Can Coupon Holding Duration and Message Framing Increase the Effect of Push Notifications on Mobile Coupon Redemption? Evidence from A Randomized Field Experiment

  • We propose a mobile coupon strategy designed to increase the effect of push notifications on redemption. The proposed strategy recommends that firms deliver mobile coupons with distant expiration dates and remind them through push notifications framed negatively once these expiration dates become imminent, rather than frequently sending coupons with near expiration dates. We test the effectiveness of the proposed strategy using data collected through a randomized field experiment. The findings indicate that push notifications enhance coupon redemption rates for coupons that are held longer by customers than those that are recently received. Additionally, we found that sending negatively framed push notification messages to remind customers of imminent coupon expiration dates further resulted in higher coupon redemption rates. The findings can be employed to offer useful guidance on how to effectively design mobile coupons for achieving higher redemption rates.

The Effects of Characteristics of Mobile Coupon Service on Consumers' Intention of Using Mobile Coupons (모바일 쿠폰서비스의 특성이 소비자의 쿠폰이용의도에 미치는 영향과 자기해석의 조절효과에 관한 연구)

  • The recent economic recession and price rise reduces excessive consumption as a whole. So companies take more interest in and use discount coupons as a means of sales promotion to reinforce their competitiveness. The combination of Internet and mobile communication technology leads to an explosive increase in the use of mobile Internet service, which promotes commercialization of mobile coupons. Nevertheless, there are absolutely insufficient researches on mobile coupons than those on paper ones. In this context, this study tries to consider intention of accepting and using mobile coupons. The innovated Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used to see factors of using mobile coupons considered important by customers. Through the combination of characteristics of mobile coupon service and values obtained from mobile coupons, effects of variables to enhance intention of using mobile coupons were empirically analyzed. In particular, this study suggested importance of psychological as well as economic values of mobile coupons and emphasized good considerations of the psychological aspect, such as shame, stinginess, and reputation sensitivity, in using mobile coupons as an important factor for intention of using the coupons. Another empirical analysis was made of what moderating roles consumers' self-construalplayed in the effects of mobile coupon values perceived by consumers on intention of using coupons. As a result, immediate connectivity and situational provision among characteristics of mobile coupon service were found to affect ease and usability. It was also shown that perceived ease and usability had significant effects on both economic and psychological values, which then had significant effects on intention of using a mobile system. After testing moderating effects of self-construal, the degree of effects of perceived mobile coupon values on intention of using mobile coupons was greater among inter-dependent self-construal users than among independent ones. This study considered various schemes of improving intention to use mobile coupons and provided a foundation to help companies make a strategy for mobile coupons to be activated in the future.

  • Cloud computing, which means a new way of deploying information technology(IT) in organizations as a service and charging per use, has a deep impact on organizations' IT accessibility, agility and efficiency of its usage. More than that, the emergence of cloud computing surpasses a mere technological innovation, making business model innovation possible. We call this innovation realized by could computing a cloud business model. This study develops a comprehensive framework of business model, first, and then defines and analyzes the cloud business model through this framework. This study also examines the case of M-Pesa mobile payment as a cloud business model in which a new value creation and profit realization schemes have been realized and industry value network has changed. Finally, this study discusses the business implications from this new business model.

Design and Implementation of MAC Protocol for Underwater Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (수중 모바일 애드 혹 네트워크를 위한 MAC 프로토콜 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose a MAC(Media Access Control) protocol based on flexible RWT(RTS Waiting Time) for underwater mobile ad-hoc networks with a three-way handshaking mechanism. This protocol can solve a problem of collision between RTS(Request-To-Send) and CTS(Clear-To-Send) packets in existing MACA(Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) protocol. This proposed MAC protocol is also an effective protocol which can apply to underwater mobile ad-hoc networks in a real field by using implementable technologies. We set flexible RTS Waiting Time called RWT, considering various characteristics of underwater environment. It is possible to support variable network size according to node mobility. Finally, we conduct a performance evaluation between proposed MAC protocol and existing MACA based MAC protocol through practical implementation and experiment. As a result, we verify the superiority of our proposed MAC protocol in terms of throughput, packet drop rate, average transmission time, energy consumption and channel utilization.

