Effects of translocation on seed yield and carbon-nitrogen compounds at five leaf-pod ratios of soybean [Glycine max. (L.)Merr. ] culti bars, 'Paldalkong', 'Baekunkong', and 'Danyeobkong' were measured. The upper 50 and lower 50% of leaves and pods were subjected to treatments at growth stage R3. Three soybean cultivars showed the similar trends on changes in dry matter accumulation and on the contents of soluble sugar, starch and protein in seeds among the treatments. Mean stem dry weight was increased with upper leaf-lower pod and lower leaf-upper pod removals, and decreased with upper leaf and lower leaf removals. Leaf dry weight was appeared higher at the upper leaves among the treatments. Seed numbers and dry weights were decreased with leaf and leaf-pod removals, and were higher in lower part of the plants. Soluble sugar and starch contents in seeds were also showed slightly higher in lower part. Protein content of seeds was decreased in upper part with upper leaf removal and in lower part with lower leaf removal, however, that of the upper seeds was the highest with lower leaf removal. The results of this study are assumed that carbon and nitrogen compounds were translocated opposite directions and protein source was weak in remobilization for the long distance transport during the reproductive growth period of soybean plants.
To clarify the effects of sink demand for assimilate on leaf photosynthetic rate, tissue composition, and leaf senescence of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] J plants, pod and leaf tissues were removed at growth stage $R^3$. Plant responses were measured every 10days from 2 through 42days following treatment. Leaves of depodded plants exhibited increased starch and chlorophyll contents and specific leaf weight. Stomatal resistance was also increased and leaf photosynthetic rate was reduced. Dry weight of vegetative tissues except leaves was increased by pod removal. Leaf removal resulted in a decreased starch content of leaves from 22 to 42days after treatment and that of roots at all sampling times. Specific leaf weight was decreased while leaf photosynthetic rate was increased. Stomatal resistance and chlorophyll content were little affected. Weight per seed was decreased 3.0% by leaf removal. Except for the seed, tissue protein contents were increased by pod removal but decreased by leaf removal, however, seed protein content was not affected by either. Apparent senescence was delayed by depodding. Both apparent and functional senescence were accelerated by leaf removal.

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is an important crop, accounting for 48% of the world market in oil crops. Improvement of the quality and quantity of soybean seed constituents is one of the most important objectives in soybean breeding. Protein content and seed size are important properties to determine the quality of tofu and soy sprouts respectively. The objective of this study was to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that control seed weight, protein and oil content in soybean. The 117 $F_{2:10}$ recombinant inbred lines (RlL) developed from a cross of 'Keunolkong' and 'Shinpaldalkong' were used. Narrow-sense heritability estimates based on a plot mean on seed weight, protein and oil content were 0.8, 0.78 and 0.71, respectively. Four independent QTLs for seed weight were identified from linkage group (LG) F, I and K. Five QTL for protein content were located on LG D1b, E, H, I and L. Oil content was related with six QTLs located on LG D1b, E, G, I, J and N. Protein and oil content have three common QTLs on LG D1b, E and I. Thus, we identified major loci improving soybean seed quality.
Although high nutritional values and continuous identification of important functional substances of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill.] promote consumption of soybean products worldwide, informations on quality of brand soybean is not enough for consumers. Total of 100 brand soybeans [32 for soypaste and source, 45 black testa (lage), and 17 black testa (small) or medicinal soybean and beansprout soybean] were collected at supermarkets and several external quality factors were analyzed. Brand soybeans were marked with the environmental friendly and intimating words along with soybean (white or yellow), black soybean (black-, frost-, late frost-, green or inner-green-), medicinal soybean and beansprout soybean. Among 100 brand soybeans 30% was 1 kg package and 59% was 500 g package, difference between printed and actual weights of 70% brand soybeans was ${\pm}1%$ and weights of 2/3 of brand soybeans were higher than printed weight. Range of 100 seed weights of soypaste and source, black testa (large) and black testa (small) and beansprout soybeans were $23.7{\sim}47.8g$, $21.9{\sim}44.5g$ and $9.5{\sim}15.0g$, respectively. Although ranges of 100 seed weights of soypaste and source and black testa (large) soybeans were similar, 63% of soypaste and source were less than 29 g, while 78% of black testa (large) soybeans were higher than 30 g. Although average and highest percentages of seeds separated with 6.7 mm sieve were similar with 87.4% and 99.9% for soypaste and source soybean and 86.5% and 99.5% for black testa (large) soybean, respectively, the lowest percentages were 70.7% for soypaste and source soybean and 14.4% for black testa (large) soybean. When 100 seed weight was greater than 35 g, 90% of seeds were remained on 6.7 mm sieve. On the other hand 100 g weight and percentage of seeds remained on 6.7 mm sieve showed significantly positive correlations [r=0.7488** for soypaste and source soybean and r=0.7874** for black testa (large) soybean when 100 seed weight was $20{\sim}30g$. Based on hilum color and/or appearance, 76% of brand soybeans collected (more than 90% in yellow testa soybeans) were found to be mixed more than 10% with other cultivars or landraces. Foreign materials such as sand, piece of clothe, wood piece, dead insects, other soybeans were found in 20% of brand soybeans. Average test weight of brand soybeans was 762g $L^{-1}$ with a range of $645{\sim}820g\;L^{-1}$. Soybeans from local markets were as good as brand soybeans in 100 seed weight, uniformity of seeds, weight of foreign materials and test weight.

