An efficient synthesis of 1,5-Benzothiazepines via Michael addition of corresponding (E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-(phenylthio)phenyl)prop-2-en-1-one is described under ultrasound irradiation. A series of novel 2-((E)-2,3-dihydro-2-(4-(phenylthio)phenyl)benzo[b][1,4]thiazepin-4-yl)phenol derivatives was confirmed on the basis of $^1H$ NMR, Mass, IR spectral data and Elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activities. Most of the compounds were found to be comparable potent than the reference standard drugs. Utilization of ultrasound irradiation, simple reaction conditions, isolation, and purification makes this manipulation very interesting from an economic and environmental perspective.
Acrylamidomethylated cellulose(AMC) was prepared by a reaction of N-methy-lolacrylamide(NMA) in the presence of acid catalyst, and pendent C=C double bonds are created on cellulose. Using the pendant double bonds as a site for Michael addition, a number of modified cellulose could be readily prepared. When AMC is treated in an aqueous solution containing sodium dihydrogen phospate and methylamine, the chemical structure of cellulose is represented as follow ; Cell-O-$CH_{2}$-NHCO-$CH_{2}$-$CH_{2}$-NHMe. Therefore in this paper, dyeing properties of modified cellulose for the acid dye were investigated.
Two biopolymers, silk fibroin (SF) and chitosan, were conjugated by tyrosinase (EC 1.14.18.1), a polyphenolic oxidase, to improve their physicochemical properties, such as their thermal properties and morphological stabilities in organic solvents. The crosslinking between SF and chitosan took place mainly through Michael addition reactions. A main reaction between the amino groups in chitosan and o-quinone, the oxidation product of the tyrosyl residue in SF, was confirmed by UV spectroscopy. Measurements of viscosity and light scattering indicated that the crosslinked SF/chitosan conjugate was compact: it had a smaller particle size because of tight bonding forces between the SF and chitosan molecular chains. Thermal decomposition of SF/chitosan conjugates crosslinked by tyrosinase occurred at higher temperatures. The adhesiveness of the SF/chitosan conjugates decreased steadily as the crosslinking reaction progressed. We propose that this new crosslinking method be used for the preparation of silk fibroin/chitosan conjugates using tyrosinase. We expect that SF/chitosan conjugates crosslinked by tyrosinase can be used preferentially in biomedical applications because of its unique properties and non-toxicity.
Conventional paints for conversion coating applications in steel production derived mainly from water-based polymer dispersions containing several additives actually show good general performance, but suffer from poor scratch and abrasion resistance during use. The reason for this is because the relatively soft organic binder matrix dominates the mechanical surface properties. In order to maintain the high quality and decorative function of coated steel sheets, the mechanical performance of the surface needs to be improved significantly. In fact the wear resistance should be enhanced without affecting the optical appearance of the coatings by using appropriate nanoparticulate additives. In this direction, nanocomposite coating compositions (Nanomer$^{(R)}$) have been derived from water-based polymer dispersions with an increasing amount of surface-modified nanoparticles in aqueous dispersion in order to monitor the effect of degree of filling with rigid nanoparticles. The surface of nanoparticles has been modified for optimum compatibility with the polymer matrix in order to achieve homogeneous nanoparticle dispersion over the matrix. This approach has been extended in such a way that a more expanded hybrid network has been condensed on the nanoparticle surface by a hydrolytic condensation reaction in addition to the quasi-monolayer type small molecular surface modification. It was expected that this additional modification will lead to more intensive cross-linking in coating systems resulting in further improved scratch-resistance compared to simple addition of nanoparticles with quasi-monolayer surface modification. The resulting compositions have been coated on zinc-galvanized steel and cured. The wear resistance and the corrosion protection of the modified coating systems have been tested in dependence on the compositional change, the type of surface modification as well as the mixing conditions with different shear forces. It has been found out that for loading levels up to 50 wt.-% nanoparticles, the mechanical wear resistance remains almost unaffected compared to the unmodified resin. In addition, the corrosion resistance remained unaffected even after $180^{\circ}$ bending test showing that the flexibility of coating was not decreased by nanoparticle addition. Electron microscopy showed that the inorganic nanoparticles do not penetrate into the organic resin droplets during the mixing process but rather formed agglomerates outside the polymer droplet phase resulting in quite moderate cross linking while curing, because of viscosity. The proposed mechanisms of composite formation and cross linking could explain the poor effect regarding improvement of mechanical wear resistance and help to set up new synthesis strategies for improved nanocomposite morphologies, which should provide increased wear resistance.

