Even Harmonic Mixer를 이용한 2.4GHz ISM band용 Direct Conversion방식의 RF Module 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of Direct Conversion RF Module using Even Harmonic Mixer for 2-4GHz ISM band)

  • In this paper, 2.4GHz RF Module using Even Harmonic Mixer(EHM) was designed and fabricated for Direct conversion(DC) system. By minimizing performance degradation of DC system with DC offset and LO radiation, the capability of minimization and one chip solution in wireless system was proposed. The designed EHM using anti-parallel diode pair represented 9dB conversion loss and about -60dBm 2LO leakage radiation in RF port, and output reflection and reverse transmission characteristic of low noise amplifier was improved. So superior DC offset suppression characteristic is expected. RF Module which consists of EHM, LNA, RF amplifier, Frequency synthesizer and Duplexer was designed and fabricated.

  • In this paper, a DBM(double balanced mixer) of 2 GHz is implemented on FR4(h=1.6mm, ${\epsilon}_r=4.6$) substrate. The structure of double balanced mixer requires, in general, two talons and a quad diode. For balun, a novel planar balun using microstrip to CPS(Coplanar Strip) is suggested and designed. The suggested balun shows the phase imbalance of $180^{\circ}{\pm}1.5^{\circ}$ and the amplitude imbalance of ${\pm}0.2 dB$ for 1.5 to 2.5 GHz. Using the balun, DBM is successfully implemented, and the measured conversion loss of up/down converter show about 6 dB over the bandwidth. The balun may be applicable for MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) DBM with the process supporting backside via though more study.

  • In this work, we have designed Gilbert cell downconversion mixer using 0.25um Anam CMOS process, we also have analyzed Conversion gain and IIP3 using Taylor series in our own unique way. Especially, bulk terminal is used as LO( Local Oscillator) input for reduction of power consumption and supply voltage. Supply voltage used in this design is lower than 1.8V and core current is less than 500uA. The simulation experiments showed that the conversion gain, IIP3, and power consumption were -1 dB, 4.46dBm, and 0.8mW, respectively.

  • Gauss-Jacobi relaxation 方法으로부터 非線形 마이크로波 回路解析 알고리듬을 薄出하고, Harmonic Balance 技法을 應用하여 갈륨비소 쇼트키 障壁 다이오드를 이용한 混合器의 非線形 및 線形 回路解析 方法을 提示하였다. 本 硏究에서의 解析方法으로부터 마이크로波 混合器의 變換損失을 正確히 豫測하고, 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션으로부터 MMIC設計에 有用함을 보였다. 寬察로 Ku-밴드用 混合器를 MIC로 設計, 製作하여 시뮬레이션 結果의 妥當性을 立證하였다.

A MB-OFDM UWB 0.18-μm CMOS RF Front-End Receiver

  • An RF front-end dual-conversion receiver for $3{\sim}5\;GHz$ MB-OFDM UWB systems is implemented in $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The receiver includes a two-stage UWB LNA, an RF mixer, an IF I/Q mixer, and a frequency synthesizer. The proposed receiver adopts the dual-conversion architecture to mitigate the burden of design of the frequency synthesizer. Accordingly, the proposed frequency synthesizer generates four LO tones from only one VCO. The receiver front-end achieves power gain of 16.3 to 21 dB, NF of 7 to 7.6 dB over $3{\sim}5\;GHz$, and IIP3 of -21 dBm, while consuming 190 mW from a 1.8 V supply.

