  • Terson syndrome was originally used to describe a vitreous hemorrhage arising from aneurysmal subrarachnoid hemorrhage. Terson syndrome can be caused by intracranial hemorrhage, subdural or epidural hematoma and severe brain injury but is extremely rare in intraventricular hemorrhage associated with moyamoya disease. A 41-year-old man presented with left visual disturbance. He had a history of intraventicular hemorrhage associated with moyamoya disease three months prior to admission. At that time he was in comatose mentality. Ophthalmologic examination at our hospital detected a vitreous hemorrhage in his left eye, with right eye remaining normal. Vitrectomy with epiretinal membrane removal was performed. After operation his left visual acuity was recovered. Careful ophthalmologic examination is mandatory in patients with hemorrhagic moyamoya disease.

  • The subject matter of this survey has to do with holomorphic maps from a compact Riemann surface to projective space, which are also called algebrac curves; the theory we survey lies at the crossroads of function theory, projective geometry, and commutative algebra (although we should mention that the present survey de-emphasizes the algebraic aspect). Algebraic curves have been vigorously and continuously investigated since the time of Riemann. The reasons for the preoccupation with algebraic curves amongst mathematicians perhaps have to do with-other than the usual usual reason, namely, the herd mentality prompting us to follow the leads of a few great pioneering methematicians in the field-the fact that algebraic curves possess a certain simple unity together with a rich and complex structure. From a differential-topological standpoint algebraic curves are quite simple as they are neatly parameterized by a single discrete invariant, the genus. Even the possible complex structures of a fixed genus curve afford a fairly complete description. Yet there are a multitude of diverse perspectives (algebraic, function theoretic, and geometric) often coalescing to yield a spectacular result.

  • The cerebral vasospasm after clipping surgery of unruptured aneurysm is uncommon. A 44-year-old man with unruptured left middle cerebral artery[MCA] aneurysm had clipping surgery. From the third postoperative day, he presented with drowsy mentality, dysphasia and right hemiparesis. Computed tomographic scans showed low density area in frontotemporal lobe and midline shift. Transfemoral cerebral angiography revealed severe vasospasm in supraclinoid internal carotid artery, anterior cerebral artery, and MCA on the operative side. We performed left frontotemporoparietal craniectomy and hypertensive-hypervolemic therapy. He recovered without neurological deficits but for dysphasia. Neurosurgeon should be alert to the possibility of vasospasm after clipping surgery even in case of unruptured cerebral aneurysm.

  • We present a case of hydrocephalus as the primary manifestation of neurosarcoidosis. Sarcoidosis is a rare disease in Korea and its incidence is much lower than that of tuberculosis. Diagnosis is made by pathologic findings and by exclusion of other granulomatous disorders. Neurosarcoidosis is observed in approximately 5% of sarcoidosis. Its common manifestations are facial palsy (50% of patients with neurosarcoidosis) and optic neuritis. Hydrocephalus is a very uncommon reported finding. Although the typical presentation of sarcoidosis such as facial palsy is not a diagnostic dilemma, more atypical presentations such as hydrocephalus with altered mentality in a tuberculosis patient can lead to a misdiagnosis.

  • Nocardia brain abscess is rare. We report on a unique case of N. farcinica brain abscess in a liver transplant recipient, following Aspergillus fumigatus pneumonia. A 43-year-old liver transplant recipient presented with altered mentality at 2 months after A. fumigates pneumonia. He was successfully treated with surgical removal and antibiotic therapy with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and ceftriaxone.

  • Supporting communications among users, Social Network has encouraged various information flows through relationships among them. This paper studies on mentality or attitude of Social Network Services (SNS for short) users, on the basis of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM for short) and then proposes so-called TAMS, Technology Acceptance Model for Social Network Services. SNS users make full use of SNS as channels in order to create, expand, and obtain some information related to personal concerns. We will research on how the benefits that users get by using SNS exert influence on user-perceived usability. The SNS-using benefits focus on relationship benefits that are formed by interactions among users. Provided that perceived usability affects mental or informational benefits according to involvement of SNS users, we will check how perceived usability or ease of use is connected to brand attitude.

  • According to John Newman's Bibliography of Imaginative Works about American Fighting in Vietnam, there are 1370 entries up to 1996 which deal with the theme of Vietnam War in literature. Among various themes such as war and gender/race and ethnicity/class, this study makes an issue of the contiguity between femininity and death in Vietnam War novels written by Americans to investigate one of the bedrocks upon which the western civilization is founded. Female figures, especially Oriental females are seen as an emblem of death in the novels such as The Thirteenth Valley, Close Quarters, Body Count, and Bamboo Bed. It has been found out that this kind of death obsessive mode of thinking is deeply embedded in Western mentality and argued that its habitual mode needs to be changed.

  • Viral Encephalitis are a serious meningeal infection occurred by various chemical substance. Chief symptoms are headache. hyperesthesia in child and fretting. irritation in infant. Adolescence complain of a retrobulbar pain, fever, vomiturition, photophobia. Fever can cause choreic movement, mental disorder and seizure. Most of patients have complete recovery, but if there are brain lesions, it is bad prognosis. Occasionally patients complain of continuous headache, mental disorder, ataxia and marasmus. We report on a 4-year-old male patient with viral encephalitis. It has been 40 days since disease. He had disorientation mentality, dysphagia and fever.

  • Toluene is an aromatic hydrocarbon found in glues, cements, and solvents. It is known to be toxic to the nervous system, hematopoietic system, and causes acid-base and electrolyte disorders. Acute respiratory failure with hypokalemia and rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure should be considered as potential events in protracted glue sniffing. We reported the case of 26-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department with the development of respiratory failure and altered mentality due to hypokalemia after chronic glue sniffing. She was weaned from the ventilator 3 days later after potassium and sodium bicarbonate replacement and was discharged without respiratory symptoms and other complications.

  • Central anticholinergic syndrome occurs when an anticholinergic substance works in vivo or as a result of the insufficient release of acetylcholine. Its symptoms include confusion, agitation, behavioral change, hallucination, blurred vision, and dysarthria. Occasionally, these symptoms occur with the use of a scopolamine patch. A 54-year-old female complained of behavioral change and confused mentality. She attached a scopolamine patch at the postauricular area in the morning of the day before her hospital visit. Neurological examination revealed bilateral symmetric mydriasis without light reflex. The brain MRI was normal, and electroencephalography showed nonspecific abnormalities. The patient recovered completely after the removal of the scopolamine patch.
