This article introduces recent trends in RHC (Receding Horizon Control), also known as MPC (Model Predictive Control), that has been well recognized in industry and academy as a systematic approach for optimal design and constraint management. Constrained and robust RHCs will be briefly reviewed with milestone results. Among the diverse developments and achievements of RHCs, implementation issues will be focused on, together with the latest applications. In particular, this article introduces results on how to solve a finite horizon open-loop optimal control problem in an efficient way, together with code generation for real-time execution and easy implementation. Instead of traditional applications such as refineries and petrochemical plants, this article highlights some selected emerging applications, such as energy management systems and mechatronics, that have resulted from state-of-the-art high performance computing power and advanced numerical schemes.

A program for initial blank design in sheet forming which contains the capabilities of forward loading simulation by the finite element method and backward tracking simulation has been developed and proved the effectiveness by applying to a square cup stamping process. In the blank design of square cup stamping the backward tracing program can produce an optimum blank configuration which forms a sound net-shape cup produce without machining after forming. Another general application appears in the blank design of a cup stamping with protruding flanges one of typical automobile components. The blank configurations derived by backward tracing simulation have been confirmed by a series of loading simulations. The approach for decision of an initial blank configuration presented in this study will be a milestone in fields of sheet forming process design.

This paper revisited the key advances on System Dynamics modeling about traditional macro-economic models and economic growth structures, and then tries to elaborate a new model based on the endogenous growth theory that incorporates new growth factors, relevant to knowledge/technology as well as the Environment, into traditional growth models. Accordingly, the new model augments the acceleration and multiplier loops and the balancing ones representing market clearing mechanism with a simple numerical example. The authors thus provides macroeconomic System Dynamics analysts with a milestone to model macro-economic structures reflecting on traditional and cutting-edge theories on sustainable economic growth and general equilibrium modeling.

This article explores what is the genuine Koreanness in Korean arithmetic by examining what kind of influence the Chinese arithmetic had on the Korean arithmetic and how the Korean arithmetic scholars had accepted and utilized it. Because the main stream of Korean culture before the end of Chosun dynasty was located under the umbrella of the Chinese philosophy, technique, and culture, it is necessary to make researches on the historical documents and materials in order to establish the milestone in the Korean arithmetic history for the Korean arithmetic scholars. For this research, the arithmetic books published in between the sixteenth century and the end of Chosun dynasty are mainly consulted and discussed, dealing with the bibliographical introduction in the arithmetic Part in Re Outline History of the Korean Science & Technology written by Prof. Yong-Woon Kim.

Statistics was not recognized until the early 20th century as an independent science, and statistical education research came to an international milestone in the late 1940s. The purpose of this study is to investigate the historical development of statistics education research, focusing on the activities of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE). Statistics education in Korea is considered with regard to the history of international research on statistics education in this study. It implies for the direction of statistical education research to domestic mathematics education researchers and statistical researchers related to statistical education research.

Rising from a supine position to erect stance is an important milestone in treatment of patients with neurologic dysfunction. The purposes of this study wed to describe the movement patterns that hemiplegic patients use when rising to a standing. position and to investigate whether movement patterns that an proposed to treat of functional activity, Seventeen patients were videotaped performing three trials of rising. Movement patterns were described with three body components : upper extremities, head-trunk, lower extremities. Subjects rose most commonly using a push and reach pattern of the upper extremities-symmetrical interrupted by rotation pattern in the head-trunk-an asymmetrical squat pattern in the lower extremities and a push and reach pattern of the upper extremities-symmetrical interrupted by rotation pattern in the head-trunk-an symmetrical squat with balance step pattern in the lower extremities.

If the Seoul-Pusan high-speed rail project is able to open its revenue service in 2004, Korea will be the fifth country with an HSR system in the world. And, it will be recorded as a major milestone in the transportation history of Korea. But, Government regulated railroad fare because railroad fare increase can bring negative influences to CPI(Consumer Price Index). Consequently, Korea National Railroad cannot afford to operate railroad independently under current railroad fare system. In this paper, we studied the railroad fare system under implementation and its influences to CPI. And then we proposed that railroad fare must be decided by competition with other transportation modes and based on the demand variance by introducing YMS(Yield Management System).

Most payments in domestic construction are issued in lumpsum unit price contracts according to the completed construction rate. This method generates problems in losing time and increased costs for the owner and contactor. In overseas projects, payments are issued in accordance to completed milestones. The milestones themselves base on the original schedule and allow effective schedule management on the tasks. In domestic construction, however, introduction of milestone payments requires enhanced management capability of owners and contractors. Hence, this study investigating how to activate schedule management devices to analyze progress payments in domestic construction.

The release of IEEE 802.15.4 PHY-MAC standard represents a milestone in developing of commercial wireless sensor network pursuing low power and low cost. In this paper, IEEE 802.15.4 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol was analysed at the point of power consumption. This analysis measured the amount of the rest of power after transmitting data with beacon enabled mode and the power consumption of each node in the time period. ns-2 simulation is used to verify the analysis.

This paper is to review the conclusions of the Athens conference that has so far contributed to the conservation world. It is normally called the conclusions of the Athens conference as the Athens charter. But the conclusions of the Athens are not as same as the Athens Charter regarding the contents. The former had more valuable contents than the latter regarding historic monuments. And the report of the Athens conference including 56 articles and 500 pages with 55 photos was published in 1933 by the International Museums Office. But little attention has been given to the report of the Athens conference. Therefore the point I want to make is to review to the report in order to understand the agenda of the conference and to examine the Anastylosis in Acropolis. In conclusion, these agendas and the articles in the report show us that the conference was sort of milestone with some advanced modern philosophical and technical concepts about conservation and restoration of historic monuments. Also when the term of anastylosis turns to reconstruction in archaeological sites, we are going to face with the problems of authenticity.
