The Changes of Learning Attitude in Mathematics for Underachiever of Learning Mathematics Using Mentoring (멘토링을 통한 수학학습부진아의 수학학습태도 변화에 대한 사례연구)

  • The purpose of this article described the effects of mentoring program to the underachiever's attitude in learning Mathematics. In order to do this research, a mentoring class had been carried out for 30 weeks, with two students who was underachievers in mathematics. It was carried out contrastive analysis on the student's learning attitude in the math class before and after the mentoring, using a questionnaire of learning attitude in math with 40 questions, filling the blanks in sentence, recording files of class, and mentoring journals. As a result, before taking the mentoring class, students who were participated in the mentoring program were negative and low in five subordinate concepts(learning attitude, such as their tendency, interest, desire, confidence, attitude, and studying habits in math). However, after the mentoring class, the two students were remarkably changed in positive way on the five concepts in learning mathematics. Therefore, it is helpful to underachievers in mathematics if the mentoring program is used since it yields a positive impact on the learning attitude.

The Effects of Cyber Home Learning System on Mathematics Learning Achievements and Mathematical Disposition (사이버가정학습을 통한 수학학습이 수학학업성취도 및 수학적 성향에 미치는 영향)

  • This research aimed to find out what kind of effects cyber home learning system has on the 7th educational system elementary school students in grade 6. Specifically, the effects on the students' mathematics learning achievements and mathematical disposition. The following items were established for the research objective. First, analyze what effects using the cyber home learning system for studying mathematics has on mathematics learning achievements. Second, analyze what effects using the cyber home learning system for studying mathematics has on mathematical disposition of the students. The following results were obtained from the analysis. First, the students who were subjected to the cyber home learning system showed improvements in mathematics learning achievements compared to those who weren't. Furthermore, the students who were subjected to the system on mathematical program showed greater improvements than those who were subjected to the system on social program. Second, the experimental group that was subjected to the system, when compared with the comparison group 1, was shown to have positive, statistically-significant effects on mathematical disposition. Moreover, though effects weren't statistically significant when compared with the group that was subjected to the system on social program, it was seen that there were changes in mathematical disposition to some degree.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an effective Calculus Supplement Learning Program for university students who are from liberal arts and investigate how the program affects their achievement and attitude in mathematics. we analyzed their answer sheets and interview reports with qualitative methods. After adapting the program, students recognized that mathematical concepts and definitions were very important to study a college calculus. Also they picked up how to learn mathematics in college. Finally, we found that students could develop their abilities of proof, problem solving, and logical thinking through the program.

  • We are at the onset of a major revolution in education, a revolution unparalleled since the invention of the printing press. The computer will be the instrument of this revolution. Computers and computer application are everywhere these days. Everyone can't avoid the influence of the computer in today's world. The computer is no longer a magical, unfamiliar tool that is used only by researchers or scholars or scientists. The computer helps us do our jobs and even routine tasks more effectively and efficiently. More importantly, it gives us power never before available to solve complex problems. Mathematics instruction in secondary schools is frequently perceived to be more a amendable to the use of computers than are other areas of the school curriculum. This is based on the perception of mathematics as a subject with clearly defined objectives and outcomes that can be reliably measured by devices readily at hand or easily constructed by teachers or researchers. Because of this reason, the first large-scale computerized curriculum projects were in mathematics, and the first educational computer games were mathematics games. And now, the entire mathematics curriculum appears to be the first of the traditional school curriculum areas to be undergoing substantial trasformation because of computers. Recently, many research-Institutes of our country are going to study on computers in orders to use it in mathematics education, but the study is still start ing-step. In order to keep abreast of this trend necessity, and to enhance mathematics teaching/learning which is instructed lecture-based teaching/learning at the present time, this study aims to develop/present practical method of computer-using. This is devided into three methods. 1. Programming teaching/learning method This part is presented the following five types which can teach/learn the mathematical concepts and principle through concise program. (Type 1) Complete a program. (Type 2) Know the given program's content and predict the output. (Type 3) Write a program of the given flow-chart and solve the problem. (Type 4) Make an inference from an error message, find errors and correct them. (Type 5) Investigate complex mathematical fact through program and annotate a program. 2. Problem-solving teaching/learning method solving This part is illustrated how a computer can be used as a tool to help students solve realistic mathematical problems while simultaneously reinforcing their understanding of problem-solving processes. Here, four different problems are presented. For each problem, a four-stage problem-solving model of polya is given: Problem statement, Problem analysis, Computer program, and Looking back/Looking ahead. 3. CAI program teaching/learning method This part is developed/presented courseware of sine theorem section (Mathematics I for high school) in order to avail individualized learning or interactive learning with teacher. Development and Effect of Math-Tour to improve Mathematics Study Attitude (수학 학습에 대한 긍정적 태도 신장을 위한 매쓰투어(Math-Tour) 개발 및 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of Mathematics field experience trip program on students' attitude in learning Mathematics. For this we developed Jejumok-Gwanna Math-Tour program in 2019 for students which would make them to walk and experience mathematics in the field. In that program, we suggested several Mathematics examples about natural objects and artifacts in Jejumok-Gwanna. After that, we let A middle school students within Jeju to experience this program in order to see the effect of this program. We asked participants to write pre- and past- questionnaire, have an interview, and write review. After analyzing those, this study concluded that the effect of Jejumok-Gwanna Math-Tour on student's attitude in learning mathematics was statically significant. The result of this study suggested that Mathematics Field Experience Study Program could be useful to improve student's attitude in learning mathematics.

