  • A vibration-based energy harvester and its equivalent circuit models have been reported. Most models predict voltage signals at harmonic excitation. However, vibrations in a natural environment are unpredictable in frequency and amplitude. In this paper, we propose a realistic equivalent circuit model of a frequency-up-converting impact-based piezoelectric energy harvester. It can describe the behavior of the harvester in a real environment where the frequency and the amplitude of the excitation vary arbitrarily. The simulation results of the model were compared with experimental data and showed good agreement. The proposed model can predict both the impact response and long term response in a non-harmonic excitation. The model is also very useful to analyze the performance of energy conversion circuitry with the harvester.

  • The purpose of this investigation was to study the kinematics of joints between foot segments based on computer graphic-based model during the stance phase of walking. In the model, ail joints were assumed to act as monocentric, single degree of freedom hinge joints. The motion of foot was captured by a video collection system using four cameras. The model fitted in an individual subject was simulated with this motion data. The kinematic data of tarsometatarsal joints and metatarso-phalangeal joint were quantitatively similar to the previous data. Therefore, our method using the computer graphic-based model is considered useful.

  • Construction projects have become increasingly complex in recent years, resulting in substantial safety hazards and frequent fall accidents. In an attempt to prevent fall accidents, various safety management systems have been developed. These systems have mainly been evaluated qualitatively and subjectively by practitioners or supervisors, and there are few tools that can be used to quantitatively evaluate the performance of safety management systems. We propose an expertise-based safety performance evaluation model (EXSPEM), which integrates a fuzzy approach-based analytic hierarchy process and a regression approach. The proposed model uses S-shaped curves to represent the degree of contribution by subjective expertise and is verified by a genetic algorithm. To illustrate its practical application, EXSPEM was applied to evaluate the safety performance of a newly developed real-time mobile detector monitoring system. It is expected that this model will be a helpful tool for systematically evaluating the application of a robust safety control and management system in a complex construction environment.

  • This paper presents that the modeling to predict the characteristics with respect to the performance of solenoid embedded inductors manufactured by LTCC process via the nonlinear regression model based on the quasi-Newton method. In order to reduce the runs, the design of experiments (DOE) was used to generate the design space. The nonlinear process models were constructed by the piecewise regression model based on the quasi-Newton method for estimating the model coefficient with the break point on the statistical confidence intervals. Those models were verified by the model accuracy checking based on the assumption statistically.

  • This paper presents a study on the introduction of User Model-Based Dialogue System. Also we present a plan-based Korean dialogue system as a natural language database user interface for product search. The system can be characterized by its support for mixed initiative to give user more control over dialogue, employment of user model to reflect user's preferences, alternative solution suggestion if there is no product matched exactly to user's requirements, handling circumlocution which frequently occurs in dialogues. The user modeling shell system BGP-MS is adapted for the system. The system provides for a user-friendly database user interface by managing dialogue intelligently. By its implementation and test, it has been shown that the user model-based dialogue system can be utilized effectively for product search.

  • This paper deals with the control of a nonlinear experimental helicopter system by using the fuzzy-model-based control approach. The fuzzy model of the experimental helicopter system is constructed from the original nonlinear dynamic equations in the form of an affine Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy system. In order to design a feasible switching-type fuzzy-model-based controller, the TS fuzzy system is converted to a set of uncertain linear systems, which is used as a basic framework to synthesize the fuzzy-model-based controller.

  • For the Korean Economically Active Population Survey(EAPS), we consider the composite estimator based on logistic regression model to estimate the unemployment rate for small areas(Si/Gun). Also, small area estimation technique based on hierarchical generalized linear model is proposed to include the random effect which reflect the characteristic of the small areas. The proposed estimation techniques are applied to real domestic data which is from the Korean EAPS of Choongbuk. The MSE of these estimators are estimated by Jackknife method, and the efficiencies of small area estimators are evaluated by the RRMSE. As a result, the composite estimator based on logistic model is much more efficient than others and it turns out that the composite estimator can produce the reliable estimates under the current EAPS system.

  • This paper presents the development of estimation model and control method based on the new robot vision. This proposed control method is accomplished using the sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of the rigid body in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model with six parameters is developed based on the model that generalizes known 4-axis scara robot kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. Based on the estimated parameters, depending on each camera the joint angle of robot is estimated by the iteration method. The method is experimentally tested in two ways, the estimation model test and a three-dimensional rigid body placement task. Three results show that control scheme used is precise and robust. This feature can open the door to a range of application of multi-axis robot such as assembly and welding.

  • This study proposes a web presence readiness model based on pre-payment service functions and a post-payment service function both of which embrace the major concerns of customers in the online purchasing context. Based on the concept of customer utility from the product itself and instrumental utility, the research model suggests four antecedents including, Perceived Economic Benefits, Product Search Support Quality, e-Shopping Method Diversity, and Post-Payment Support Quality. We empirically examined a proposed research model using data collected from online rating company websites. Among the four antecedents, post payment support quality is found to be the most influential determinant of customer evaluation on e-commerce websites. Based on the empirical results, the current study proposes an alternate model of web presence readiness. The findings of this study may provide an insight to field practitioners designing commercial websites. The implications and future research directions are further discussed.

  • The advancement of knowledge society has enabled the social network community (SNC) to be perceived as another space for learning where individuals produce, share, and apply content in self-directed ways. The content generated within social networks provides information of value for the participants in real time. Thus, this study proposes the social network community activity-based content model (SoACo Model), which takes SNC-based activities and embodies them within learning objects. The SoACo Model consists of content objects, aggregation levels, and information models. Content objects are composed of relationship-building elements, including real-time, changeable activities such as making friends, and participation-activity elements such as "Liking" specific content. Aggregation levels apply one of three granularity levels considering the reusability of elements: activity assets, real-time, changeable learning objects, and content. The SoACo Model is meaningful because it transforms SNC-based activities into learning objects for learning and teaching activities and applies to learning management systems since they organize activities -- such as tweets from Twitter -- depending on the teacher's intention.
