  • In this article, we introduce the technologies and trend of technical evolution of Payload Data Handling Unit (PDHU) for Earth Observation Satellites. As well, we review the efforts for the Koreanization of PDHU so far, and conclude with some suggestions for future work.

A Performance-Oriented Intra-Prediction Hardware Design for H.264/AVC

  • In this paper, we propose a parallel intra-operation unit and a memory architecture for improving the performance of intra-prediction, which utilizes spatial correlation in an image to predict the blocks and contains 17 prediction modes in total. The design is targeted for portable devices applying H.264/AVC decoders. For boosting the performance of the proposed design, we adopt a parallel intra-operation unit that can achieve the prediction of 16 neighboring pixels at the same time. In the best case, it can achieve the computation of one luma $16{\times}16$ block within 16 cycles. For one luma $4{\times}4$ block, a mere one cycle is needed to finish the process of computation. Compared with the previous designs, the average cycle reduction rate is 78.01%, and the gate count is slightly reduced. The design is synthesized with the MagnaChip $0.18{mu}m$ library and can run at 125 MHz.

  • This research is about the remote control of the infra-ray signal producer and the received signal memory-type control unit. Also by using the infra-ray signal from the remote control, reduction of malfunctions due to infra-ray signal from other devices are presented. Applications on various electric and electronic items to improve the convenience are also shown.

  • Plastic IC encapsulation utilizing lead on chip(LOC) die attach technique allows higher device density per unit package area, and faster current speed and easter leadframe design. Nevertheless, since the top surface of the chip is directly attached to the area of the leadframe with a double-sided adhesive tape in the LOC package, it tends to be easily damaged by the leadframe, leading to limitation in its utilization. In this work, it is detailed how the damage of the chip surface occurs, and it is influenced and improved by the LOC construct.

  • A display panel image data manipulator for SOP or SOG is presented. It is capable of all the shift operations for MPEG decoders, graphic processors and controllers as well as data pack, merging, bit split and reformation operations to improve speed and memory utilization. To alleviate poly-Si low yield, redundancy based fault recovery scheme is introduced utilizing regular structure.

  • In this paper, we presented a switching-based control algorithm for improving the speed of response on temperature control of an extruder. We proposed a switching actuating value method in a temperature control of extruder and showed the effect of H$\infty$ control and PID control. Recently, the memoryless feedback control had proposed, which was not only the real time integration element, but also the memory elements. We examined the application of a switching actuating value method to a memoryless feedback, in a unit barrel temperature control of an extruder.

  • On a bus-based shared memory multiprocessing system, the system bus monitoring and analysis are crucial for system integration test and performance analysis. In this paper, the design and implementation of a bus monitoring instrument for the TICOM-III system are decribed. The instrument dedicated to TICOM-III, which is called the Bus Information Procssing Unit, analyzes the bus state and measures the bus utilization. It performs many useful functions to help debugging the system, and offers a simple user interface.

  • In this paper, the BTR (Behind the Tape Reader) type communication unit which interfaces the IEBM PC/XT to the FANUC 5M NC controller is developed, making it possible to send NC part program from the memory of IBM PC/XT to the NC controller. As an example of integration of CAD and CAM technologies, the machining of a two dimensional hand-written free line which incorporates the processes of geometric data acquisition using a digitizing tablet, automatic part programming and control of NC milling machine operation is demonstrated.

  • This paper describes the mobile robot system to recognize the guidance tape, and presents the locomotion algorithm. It is composed of image processing unit, A/ID converter and camera. This system converts video image to binary image by setting an optimal threshold and obtains the parameters to move the robot. The mobile robot moves according to the programmed route in memory. But after recognized the obstacle on the locomotion route, this system constructs the new route and the robot moves following the new route.
