  • Purpose: The purpose was to examine the self-efficacy, coping, and compliance in patients with kidney transplantation. Methods: Participants consisted of 300 outpatients who underwent kidney transplantation and regularly visited hospital for health check-up. A tool developed by Ahn (2000) was used for measuring self-efficacy. A modified version of the Jalowiec Coping Scale (Jalowiec, 1987) by Hwang (2004) was used for measuring coping, and a tool developed by Ryu, Kim, and Kang (2003) was used for compliance. Data were analyzed using SPSS program version 21.0 ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Scheff$\acute{e}$'s test for post-hoc test. Results: Coping shows significant differences according to marital status and education. Coping was used more often among patients with ABO incompatible transplantation than those with ABO compatible. Differences in compliance were significant according to donor type, ABO incompatible, period after transplantation, and admission after the transplantation. The management of life style, stress, nutrition, and exercise in self-efficacy and compliance had lower scores than the others. Conclusion: There are significant correlations between self-efficacy, coping, and compliance in patients with kidney transplant which might be helpful for health care professionals in taking care of these population.

  • The purpose of this preliminary study was to investigate the validity of the 'Attachment Q-set' as a measuring tool for 5 years attachment stability. The subjects comprised 18 boys and 15 girls aged 5 in a daycare center in G city, in Kyongnam. The instruments used in this study were 'Attachment Q-set', ASCT, and IPPA-R. Based on experts' rating, the Q-set was modified, reducing it from 90 to 75 items, and used a Likert 5-points scale. ASCT scores as well as types were compared with the scores of the Q-set and IPPA-R. The attachment type was classified into either secure or insecure. The IPPA-R score of the secure infants was significantly higher than the insecure, and correlated with the ASCT score. However, there was no significant correlation between the Q-set score with the attachment types or the ASCT scores. The Q-set scores were partially correlated with the IPPA-R. This results were discussed in terms of the Q-set's invalidity for rating attachment levels of 5 years as well as the limitations imposed by the subjects' restrictive numbers.

  • It has long been shown that Korean EFL students have not practiced extensive reading in school curriculum. Their vocabulary knowledge is limited and a tool for measuring text readability for them has hardly been developed and used. The study aimed to check the current situations on the above issues and develop a reading framework appropriate for extensive reading within the national English curriculum, including the Readability Formula in Korean EFL contexts (KRF). The study consists of four steps. The study does a survey to check the current Korean EFL situations on the issues, suggests a new vocabulary learning size, develops a readability formula as a tool for measuring text difficulty based on the newly suggested vocabulary size, and finally validates the formula with various kinds of English books, including the primary and secondary school English textbooks. It is expected that this study will provide a model for the vocabulary size and the readability index for extensive reading in EFL contexts.

  • As the development of information communication technology and thus the growth of security incidents, there has been increasing demand on developing methodologies and tools for measuring the information security level of organizations for the efficient security management. However, most works from foreign countries are not realistic in constructing the checklists, moreover their tools provide neither the ease of use nor the inexpensiveness, and most domestic works are not properly considering the characteristics of the organizations when measuring the information security level. In this study, an efficient information security levelling tool is suggested, which applies the multiple variable weights for security levelling according to the characteristics of organizations and the fuzzy technique to reduce the user's subjectivity and the genetic algorithm to establish the security countermeasure.

  • Listening effort is defined as a listener's mental exertion required to understand a speaker's auditory message, especially when distracting conditions are present. This review paper analyzed several subjective scaling tools used to measure the listening effort in order to suggest the best tool for use with hearing-impaired listeners who have to expend much effort even in everyday life. We first explained the importance of measuring listening effort and discussed various kinds of measurements. We then analyzed and categorized 15 recently published articles (i.e., from 2014 to 2016) into three topics: performance and listening effort, listening effort and fatigue, and clinical implication of listening effort. We compared the articles in terms of pros and cons and also identified 10 tools for use in the subjective scaling. Although none of these tools were unified or standardized easily, we concluded that 7-point scale would be the most reasonable as a less time-consuming measurement for compartmentalizing the degree of listening effort. If used with objective tools for measuring the listening effort, the subjective scaling could be a powerful tool for clinical use.

  • This study aimed to verify the validity of a measurement tool for Vietnamese high school students' systems thinking abilities. Two quantitative assessment tools, the Systems Thinking Measuring Instrument (Lee et al., 2013) and the Systems Thinking Scale (Dolansky et al., 2020), were used to measure students' systems thinking after translation into Vietnamese. As a result, it was revealed that Cronbach-α for each tool (i.e., STMI and STS) was .917 and .950, respectively, indicating high reliability for both. To validate the construct validity of the translated questionnaire, exploratory factor analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0, and confirmatory factor analysis was performed using AMOS 21.0. For concurrent validity, correlation analysis using structural equation modeling was performed to validate the translated questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that 10 items from the STMI and 12 items from the STS loaded on the intended factors and appropriate factor loading values were obtained. For confirmatory factor analysis, a structural equation model organized with 10 items from the STMI and 12 items from the STS was used. The result of this showed that the convergent validity values of the model were all appropriate, and the model fit indices were analyzed to be χ2/df of 1.892, CFI of .928, TLI of .919, SRMR of .047, and RMSEA of .063, indicating that the model consisting of the 22 items of the two questionnaires was appropriate. Analysis of the concurrent validity of the two tools indicated a high correlation coefficient (.903) and high correlation (.571-.846) among the subfactors. In conclusion, both the STMI and STS are valid quantitative measures of systems thinking, and it can be inferred that the systems thinking of Vietnamese high-school students can be quantitatively measured using the 22 items identified in our analysis. Using the tool validated in this study with other tools (e.g., qualitative assessment) can help accurately measure Vietnamese high school students' systems thinking abilities. Furthermore, these tools can be used to collect evidence and support effective education in ODA projects and volunteer programs.