  • Advanced ICT Technologies support the chance for success in business however there are challenges that should be overcome in messenger development and the overcoming challenges will be a base line for succession in business. In this paper, we identify the characteristics of mobile messengers and evaluate users' preferences using AHP. As a result, we evaluated the critical success factors which are important in mobile messenger development. The results of AHP were generated 0.098 consistency ratio(CR). When the result is less than 0.1 in CR, the result could be accepted as trusted questions. The priority of factors was security(1.409), entertainment(0.19), communication (0.187) then this shows the users concerned in security and entertainment. These are not only development's success factors but also a good milestone to check ICT trends for setting up business chances.

  • This study is based on previous studies on the various types of games and analyse the effects of the characteristics of mobile social network games on online word-of-mouth of game users. As a result, it was revealed that commitment increased because of the features of not needing to access continuously, not interrupted by reciprocal relationship among users, a particular time and place. However, in the process of the interaction with the media, perceived individual social presence and asynchrony that did not need to continue to access, they did not affect satisfaction and respectively. In addition, this commitment had more effects on online word-of-mouth than satisfaction. Comprehensive the above, the research achievement of this study may be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of future domestic mobile social network game industry.

  • This study highlight the role of perceived cost on user's continuance intention to use mobile TV service in china. We proposed research model based on the expectation-confirmation model(ECM) and reclaim 243 questionnaires from experienced users in china. Above all, the analysis results support significant relationship perceived variables, satisfaction, and continuance intention of mobile TV. First, while expectation confirmation has positive influence on perceived playfulness and satisfaction, the effect on perceived usefulness is not significant. Second, perceived cost can significantly predict perceived usefulness and satisfaction, however, we found no evidence of a statistically significant influence on perceived playfulness. Third, perceived usefulness and perceived playfulness have a positive influence on satisfaction, and perceived usefulness, satisfaction, and perceived playfulness have a positive influence on continuance intention. This results provide implications from both theoretical and managerial perspectives and the limitations have been discussed for future research.

  • A central theme in recent IT (information technology) industry is a mobile ecosystem. While a concept of business ecosystem, which is an economic community of firms and individuals producing and consuming goods and services, has been around for about 20 years now, the recent spotlight is mainly caused by the enormous success of iPhone. Many hand-set makers or platform developers want to mimic Apple's iPhone ecosystem from which both application developers and hand-set users can benefit. In this study, a representation model of the business ecosystem is proposed for supporting systematic design and analysis of ecosystems. Whereas previous studies also proposed some representation models, they emphasized only on the value chain between participating players. The proposed model, which is named relation-based ecosystem model, represents an ecosystem with the requirement relationships between product and service components and the roles of players, as well as their value chain. Such comprehensive representation explicitly reveals the strategic difference between ecosystems. This advantage was illustrated by comparing a Korean traditional mobile ecosystem and an emerging smart-phone ecosystem represented by the proposed model.

  • We empirically show that the effect of mobile EMR's technological characters on system qualities and user satisfaction. For the study, the relationship among technological characters of mobile, EMR's system quality, EMR's information quality, and user satisfaction were modelled and validated with hypotheses. An empirical test was performed for a path model using structural equation modeling on samples of 148 nurses in hospitals from various size and region. This study find that, for the overall sample, there are positive relationships among the technological characters of mobile, EMR's system quality, EMR's information quality, and user satisfaction. And the results support that mobile is an effective method for EMR. Findings of this study have several theoretical and practical implications as follows : First, this study empirically tested the relationship among technological characters of mobile, EMR's system quality, EMR's information quality. Second, the study shows that the technological characters of mobile should be considered for advance of EMR system's quality in mobile environment. And lastly, this study can practically suggest mobile healthcare information system for process effectiveness.