Superabsorbent Polymers (SAPs) are hydrophilic synthetic polymers which could absorb water by hundreds of their own weight. They are used for multiple purpose including hygienic goods, soil conditioners, and hospital supplies. It is necessary to investigate the standard of their use including the amendment rate for soil application in agricultural fields. It is also important to understand their effects on the soil water content and engineering characteristics. The objective of this study is to find the water absorbing capacity and reusability of SAPs, and the characteristics of water release and effect of them on soil water content and engineering characteristics. In the result, SAPs per unit weight (1 g) used for this research could absorb about 200 g of water in max. The water absorbing capacity decreased after SAPs were used repeatedly. Released water of SAPs could provide the soils with about 9 % of the soil water content. Soil water content increased with decreasing distance from the SAPs. The distance of release was spreaded out with increasing water absorbed of SAPs. Finally, when a drainage and the capacity of soil water content were considered, it is recommended to amend the SAPs with soil by less than 0.25 %.
Important parameters for the stability checks of cantilever wall are the active earth pressure and the weight of soil above the heel of the base slab. If the heel length is so long enough that the shear zone bounded by the failure plane is not obstructed by the stem of the wall, the Rankine active condition is assumed to exist along the vertical plane which is located at the edge of the heel of the base slab. Then the Rankine active earth pressure equations may be theoretically used to calculate the lateral pressure on the vertical plane. However, in case of the cantilever wall with a short heel, the application of Rankine theory is not only theoretically incorrect but also makes the lateral earth pressure larger than the actual pressure and results in uneconomical design. In this study, for the cantilever wall with a short heel the limit analysis method is used to investigate the mechanism of development of the active earth pressure and then the magnitude and location of the resultants of the pressure and the weight of the soil above the heel are determined. The calculated results are compared with the existing methods for the stability check. In case of the cantilever wall with a short heel, the results by the Mohr circle method and Teng's method show max. 3.7% and 32% larger than those of the limit analysis method respectively.
Recently, abnormal weather conditions, such as extreme high temperatures and droughts, have increased in frequency due to climate change, there has accordingly been growing concern regarding the detrimental effects on field crop, including soybean. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the effects of increased temperatures on soybean growth and yield using a temperature gradient chamber (TGC). Two major types of soybean cultivar, a medium- seed cultivar such as Daepung-2 and a large-seed cultivar such as Daechan, were used and four temperature treatments, aT+1℃ (ambient temperature+1℃), aT+2℃ (ambient temperature+2℃), aT+3℃ (ambient temperature+3℃) and aT+4℃ (ambient temperature+4℃) were established to examine the growth response and seed yield of each cultivar. Seed yield showed a higher correlation with seed weight (r=0.713***) and an increase in temperature affected seed yield by reducing the single seed weight. In particular, the seed growth rate of the large-seed cultivar (Daechan) increased at high temperature, resulting in a reduction in the number of days for full maturity. Our results accordingly indicate that large-seed cultivar, such as Daechan, is potentially vulnerable to high temperature stress. The results of this study can be used as basic data in the development of cultivation technology to reduce the damage caused by elevated temperatures. Also, further research is required to evaluate the response of each process contributing to seed yield production under high temperatures.
Attempts were made to determine the effects of 5-Korean wild vegetabel consumptions on blood glucose leveles and orgen-energy metabolisms in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The 5-Korean wild vegetables were : Cassia tora L.(C.t), Lycium chinese Mill(L.c), Trichosanthes kirilowii Max(T.k), Polygonatum odoratum var. Pluriflorum Ohwi(P.o) and Arctium lappa L(A.l). Sixty male Spargue-Dawley rats(160-220g) were induced diabetes mellitus by streptozotocin injection into the tail vein and were devided into 6 groups : a diabetic control and 5-experimental groups. All groups of the rats were fed on a AIN-76 diet, and the 5-experimental groups were fed with each wild vegetable (10%) for four weeks. An increased tendency in body weight of all the groups was observed and the tendency was more significant in L.c, T.k. and P.o. groups. The organ weight of liver and kidney were higher in L.c. and A.l. groups and lower in T.k. group which has shown the improvement from diabetes. Plasma glucose levels were markedly decreased from the 1st week in C.t, T.k. and P.o. groups and the tendency has lasted throughout the four weeks experimental period. The consumption of P.o. has decreased plasma cholesterol level while any significant difference was not seen in plasma protein levels from all the experimental groups. The level of plasma triglyceride was decreased in P.o. group and the levels of plasma free fatty acids were also significantly lower in P.o. and T.k. groups. The liver protein levels were significantly higher in P.o. and T.k. groups and these two groups also showed the negative or relatively small amount of urinary glucose excretion. The experimental group of T.k. has revealed the decreased level of muscles protein and the increased level of muscle glycogen. The 5-Korean wild vegetables contained dietary fiber and 9-analyzed minerals comparable to the ordinary use vegetables.

This paper is proposed to image retrieval system using color and shape feature. Color feature used to four maximum value feature among the maximum value extracted from local color distribution histogram. The preprocessing of shape feature consist of edge extraction and weight central point extraction and angular sampling. The sum of distance from weight central point to contour and variation and max/min used to shape feature. The similarity is estimated compare feature of query image with the feature of images in database and the candidate of image is retrieved in order of similarity. We evaluate the effectiveness of shape feature and color feature in experiment used to two hundred of the closed image. The Recall and the Precision is each 0.72 and 0.53 in the result of average experiment. So the proposed method is presented useful method.

This study was developed the home network system for the home stay care by bio-sensor system to translate the physical signal algorithm. The composition algorithm has five functions for a input function, frequency variable, displacement point input function, axial Variable, axial Sway Displacement to search a max and min point with adjustment of 0.01 unit in the reference level. There were checked physical condition of body balance to compounded a measurement such as a heart rate, temperature, weight. The algorithm of home network system can be used to support health care management system through health assistants in health care center and central health care system. It was expected to monitor a physical parameter for health management system.