Design of a New Harmonic Noise Frequency Filtering Down-Converter in InGaP/GaAs HBT Process

  • An InGaP/GaAs MMIC LC VCO designed with Harmonic Noise Frequency Filtering(HNFF) technique is presented. In this VCO, internal inductance is found to lower the phase noise, based on an analytic understanding of phase noise. This VCO directly drives the on-chip double balanced mixer to convert RF carrier to IF frequency through local oscillator. Furthermore, final power performance is improved by output amplifier. This paper presents the design for a 1.721 GHz enhanced LC VCO, high power double balance mixer, and output amplifier that have been designed to optimize low phase noise and high output power. The presented asymmetric inductance tank(AIT) VCO exhibited a phase noise of -133.96 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset and a tuning range from 1.46 GHz to 1.721 GHz. In measurement, on-chip down-converter shows a third-order input intercept point(IIP3) of 12.55 dBm, a third-order output intercept point(OIP3) of 21.45 dBm, an RF return loss of -31 dB, and an IF return loss of -26 dB. The RF-IF isolation is -57 dB. Also, a conversion gain is 8.9 dB through output amplifier. The total on-chip down-converter is implanted in 2.56${\times}$1.07 mm$^2$ of chip area.

Design of a 170 GHz Notch Filter for the KSTAR ECE Imaging Sensor Application

  • A planar, light-weight, and low-cost notch filter structure is required for the KSTAR ECEI (Electron Cyclotron Emission Imaging) system to protect the mixer arrays from spurious plasma heating power. Without protection, this heating power can significantly degrade or damage the performance of the mixer array. To protect mixer arrays, a frequency selective surface (FSS) structure is the suitable choice as a notch filter to reject the spurious heating power. The FSS notch filter should be located between the lenses of the ECEI system. This paper presents a 170 GHz FSS notch filter for the KSTAR ECEI sensor application. The design of such an FSS notch filter is based on the single-sided square loop geometry, because that makes it relatively insensitive to the incident angle of incoming wave. The FSS notch filter exhibits high notch rejection with low pass-band insertion loss over a wide range of incident angles. This paper also reviews the simulated and measured results. The proposed FSS notch filter might be implemented in other millimeter-wave plasma devices.

혼합 개선을 위한 Y-채널 마이크로 믹서의 최적설계 (Optimum Design of a Y-channel Microcmixer for Enhanced Mixing)

  • Effective mixing plays a crucial role in microfluidics for biochemical applications. Owing to the small device scale and its entailing the low Reynolds number, the mixing in microchannels proceeds very slowly. In this work, we optimize the configuration of obstacles in the Y-channel mixer in order to attain maximum mixing efficiency. Before the optimum design, mixing characteristics are investigated using unstructured grid CFD method. Then, the analysis method is employed to construct the approximate analysis model to be used in the optimization procedure. The main optimization tool in the present work is sequential quadratic programming method. Using this approximate optimization procedure, we may obtain the optimum layout of obstacles in the Y-channel mixer in an efficient manner, which gives the maximum mixing efficiency.

날개형상이 프로펠러형 수중믹서의 성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Effect of Blade Shapes on the Performance of the Propeller-type Submersible Mixers)

  • In this research, the performance predictions of the submersible mixer were investigated. The variation of the performance characteristics by changing the impeller design parameters were discussed through the flow calculation results by using a commercial program, FLUENT. The performance of the submersible mixers is related to the velocity diffusion profiles downstream of the impeller and also the required input motor power to mix the fluid. In this study, the various design parameters such as the number of blade, the hub and tip diameters, the impeller blade profiles and revolution speed of the blades were taken for the fixed values. The blade sweep direction, the chord length distribution along with the radius of the blade and the inlet blade angle were changed to make different testing models. The flow calculation results show the effect of the changed design parameters on the performance of the submersible mixers and also give some helpful information for designing more efficient submersible mixers.

  • In the low pressure selective catalytic reduction (LP SCR) system, the uniformity of both ammonia concentration and exhaust gas flow at the SCR catalyst layer are important design factor for the efficient SCR-deNOx performance. According to the shape of the guide vane and static mixer, numerical simulations were conducted to analyze flow patterns and finally to find out the appropriate alternative for uniform flow at the front of catalyst in the real scale LP SCR reactor. The variations of gas velocity and ammonia concentration were quantitatively evaluated. Based on the present results, the shape was devised to satisfy the design criteria.
