  • Purpose - This study examined the effect of tariff cuts on productivity in Korea's manufacturing industries and the effect of initial productivity level before tariff cuts on productivity improvement after tariff cuts. We also attempted to identify whether import-driven or export-driven factors are more important for productivity improvement, especially in low productivity industries. Design/methodology - Since tariff reduction is a policy decision that can affect cross-industry, its impact is spread across all industries beyond the scope of a single firm through the input and output network of industry structure. Accordingly, we proposed a new method to measure the change in productivity to reflect the impact of tariff cuts across industries. Through an Armington CGE analysis, changes in endogenous variables can be directly measured after the exogenous shock of tariff reduction, and the amount of movements in productivity triggered by tariff cuts can also be calculated. We can thus assess the effectiveness of exogenous policy, such as tariff cuts, through the difference between the benchmark and counterfactual values of endogenous variables. Findings - This study confirmed that tariff reduction positively affected productivity improvement in Korea's manufacturing industries. It also confirmed that productivity gains occur in Korea's leading export industries. Finally, greater productivity gains were recorded in the group with additional high-export-share or high-import-share conditions for low productivity industries. These results are, in a limited sense, consistent with the existing studies that emphasize the importance of exports and imports on productivity improvement, especially for low productivity industries. Originality/value - The results of our experiments are different from those of non-CGE studies, which measure the industry-level change in productivity with dummy coefficients, in terms of directly calculating the amount of change in productivity. In addition, we propose that the Armington CGE model is more appropriate than the Melitz CGE model to directly measure the productivity after tariff cuts. This is because the Melitz CGE model assumes the given specific productivity density, which does not change after an overall drop of tariffs. To the best of our knowledge, this approach to directly calculating productivity by reflecting the impact of tariff reduction across industries through CGE analysis, is unprecedented in this literature.

  • Many researchers have used cohort DB (database) to predict the occurrence of disease or to keep track of disease spread. Cohort DB is Big Data which has simply stored disease and health information as separated DB table sets. To measure the relations between health information, It is necessary to reconstruct cohort DB which follows research purpose. In this paper, XML descriptor, editor has been used to construct ontology-based Big Data cohort DB. Also, we have developed ontology based cohort DB search system to check results of relations between health information. XML editor has used 7 layered Ontology development 101 and OWL API to change cohort DB into ontology-based. Ontology-based cohort DB system can measure the relation of disease and health information and can be used effectively when semantic relations are found. We have developed ontology-based cohort DB search system which can measure the relations between disease and health information. And it is very effective when searched results are semantic relations.

  • Margin of safety against potential of progressive collapse is among important features of a structural system. Often eccentricity in plan of a building causes concentration of damage, thus adversely affects its progressive collapse safety margin. In this paper the progressive collapse of symmetric and asymmetric 3-story reinforced concrete ordinary moment resisting frame buildings subjected to the earthquake ground motions are studied. The asymmetric buildings have 5%, 15% and 25% mass eccentricity. The distribution of the damage and spread of the collapse is investigated using nonlinear time history analyses. Results show that potential of the progressive collapse at both stiff and flexible edges of the buildings increases with increase in the level of asymmetry in buildings. It is also demonstrated that "drift" as a more easily available global response parameter is a good measure of the potential of progressive collapse rather than much difficult-to-calculate local response parameter of "number of collapse plastic hinges".

  • Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which was first identified in Wuhan, China, in late December of 2019 is rapidly spreading across the globe. The South Korean government has ordered the closure of all schools, as part of its attempts to use social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The effects of the school closures on reducing contagion are generally positive; however, the measure is controversial because of the socioeconomic ripple effect that accompanies it. The author briefly reviewed the existing literature on the mental health aspects of disasters and presents the issues related to school closures due to pandemics, from medical and socioeconomic perspectives and in terms of children's mental health. The results of this review suggest that research on children's mental health in relation to the adoption of school closures as a pandemic mitigation strategy is urgently needed.

  • Recently, to the development of a highly information-oriented society to a large increase in dependence on power, Accordingly, it is need that active development and spread of preservation technology on accident prevention in operation electrical equipment. However, to lack of the use on maintenance technology of power equipment and to increase of power usage is growing deterioration of power equipment, this is a cause on casualties, property damage and the occurrence of disasters is a growing. GIS equipments which are operated from domestic except the equipment which manages from the big business are depend on a most visual inspection, and do inspection method or measuring instrument etc. a condition which is not supplied widely. Currently, many to measure instrument used in domestic is very expensive or foreign, it will be able to substitute this, the development necessity of the diagnosis technique and the measuring instrument is demanded.

  • DAM(Delay-And-Multiplier) intercept receiver usually detects the symbol rate of the transmitted DS spread spectrum signal for the feature extraction. It is important for secure communication to reduce the normalized output signal-to-noise ratio that is generated at the DAM intercept receiver as a measure of detectability. In this paper, several kinds of chip waveforms are novelly analyzed for LPI(Low-Probability of Intercept) communication against DAM intercept receiver. Consequently, it is shown that the rectangular chip waveform shows the best LPI performance in the bandwidth of 2/$T_c$TEX>, 4/$T_c$TEX>, and 6/$T_c$TEX>/. Except the rectangular waveform, kaiser chip waveform show better LPI performance than the other waveforms in the bandwidth of 4/$T_c$TEX> and 6/$T_c$TEX>.

  • Along with the spread of digital music and recent growth in the digital music industry, the demands for music recommender are increasing. These days, listeners have increasingly preferred to digital real-time streamlining and downloading to listen to music because it is convenient and affordable for the listeners to do that. We use Bayesian learning through weight of listener's prefered music site such as Melon, Billboard, Bugs Music, Soribada, and Gini. We reflect most popular current songs across all genres and styles for music recommender system using user profile. It is necessary for us to make the task of preprocessing of clustering the preference with weight of listener's preferred music site with popular music charts. We evaluated the proposed system on the data set of music sites to measure its performance. We reported some of the experimental result, which is better performance than the previous system.
