  • This study is about the armors that high navy officers of Joseon wore during the period of Japanese invasion of Korea(1592~1598). The kinds of armors that these officers wore during this period are Sueungap, cheolgap, pigap, jigap and myeongap. Sueungap, cheolgap, pigap are all described in literatures, which were released in that period and the early Joseon period. According to publications that were released during that period, Yuyeopgap was a type of an iron armor. Armors that are recorded in only literatures published in the early Joseon period include swaejagap, gyeongbeongap, dujeonggap, hwangdongdujeonggap and dudumigap. Myeongap is found only in publications that were made in the above war time. The styles of armors are largely classified into chalgap and dujeonggap. The chalgap-styled armors used gapchal as their main component. Dujeonggap-styled armors used fabrics and dujeong. The names and the manufacturing methods of the gapchal did not changed since its creation in the early Joseon period until the above wartime. But, their shapes were considerably changed between the two times. This is clearly shown in armors that were found in the moat of the Dongrae-eup fortress. Dujeonggap-styled armors that were used during the period of the Japan-Korea war were a successor to those of dujeonggap-styled armors of the early Joseon period. But the former armors were different from the latter in that they had no gapchal inside. They are well represented by Jeong Chung Sin's armor.

  • This study is aimed to evaluate the embedment effect of foundation as compared to the surface foundation on the response of a base-isolated nuclear power plant structure. For this purpose, the boundary reaction method (BRM), which is a two-step frequency domain and time domain technique, is used for the nonlinear SSI analysis considering nonlinear behavior of base isolators. The numerical model of the BRM is verified by comparing the numerical results obtained by the BRM and the conventional frequency-domain SSI analysis for an equivalent linear SSI system. Finally, the displacement response of the base isolation and the horizontal response of the structure obtained by the nonlinear SSI analysis using the moat foundation model are compared with those using the surface foundation model. The comparison showed that the displacement response of the base isolation can be reduced by considering the embedment effect of foundation.

  • OGC(Open GIS Consortium) suggests the 'OpenGIS Simple Feature Specification for CORBA' which is the OpenGIS implementation specification for CORBA to specify standard interfaces for reuse and interoperation among distributed heterogeneous GIS resources in the CORBA distributed computing environment. An OpenGIS server that supports this implementation specification moat correctly implement all interfaces defined in the OpenGIS implementation specification to be interoperable with wrapped GISs efficiently. In this paper, we have designed and implemented an OpenGIS server based an object relational GIS, called GEUS that integrates GIS and database technologies to provide spatial data types and spatial operators from the DBMS engine level. In the CORBA distributed computing environment, clients can access geospatial data stored in GIS wrapped by the OpenGIS server through the standard interfaces defined in the OpenGIS implementation specification for CORBA. In addition, clients can use geospatial operation features provided by a back-end GIS and interoperate with other GISs.

  • The root pile system is insitu soil reinforcement technique that uses a series of reticulately installed micropiles. In terms of mechanical improvement by means of grouted reinform ming elements, the root pile system is similar to the soil nailing system. The main difference between root piles and soil nailing are due to the fact that the reinforcing bars in root piles are normally grouted under high pressure and that the alignments of the reinforcing members differ. Recently, the root pile system has been broadly used to stabilize slopes and retain excavations. The accurate design of the root pile system is, however, a very difficult tass owing to geometric variety and statical indetermination, and to the difficulty in the soilfiles interaction analysis. As a result, moat of the current design methods have been heavily dependent on the experiences and approximate approach. This paper proposes a quasi-three dimensional method of analysis for the root pile system applied to the stabilization of slopes. The proposed methods of analysis include i) a technique to estimate the change in borehole radium as a function of the grout pressure as well as a function of the time when the grout pressure is applied, ii) a technique to evaluate quasi -three dimensional limit-equilibrium stability for sliding, iii) a technique to predict the stability with respect to plastic deformation of the soil between adjacent root piles, and iv) a quasi -three dimensional finite element technique to compute stresses and dis placements of the root pile structure barred on the generalized plane strain condition and composite unit cell concept talon형 with considerations of the group effect and knot effect. By using the proposed technique to estimate the change in borehole radius as a function of the grout pressure as well as a function of the time, the estimations are made and compar ed with the Kleyner 8l Krizek's experimental test results. Also by using the proposed quasi-three dimensional analytical method, analyses have been performed with the aim of pointing out the effects of various factors on the interaction behaviors of the root pile system.

  • In this paper, 2513 marine casualties occurred in Korean waters, during 1989-1993, were analysed by the Multivariate Data Analysis Method. The main results obtained were as follows : 1. Moat of marine casualties resulted from the human factors such as careless operation and insufficient engine maintenance. Engine trouble accounted for main patten of accidents and great number of accidents occurred in fishing vessels. 2. From the point of view of the damage of human life and properties, accidents took place in cargo ships, passenger ships and tankers were serious, but in fishing vessels, those were not so serious. 3. Grounding, collision mainly resulted from careless operation, however flooding and capsizing were much affected by bad weather and material defect.