While aromatic polyimides and polyamides have found widespread use as high performance polymers, the present work addressed the need for organosoluble materials through the use of a hyperbranching scheme. The $AB_2$ monomers were prepared. The $AB_2$ monomers were then polymerized via aromatic fluoride-displacement and Yamazaki reactions to afford the corresponding hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polyimides (HT-PAEKI) and amine-terminated hyperbranched polyamides, respectively. HT-FAEKI was then functionalized with allyl and propargyl bromides as well as epichlorohydrin to afford allyl-terminated AT-PAEKI, propargyl-terminated PT-PAEKI, and epoxy (glycidyl)-terminated ET-PAEKI, in that order. All hyperbranched poly(ether-ketone-imide)s were soluble in common organic solvents. AT-PAEKI was blended with a bisphenol-A-based bismaleimide (BFA-BMI) in various weight ratios. Thermal, rheological, and mechanical properties of these blend systems were evaluated. Two characteristic hyperbranched polyamides, which the one has para-electron donating groups to the surface amine groups and the other has para-electron withdrawing groups to the surface amine groups, were selected to compare BMI curing behaviors. The electron rich polymer displayed ordinary Michael addition type exothermic reaction, while electron deficient polymer did display unusual curing behaviors. Based on analytical data, the later system provided the strong evidences to support room temperature curing of BMI by reactive intermediates instead of reactive primary amine groups on the macromolecule surface.
Two new chitosan derivatives, polyamine grafted chitosan copolymers have been synthesized for corrosion protection of carbon steel in acidic medium. First, methyl acrylate graft chitosan copolymer (CS-MAA) was prepared by the reaction of chitosan (CS) and methyl acrylate (MAA) via the Michael addition reaction. Then, CS-MAA was reacted with ethylene diamine (EN) and triethylene tetramine (TN) respectively to synthesize ethylene diamine grafted chitosan copolymer (CS-MAA-EN) and triethylene tetramine grafted chitosan copolymer (CS-MAA-TN), and the structures were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). At last, the corrosion inhibition activities on Q235 carbon steel were investigated by using gravimetric measurements, metallographic microscope, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The compounds CS-MAA-EN and CS-MAA-TN show an appreciable corrosion inhibition property against corrosion of Q235 carbon steel in 5% HCl solution at $25^{\circ}C$. It has been observed that CS-MAA-EN shows greater corrosion inhibition efficiency than CS-MAA-TN. The inhibition efficiency of CS-MAA-EN was close to 90% when the mass fraction concentration was 0.2%~0.3%; the inhibition efficiency of CS-MAA-TN was close to 85% when the mass fraction concentration was 0.02%. The present work provided very promising results in the preparation of green corrosion inhibitors.
A series of poly(imide-aramid-sulfone)s with alternatingly introduced imide/aramid groups were prepared by reacting divinyl sulfone (DVS) and $N^1,N^4$-bis(4-(vinylsulfonyl)phenyl)terephthalamide (2) with pyromellitic diimide. Three model compounds, N-[2-(p-aminophnenylsulfonyl)ethyl]phthalimide (3), 2,2'-(2,2'-sulfonylbis(ethane-2,1-diyl))diisoindoline-1,3-dione (4), and N,N-bis(4-(2-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)ethylsulfonyl)phenyl)terephthalamide (5), resembling polymers were prepared with good yields by reacting p-aminophenyl vinyl sulfone, DVS, and 2 with phthalimide. Condensation polymerization was carried out by Michael-type addition reaction of the difunctional phthalimide group with the DVS group in the presence of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH), resulting in poly(imide-aramid-sulfone)s 6-12 with moderate molecular weights and good yields. They were highly soluble in polar solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, N-methylpyrrolidinone and tetrahydrofuran. The ratios of DVS/2 were 1/0, 3/1, 2/1, 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, and 0/1. Molecular weight and physical properties such as solubility, viscosity, and thermal properties of the polymers were examined.
