  • To cope with the explosive growth of traffic which is considered as one of the most biggest threat to current mobile communication systems, various solutions such as small cell and device-to-device communication have been exploited. Directional transmission in which transmission power of base station is focused onto the direction where the mobile station is located, can be used to increase throughput of the system. In this work, we develop a system-level simulator for cellular mobile communication systems using directional transmission and adaptive interference estimation scheme for directional transmission has been proposed. By using the developed simulator, the performance of cellular mobile communication systems with directional transmission is examined. Moreover, it is shown that the overall throughput of cellular system can be improved by utilizing directional transmission.

  • A mobile host has failure causes such as failure of the mobile host, disconnection of the mobile host, and wireless link failure that have not been seen in traditional computing environments. So far there have been few studies on fault tolerance of a mobile host in mobile computing environments. The Lazy scheme, a failure recovery technique of the mobile host, is a cost-effective one. However, this scheme has a defect that the mobile host cannot be recovered from failure of the base station with acheckpoint of the mobile host. In this paper, we propose and evaluate the Redundant Lazy scheme for performance improvement of the Lazy scheme.

  • As the research on home network technologies, sensor network technologies, and ubiquitous network technologies makes rapid progresses, wireless ad-hoc network have attracted a lot of attention. A wireless ad-hoc network is a temporary network formed by a collection of wireless mobile nodes without the aid of my existing network infrastructure or centralized administration, and it is suitable for ubiquitous computing environments. In this paper, we suggest an interconnection scheme between the wireless ad-hoc network environment based on multiple path source routing protocol and a Mobile-IP based network environment. This scheme reduces the overhead of route re-establishment and re-registration by maintaining multiple paths between the mobile host in wireless ad-hoc network and the base station in mobile-IP network. Also it puts the base station in charge of function that performs translation between wireless ad-hoc network packets and Mobile-IP packets, reducing the load of mobile hosts. In this paper, our simulations show that our scheme outperforms existing interconnecting schemes with regards to throughput and end-to-end delay Also we show that our scheme outperforms multi-paths approach using disjoint routes with regards to routing overhead.

  • Performance of TCP can be severely degraded in WLP-based Mobile IP wireless networks where packet loss not related to network congestion occurs frequently during WLP-based inter-subnetwork handoff by user mobility. To resolve such a problem in the networks using WLP-based Mobile IP, the packet buffering method recovering seamlessly the packets dropped due to user mobility has been proposed. The packet buffering method at a bridge station recovers those packets dropped during handoff by forwarding buffered packets at the old bridge station to the WLP device. But, when the WLP device moves to a congested bridge station in a new WLP foreign subnetwork, those buffered packets forwarded by the old bridge station are dropped and TCP transmission performance of a WLP device in the congested bridge station degrades due to increased congestion by those forwarded burst packets. In this paper, a PBM(Packet Bridge Marker) is proposed for preventing buffered out-of-profile(OUT) packets from reducing the throughput of in-profile(IN) packets of an Assured Service WLP device. From this operation, the packet losses of buffered OUT packets are avoided and the throughput of IN and Total packets of an AS WLP device are increased.

  • Performance of TCP can be severely degraded in Mobile IP-based wireless networks where packet losses not related to network congestion occur frequently during inter-subnetwork handoffs by user mobility. To solve such a problem in the networks using Mobile IP, the packet buffering method at a base station(BS) recovers those packets dropped during handoff by forwarding the buffered packets at the old BS to the mobile users. But, when the mobile user moves to a congested BS in a new foreign subnetwork, those buffered packets forwarded by the old BS are dropped and TCP transmission performance of a mobile user degrades severely. In this paper, we propose a Modified BLUE(MBLUE) buffer required at a BS to increase TCP throughput in Mobile IP-based networks. When a queue length exceed a threshold and congestion grows, MBLUE increases its packet drop probability. But, when a TCP connection is added at new BS by a handoff, the old BS marks the buffered packets. And new BS receives the marked packets without dropping. Simulation results show that MBLUE buffer reduces congestion during handoffs and increases TCP throughputs.

  • Mobile communication has become more pervasive and it is considered as one of main concerns oi conferencing, multi-user games and etc. in mobile environment. These applications need to secure communication in group. Most of the published protocols are based on model which consists of a stationary base station and a cluster of mobile devices. In this paper, we have focused on the extended model of which participants are several base stations and mobile devices in different cells. We present a new group key protocol among mobile devices in different cells and analyze its security And we also look at how password authentication can be used to our group key agreement protocol. The mobile device's computing load may be reduced by using password authentication.

  • The provision of location tracking for mobile agents is designed to deliver a message to a moving object in a network. Most tracking methods exploit relay stations that hold location information to forward messages to a target mobile agent. In this paper, we propose an efficient location tracking method for mobile agents using the domain-based proxy as a relay station. Mobile agents can reduce the length of their migration paths by visiting hosts in the same domain first, rather than selecting hosts randomly. The proposed method exploits the domain-based moving patterns of mobile agents and minimizes registration and message delivery costs. Since the long proxy chain can contribute to the high message delivery cost, we also propose a compressing method to reduce the message delivery cost.

  • As various smartphones users are increasing rapidly, the more contents they keep in their devices, however, the larger necessity for the effective and easy management of their files they want. To satisfy this need, we propose an integrated multimedia files management system, H5Station. By using H5Station client, users can connect to the H5Station server running on their own PC, and manage their multimedia files effectively, and enjoy every file they have. The H5Station client is developed by using HTML5 standard technology. Therefore H5Station client can run on any HTML5-supported browser. Main functions of the H5Station are as follows: configuring user settings, charting the distribution of user files, upload/download/deletion of files, synchronizing files' metadata between client and server, playing user-selected files, searching files users want, and finally creating user-customized buttons. Through these functions, users can easily find, play, and manage their multimedia contents at any place and anytime.

  • Generally in the case of mobil communication service for long distance sea, unlike heavily populated residential areas, providers need to minimize the service area per base station. Therefore, in this thesis, the 800 ㎒ CDMA system should be extended to give better long distance communication service. This model is used to predict the occurring receiving power of the mobile stations that we simulated and analyzed. As a result, the experiment demonstrated the appropriateness of predicting receiving power using this model.
