we interpret the focus level of images as the quantified factor appeared in image degradation model: g = $f{\ast}H+{\eta}$, a standard mathematical model for understanding signal or image degradation process [3]. In this paper we propose a simple, very fast and robust method to compare the degradation parameters among the multiple images given by introducing outlier analysis of histogram.

  • Hit judgement is essential factor in design for battle-style MMORPG game system and sets foundation for other game systems. Hit judgement model consists of attack power and attack rate. The former contains minimum, maximum, and critical attack, the latter has miss, hit, and critical blow rate. Random function generates one value of attack rate and consequently the damage is calculated. In this article, we propose hit judgement model which Is widely acceptable for generic MMORPG and describe the effort of applying the proposed model to Travia Online in detail.

  • The methods controlling the confounding factors were discussed using the data of secondary infertility with induced abortion. Mantel-Haenszel method and logistic model were applied in the analysis to find out which factors were confounding and/or effect modification variables. In the logistic analysis, the main effect of induced abortion, spontaneous abortion, age and interaction effect between induced abortion and spontaneous abortion were chosen as independent variables being regressed into logistic functions. Spontaneons abortion was interpreted as a potential confounder and at the same time potential effect modifier and age was interpreted as potential confounder. Spontaneous abortion was shown to be more important influencing factor than age to the secondary infertility. In the course of logistic analysis, the problem of parameter estimation and hypothesis testing, assessing the fitness of a model, and selection of the best model were briefly explained. For the program of logistic model, FUNCAT Procedure of SAS package was chosen.

  • Computer software has gradually become an indispensable elements in many aspects of our daily lives and an important factor in numerous systems. In recent years, it is not unusual that the software cost is more than the hardware cost in many situations. In addition to the costs of developing software, the repair cost resulting from the software failures are even more significant. In this paper, a cost model with warranty cost, time to remove each fault detected in the software system, and delivery delay cost is developed. We use a software reliability model based on non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP). We discuss the optimal release policies to minimize the expected total software cost. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the results.

  • A model, which can analyze the hydrological performance for small hydropower(SHP) plants having no flow duration characteristics has been studied and developed. System performance of existing SHP plant under operating was analyzed by using the developed model. The annual operational rate of SHP plant showed that the data were in good agreement with predicted results from the model. Based on these results, several SHP sites to be exploited were selected and the performance characteristics were analyzed by using the developed model. Also, primary design values such as design flow rate, plant capacity, and operational rate were suggested. As a result, it was found that the methodology used in this study is useful tool to predict the hydrological system performances of SHP sites.

  • In this paper a model following flight control system design using the discrete time quasi-sliding mode control method is described. The quasi-sliding mode is represented as the sliding mode band, not as the sliding surface. The quasi-sliding mode control is composed of the equivalent control for the nominal system without uncertainties and disturbances and the additive control compensating the uncertainties and disturbances. The linearized plant on the equilibrium point is used in designing a flight control system and the stability conditions are proposed for the model uncertainties. Pseudo-state feedback control which uses the model variables for the unmeasured states is proposed. The proposed method is applied to the design of the roll attitude and pitch load factor control of a bank-to-turn missile. The performance is verified through the nonlinear six degrees of freedom flight simulation.