  • For several years, we have conducted a series of studies on the patterns of ancient parasitism prevailing in the soil of rural and urban areas of past Kingdom of Korea. Actually, during our survey of paleoparasitology in archaeological sites of Korean peninsula, numerous ancient parasite eggs were discovered in the samples from the city districts of Hansung (Joseon) and Buyeo (Baikje), the palace moat at Gyeongju (Silla), shell-midden site at Bonghwang-dong (Silla to Joseon), and the reservoir found in Hwawangsansung fortress (Silla). By the paleoparasitological studies, with respect to parasitism in the high-density populations of ancient towns and cities, we have managed to catch glimpses of the patterns prevalent therein: a serious parasitic contamination of the soil in ancient urban areas, but not in rural areas of the past. Our historical research also proposed the plausible mechanism of parasite infection very serious indeed among urban populations in Korean history. Although city dwelling doubtless has accrued significant benefits for people and populations with agriculture, it can be equally supposed that living in such highly populated areas might have facilitated the spread of parasite infection.

  • Square-shaped moated burial precincts(方形周溝墓) can be classified into type I that has bridges only at the comers, type II that has bridges at the comers and sides, type III that has bridges only at the sides, type IV that is surrounded by the moat without bridges, type V that has its sides less than those of type I ~ V by 1 or 2, and type VI that has the round-shaped ground. But the time differences among the types are not known yet. For the burial appliances of square-shaped moated burial precincts, there are stone coffins, pit burials and jar burials. The major burial appliances situated in the mound are stone coffins and pit burials, and jar burials are subsidiary appliances that were buried at the shoulder part of the mound or at precincts. According to the case of Gwanchang-ri KM423, grave mounds, which arc closely related with the burial appliances, were built by heaping up the earth in and around the precinct as low as only enough to protect the burial appliances. Considering the relics unearthed in the burial compartment of KM437, the time when square-shaped moated burial precincts were formed is estimated to be the age when Songguk-ri type earthenware and clay stripes earthenware co-existed. It was the early Iron Age when ironware began to sp read in this country. Emerging first in that age, square-shaped moated burial precincts were presumably formed until around the end of BC or the beginning of AD, when KM404 and KM423, which were unearthed with plain earthenware, grey earthenware and ironware, were formed. When analyzing the form of small-sized graveyards in precincts, the unearthed relics and the locations, the people who formed square-shaped moated burial precincts were considered as those who had a culture comprising clay stripes earthenware, which appears newly in the Songguk-ri type earthenware of native, and ironware, and a settled agricultural society based on paddy fields and labor forces of family units.

  • In this paper, the effect of alkaline oxides on the humidity sensitivity of $V_2O_{5}$(2mol%)-doped $TiO_2$(98mol%) was investigated as functions of $Li_{2}Co_{3}$, $Na_{2}Co_{3}$. III-1. Measurement of Density. When the mole% of $Li_2$O is varied 0,1,2,5mol%, the more the mole% of additives is increased, the more difference of bulk and apparent density is largely narrowed. The difference of two densities of sample containing 2mol% $Na_2O$ was large all the moat. The sample containing 1mol% $Na_2O$ was small most. III-2. Observation of porosity. The porosity and total intrusion volume according to various amounts of $Li_2O$ was reduced and those of sample containing 2mol% $Na_2O$ as 31.13%, 0.1155mL/g was the highest and 1mol% $Na_2O$ was lowed most and 5, 10mol% $Na_2O$ was more high compare with sample without alkaline oxides. III-3. Characteristic of humidity sensitivity. 1. Impedance of samples containing $Li_2O$ was high compare with sample without alkaline oxides, so we thought it showed Poor sensitivity because it have no impedance changing rapidly as function of relative humidity. 2. When the humidity was increasing from 30RH% to 90RH%, the impedance of sample containing 2mol% $Na_2O$ at 120HZ changed exponential rapidly from 6${\times}$$10^{7}$$\Omega$) to 1.25${\times}$$10^4$$\Omega$. At under 50RH% and over 50RH%, the humidity sensitivity of samples containing 2mol% $Na_2O$ was best especially in the range of the low humidity. III-4. Characteristic of TG curves. When algal me oxide $M_{2}CO_{3}$(M=Li, Na) were added into $V_{2}O_{5}$-doped $TiO_2$, the stability of humidity sensitivity of samples containing amounts of $Li_2O$ was unstable. The samples containing 1mol% $Na_2O$ was unstable.

  • In order to find out the decomposing factors of Sumithion in mineral diluents, the physical and chemical properties of the diluents such as talcs, bentonites, diatomaceous earth and other clay minerals was studied in relation to the decomposition rate of Sumithion in dust formulations. The total base, moisture adsorption capacity, pH, specific surface, water contents, active $Fe^{++}$, ignition loss and cation exchange capacity were analysed as the properties of mineral diluents, and these properties were correlated with the stability of Sumithion in dust formulations. And in hope of finding out the main factors among those properties of diluents, the decomposed products of Sumithion in dust formulations prepared with standard Sumithion were separated by the methods of column chromatography and investigated by thin layer chromatography. The following results were otbained; 1. The total base, moisture adsorption capacity, specific surface, water contents, active $Fe^{++}$ and cation exchange capacity of mineral diluents were found to be highly effective on the rate of decomposition of Sumithion in dust formulations. 2. Decomposed products of Sumithion in dust formulations were found to be dimethylphosphorothionate, 3-methyl-4-nitro phenol and its derivatives. And one fraction was not dissolved in n-hexane and ethylether, but was soluble in methylalcohol and ethylalcohol. 3. The moat highly correlated properties of diluents with the decomposition rate of Sumithion in dust were found to be the total base and water contents. 4. In regard to the kind of diluents, it was found that the rate of decomposition of Sumithion in dust formulations was higher in order of bentonite, diatomaceous earth, kaolin and talc.