A study of the efficient application of Discretion activity in Mathematics curriculum (수학 교과 재량활동시간의 효율적인 운영에 관한 연구)

  • For the efficient application of curriculum discretion activity, I developed the program, 'Let's go together', so that curriculum discretion activity can be applied in the classroom. The program consists of several experiences, which are <Man to man paired study>, <the learning materials for Mathematics in our lives>, <the cooperative study in the class> and <the variety experiences about Mathematics>. This study shows the following results: First, T-test about the students' learning attitude and interest in Mathematics, there was dramatic change in students' desire, interest and attitude for mathematics learning. Second, as the role of Baewomi & Dowomi in 'Man to man paired study', Baewomi & Dowomi provided students with confidence of mathematics learning. We were able to ensure this fact from students' essay after the class. Third, teachers found that the number of students who had positive attitude with Self-directed study increased. And students tried to solve mathematical problems by themselves and the time using self-directed learning experience was also increased. This study suggests that there needs more development for learning materials for mathematics in our lives.

The Effects of Problem Posing Program through Structure-Centered Cooperative Learning on Mathematics Learning Achievements and Mathematical Disposition (구조중심 협동학습을 통한 문제 만들기 학습이 수학학업성취도 및 수학적 성향에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to test if problem posing based on structural approach cooperative learning has a positive effect on mathematical achievement and mathematical disposition. For this purpose, this study carried out tasks as follows: First, we design a problem posing teaching learning program based on structural approach cooperative learning. Second, we analyze how problem posing based on structural approach cooperative learning affects students' mathematical achievement. Third, we analyze how problem posing based on structural approach cooperative learning affects students' mathematical disposition. The results of this study are as follows: First, in the aspect of mathematical achievement, the experimental group who participated in the problem posing program based on structural approach cooperative teaming showed significantly higher improvement in mathematical achievement than the control group. Second, in the aspect of mathematical disposition, the experimental group who participated in the problem posing program based on structural approach cooperative teaming showed positive changes in their mathematical disposition. Summing up the results, through problem posing based on structural approach cooperative learning, students made active efforts to solve problems rather than fearing mathematics and, as a result, their mathematical achievement was improved. Furthermore, through mathematics classes enjoyable with classmates, their mathematical disposition was also changed in a positive way.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct the "open" instructional model that might be used properly in mathematics classroom. In this study, the core philosophy of "openness" in mathematics instruction is looked upon as the transference itself from pursuing simply strengthening the function of instruction such as effectiveness in the management of educational environment into the understanding of the nature of mathematics learning and the pursuing of true effectiveness in mathematics learning. It means, in other words, this study is going to accept the "openness" as functional readiness to open all the possibility among the conditions of educational environment for the purpose of realizing maximum learning effectiveness. With considering these concepts, this study regards open mathematics education as simply one section among the spectrum of mathematics education, thus could be included in the category of mathematics education. The model for open instruction in mathematics classroom, constructed in this study, has the following virtues: This model (1) suggests integrated view of open mathematics instruction that could adjust the individual and sporadic views recently constructed about open mathematics instruction; (2) could suggest structural approach for the construction of open mathematics instruction program; (3) could be used in other way as a method for evaluation open mathematics instruction program.thematics instruction program.

  • We seek the possibility of application of ICT(Information & Communication Technology) to the experience learning in mathematics. Especially we focused on regular polyhedron in the middle school mathematics and on geodesic dome. We investigate related historical tales about the subjects which seem quite helpful of motivating to understand them. Then by using them and by ICT we develop an experience learning program for geodesic dome as an application of regular polyhedron. Through the program we expect that students show positive attitude in mathematical tendency and curiosity about mathematics and that the application of ICT to the experience learning in mathematics is very effective to improve their learning skill in mathematics.

  • This study expects that Team Based Project Learning can act positive role to improve pre-service elementary teachers' teaching competence from previous studies. So designing and executing Team Based Project Learning program, I can provide some suggestions to the teaching method for teacher training education. In this study, Team Based Project Learning focuses on the use of history of mathematics in school mathematics. Also from organizing the team to evaluation, I conduct team activity systematically both inside and outside the classroom. The result of this study shows that pre-service elementary teachers' teaching competence has improved and I could identify the positive response about the value of using the history of mathematics and effect of Team Based Project Learning in mathematics learning.
