A Study on Facial Region Detection and Compression for Transmission of Mobile Avatar (모바일 아바타 전송을 위한 얼굴 영역 검출 및 압축에 관한 연구)

  • In recent times, mobile phones that play an important role in voice communication have became increasingly exciting due to the ability to transmit multimedia contents. However, user's communication cost and service usage fees for digital context exchange are still prohibitive. In this paper, we consider the task of transmitting a facial image in the context of mobile avatar generation. We present image compression as a useful technique to reduce service usage costs of data exchange in mobile communications. In view of this we propose an image compression algorithm that performs better than existing techniques. The suggested algorithm in this paper uses the location of significant coefficient on the wavelet image by detecting facial region as well as the spatial correlation between decomposed bands by wavelet transformation. The algorithm perform well and archives an efficient compression ratio. The proposed method recognizes location information of significant coefficient in advance, thus it is more suitable than existing general compression methods for mobile avatar generation systems.

  • Recently the range of mobile phone's usage has become more widely since phone has the function of data communication and voice communication. In addition, the request of users who wish to represent their identity on their mobile phones by storing some kinds of multimedia data such as images and melody has increased. There are two different methods for downloading the multimedia data; one method accesses a wireless internet server to download the data and another method downloads the data from PC directly. While the first one requires extra fee for downloading the data, the second method has weakness to modify the original data and it cannot be used in GSM phone yet since it is developed for CDMA phone. In this paper, we introduce a PC-based download application system that enables the users to download multimedia data from PC to GSM phone very easily.

  • In this paper, we developed digital TV commerce system using mobile device for multimedia service. This system combines TV and mobile device, and enables a TV viewer to purchase and download the multimedia contents such as songs and video programs onto the mobile devices instantly when the viewer watches the contents. Our system is different from the conventional TV commerce system in the sense that it combines digital TV and mobile device for better service, and the contents such as songs, videos and games are downloaded directly to the devices. Furthermore, our system's data flow is designed for utilizing cheaper network to save costs. We implemented this new service system, and in this paper, we describe the service in detail, comparing with conventional TV commerce system, and we present the architecture and preliminary implementation of the proposed system.

  • Cellular network evolution and development of multi-function cellular phones introduce new mobile business mode. Cellular operators provide mobile internet services using the mobile browser such as ME and WAP and the mobile multimedia platform such as WIPI, J2ME, and BREW. New mobile applications are developed using mobile platforms provided by cellular operators as cellular phones having multimedia solutions such as camera, MP3, MPEG, 3D game engine, DMB, PAN such as bluetooth, IrDA, W-LAN, and location information using GPS are developed. Content providers have problems of redevelopment of a mobile application for different mobile platforms. In this paper, we propose a conversion solution for interoperability of applications developed on different mobile platforms of WIPI and BREW. We analyze APIs of WIPI and BREW and develop conversion solutions.

  • In this paper, we design a transmission / receiver structure to provide additional data service based on Mobile MMT in hybrid network environment. Mobile MMT is an extended standard of MMT, the next generation multimedia transmission protocol. MMT defines technologies for efficiently transmitting multimedia and supporting various types of data transmission and bidirectional services over heterogeneous networks based on IP. The Mobile MMT further defines the extended functions to provide functions specific to the mobile network based on the existing MMT technology. In this paper, we design and propose a additional data service scenario and additional data transmission / receiver structure that can receive additional data related to contents delivered through broadcasting network and additional data such as traffic, weather, traveler information related to user information.

  • Rapid advances in mobile computing and the availability of wireless communications will soon provide mobile users with the ability to access data regardless of the location of the user or of the data. SRA(Static Replica Allocation) that is traditional scheme has been used for the replication method on the server. This replicates the data on the replica server after a moving host has been transferred to the cell. This strategy is simple and can easily relocate data. However, if a mobile user does not exist in the cell, the replicated data can be deleted in order to maintain data consistency. In addition to, if the mobile host leaves from replicated cell, it is difficult to access data in terms of replication route. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method of relocation based on data consistency strategy called USRAC(User Selection Replica Allocation based on Consistency) and also analyzes access cost according to the moving rate of mobile users, according to the access rate of mobile hosts, and according to the number of cells of mobile users and mobile hosts.

  • In consideration of the rapid changes in the so-called information society of the $21^{st}$ century, about 80% of a total population in Korea has used the Internet. However, the social effect of the Internet and related devices has not been yet systematically studied in the literature. In healthcare as well, consumers' efficient use of the Internet for their positive health outcomes is becoming an issue. The purpose of this study was to analyze the medical subject headings keywords of the selected studies on consumers' use of Internet and mobile health information. For the analysis, social network analysis was used to provide basic information to present directions for future research on the field of interest.

  • Next generation telematics technology, offering new and diverse multimedia service by connecting car and wireless access network, has been presented with promising industry. Telematics technology was simply to monitor and control the in-vehicle devices and to navigate the road in the early days but nowadays, telematics technology has provided the mobile internet access service, LBS service, agent rescue service and multimedia service to us using connection of wireless access network. In this paper, telematics mobile platform architecture is proposed for service promotion and efficiency.

Resource Allocation for Guaranteeing QoE in Mobile Communication Networks

  • This paper proposes a novel resource allocation scheme which allows to guarantee the user-perceived service quality for various high-quality mobile multimedia service such as interactive game, tactile internet service, remote emergency medical service or remote disaster handling robot control to a certain level in the mobile networks. In our proposed scheme, Mean Opinion Score(MOS), which represents the degree of user satisfaction for perceived quality, is determined based on the delay limit allowable to each service. Moreover resources are allocated in consideration of this MOS. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme can decrease the outage probability in comparison with existing schemes Moreover it can increase the total throughput as well.

  • In this paper, an application layer protocol between sewer and client is proposed for mobile on-line contents in heterogeneous distributed environments. The proposed protocol guarantees the global state consistency in the distributed environments and controls the flow of communication. The protocol reduces the overhead of handsets for flow control and does not need to maintain state information for contents. CPs, by using the proposed sealable protocol, can easily develop their contents as application processes.
