  • The leaves of three plant species, such as soybean, raspberry, and kudzu, exposed to hydrogen fluoride was collected in an area surrounding an emission source where the release accident occurred. The ultrasonic-assisted extraction and analysis of fluoride by ion chromatography was carried out. The mean concentration of fluoride in the leaves of three plant species exposed to hydrogen fluoride was $5,409{\pm}1,198mg\;F/kg\;dry\;wt$ and $788{\pm}339mg\;F/kg\;dry\;wt$, respectively. The mean fluoride concentration in ambient air were estimated to be $2.36{\pm}0.65mg/m^3$ ($2.89{\pm}0.79ppm$) and $0.35{\pm}0.15mg/m^3$ ($0.43{\pm}0.19ppm$) in exposed and unexposed sites, respectively. It seems likely that the passive monitoring using plant leaves could identify with respect to plant risk by fluoride in atmosphere.

  • It's not easy to produce very high tones during singing for not only untrained ordinary people but also even trained singers. To get high singing tones from the low tones, some trained singers used to use a distinguished singing technique, Passaggio (vocal register transition). The purpose of this study is to compare several voice parameters variation between when to sing with using the passaggio technique and to sing without using it. We selected 18 male singers (tenor 8, baritone 10), who had more than 7 years of experience and were well trained in passaggio technique. Simultaneous measurements of fundamental frequency (F0), mean flow rate (MFR), intensity (I), and subglottal pressure (Psub) were performed using the phonatory function analyzer (Nagashima). For the tenor, target tones /a/ were presented: 1) easy phonation: $B_{2}$, 2) high tone without passaggio: F$#_{3}$ 3) high tone with passaggio: F$#_{3}$. For the baritone, target tones /a/ were presented: 1) easy phonation: G$#_{3}$, 2) high tone without passaggio: D$#_{3}$, 3) high tone with passaggio: D$#_{3}$. F0 of the target tones between non-passaggio group and passaggio group was almost the same in both tenor and baritone groups. Intensity of the non-passaggio and passaggio vocalization was much louder than that of easy phonation and pasaggio was louder than non-passaggio vocalization (especially statistically significant in baritone singers). MFR of the passaggio vocalization was greater than non-passaggio vocalization in both tenor and baritone group, but statistically significant only in baritone. Psub of the passaggio vocalization was greater than that of the non-passaggio vocalization in both tenor and baritone group, but statistically not significant in tenor.

  • The objectives of this study were to evaluate the removal characteristics of total nitrogen, the influence factor of denitrification and the optimum operating condition in the pigment wastewater treatment using PAC-A/O process. The operating conditions of PAC-A/O process were mean BOD volumetric loading $0.86kgBOD/m^3/day$, mean F/M ratio 0.072~0.13 kgBOD/kgMLVSS/day and mean C/N ratio 3.47, respectively. The conditions of anoxic process in the field plant test were mean pH 8.3~8.7 and mean temperature $34.1{\sim}44.0^{\circ}C$. The ORP bending point knee was eventually appeared in the ORP -107 mV and $NO_3{^-}-N$ removal efficiency was increased according to the ORP decrease. In the ORP -107 mV below condition, the removal efficiency of T-N and $NO_3{^-}-N$ was 92.3~95.0% and 98.5~99.7%. Denitrification rate was calculated to be 1.581~1.791 mg $NO_3{^-}-N/gMLSS/hr$. The experimental results showed that the ORP control in the PAC-A/O process could be an effective method for treatment of pigment wastewater.

  • The present study was carried out to determine the effects of feeding levels of barley grain in diets of Hanwoo on the growth performance and carcass characteristics of Hanwoo. Twenty Hanwoo bull calves (initial mean body wt. 99kg) were randomly divided to examine the effects of 5 feeding levels of barley grains(addition levels: 0, 0 and 40% for FII40; 0, 0 and 60% for FII60; 0, 20 and 40% for F2040; and 0, 20 and 60% for F2060 during the growing, early fattening and late fattening periods, respectively) on growth performance and meat quality. Body weight was not affected by the feeding level of barley grains through the whole experimental period, although the body weight of Hanwoo bulls fed FII40 diet at 24 months old of age tended to be lower(591.5kg) than that of other animals(606.2~614.6kg). However, body weight gain in the bulls of the FII60 diet was slightly increased(P<.19). The feeding levels of barley grains did not influence on fasting body weight, carcass weight, carcass rate, lean meat, retailed cut, KPH fat and bone yield. The lean meat yield(89.82%) and fat yield(20.28%) tended to increase in Hanwoo bulls fed the F2060 compared with other treatments. Feeding of the diets of FII40 resulted in the higher marbling scores as 3.75, respectively than other diets.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between the preferred sensation type and speech sounds, especially on $F_0$ and the speech rates. Data for the sensation types and speech sounds were collected from 36 undergraduate and graduate students (17 male, 19 female). Subjects were asked to read a given text (400 syllables), describe a drawing, and give answers to some questions. We measured speakers' $F_0$ and speech rates. The results show that type V (Visual) has the correlation with the speech rates when type D (Digital) was ruled out, and type A (Auditory) has the correlation with the speech rates when type D was included. Furthermore, the analysis of the mean values of V, A, K (Visual, Auditory, Kinethetic) indicates that type V is characterized with faster speech rates and higher $F_0$ in all parts except for interview and the same is true for that of V, A, K, D (Visual, Auditory, Kinethetic, Digital) in all parts. In conclusion, this study proved that the preferred sensation type has the correlation with $F_0$ and speech rates. Based on the results of this study, $F_0$ and speech rates can be used to analyze the sensation types for individualized education as well as consultation. In addition, this study has great significance in that it lays a foundation for the study on the correlation between a preferred sensation type and speech sounds.