The misuse of anabolic hormones or illegal drugs is a ubiquitous problem in animal husbandry and in food safety. The ban on growth promotants in food producing animals in the European Union is well controlled. However, application regimens that are difficult to detect persist, including newly designed anabolic drugs and complex hormone cocktails. Therefore identification of molecular endogenous biomarkers which are based on the physiological response after the illicit treatment has become a focus of detection methods. The analysis of the 'transcriptome' has been shown to have promise to discover the misuse of anabolic drugs, by indirect detection of their pharmacological action in organs or selected tissues. Various studies have measured gene expression changes after illegal drug or hormone application. So-called transcriptomic biomarkers were quantified at the mRNA and/or microRNA level by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) technology or by more modern 'omics' and high throughput technologies including RNA-sequencing (RNA-Seq). With the addition of advanced bioinformatical approaches such as hierarchical clustering analysis or dynamic principal components analysis, a valid 'biomarker signature' can be established to discriminate between treated and untreated individuals. It has been shown in numerous animal and cell culture studies, that identification of treated animals is possible via our transcriptional biomarker approach. The high throughput sequencing approach is also capable of discovering new biomarker candidates and, in combination with quantitative RT-qPCR, validation and confirmation of biomarkers has been possible. These results from animal production and food safety studies demonstrate that analysis of the transcriptome has high potential as a new screening method using transcriptional 'biomarker signatures' based on the physiological response triggered by illegal substances.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the characteristics of alkaline protease from Aspergillus fumigatus which was isolated from soil as a superior strain for the production of the alkaline protease. The optimum temperature for enzyme activity was $50^{\circ}C$ and optimum pH was 9.0. The enzyme was stable at pH 8.0 to 10.0 and thermal inactivation was shown $30^{\circ}C$. The activity of the enzyme was increased by the addition of $Mn^{++},\;Cu^{++},\;Ba^{++},\;Mg^{++},\;$wheras it was inhibitied by $K^+,\;Fe^{+++},\;Ag^+,\;Pb^{++},\;Na^+,\;Ca^{++},\;Hg^+,\;Zn^{++}$. EDTA. 2, 4-DNP, ${\varepsilon}-amino$ caproic acid did not show inhibitory effect on the proteolytic activity of alkaline protease but P-chloromercuribenzoic acid inhibited the enzyme activity, indicating that reactive sulfhydryl group is required for the enzymatic activity. The reaction of this enzyme followed typical Michael-Menten Kinetics with the Km value of $8.33{\times}10^{-4}mole/{\ell}$ with the Vmax of $47.62{\mu}g/min$. This enzyme had stronger proteolytic activity than trypsin on substrate such as casin and hemoglibin.
Background: Injectable hydrogels have been extensively researched for the use as scaffolds or as carriers of therapeutic agents such as drugs, cells, proteins, and bioactive molecules in the treatment of diseases and cancers and the repair and regeneration of tissues. It is because they have the injectability with minimal invasiveness and usability for irregularly shaped sites, in addition to typical advantages of conventional hydrogels such as biocompatibility, permeability to oxygen and nutrient, properties similar to the characteristics of the native extracellular matrix, and porous structure allowing therapeutic agents to be loaded. Main body: In this article, recent studies of injectable hydrogel systems applicable for therapeutic agent delivery, disease/cancer therapy, and tissue engineering have reviewed in terms of the various factors physically and chemically contributing to sol-gel transition via which gels have been formed. The various factors are as follows: several different non-covalent interactions resulting in physical crosslinking (the electrostatic interactions (e.g., the ionic and hydrogen bonds), hydrophobic interactions, ${\pi}$-interactions, and van der Waals forces), in-situ chemical reactions inducing chemical crosslinking (the Diels Alder click reactions, Michael reactions, Schiff base reactions, or enzyme-or photo-mediated reactions), and external stimuli (temperatures, pHs, lights, electric/magnetic fields, ultrasounds, or biomolecular species (e.g., enzyme)). Finally, their applications with accompanying therapeutic agents and notable properties used were reviewed as well. Conclusion: Injectable hydrogels, of which network morphology and properties could be tuned, have shown to control the load and release of therapeutic agents, consequently producing significant therapeutic efficacy. Accordingly, they are believed to be successful and promising biomaterials as scaffolds and carriers of therapeutic agents for disease and cancer therapy and tissue engineering.
