More than seventy strains of aerobic bacteria showing ${\beta}$-glucosidase activity were isolated from a ginseng field, using a newly designed Esculin-R2A agar, and identified by their 16S rRNA gene sequences. Of these microorganisms, twelve strains could convert the major ginsenoside, $Rb_1$, to the pharmaceutically active minor ginsenoside Rd. Three strains, Burkholderia pyrrocinia GP16, Bacillus megaterium GP27 and Sphingomonas echinoides GP50, were phylogenetically studied, and observed to be most potent at converting ginsenoside $Rb_1$ almost completely within 48 h, as shown by TLC and HPLC analyses.

Sheet deposition type rapid prototyping system have many advantages : high build speed, low operating cost, large part size, no phase change, no need for support generation, and forth. However, those sheet deposition type rapid prototyping system require an additional post processing to remove excessive material attached to the part. This post processing is time consuming and labor intensive. Moreover, it is difficult for those system to fabricate parts with hollow cores and internal cavities. A new sheet deposition type rapid prototyping system that minimizes the post processing is proposed. The proposed system automatically removes excessive material in a peeling-off process between two cutting processes. In this way, the proposed system can reduce the post-processing time and cost as well as the limitation of the feasible geometric shapes in the conventional sheet deposition system.

The proposed system was composed of pre-processor which was executing binary/high-pass filtering and post-processor which ranged from statistic data to prediction. In post-processor work, step one was filter process of image, step two was image recognition, and step three was destruction degree/time prediction. After these processing, we could predict image of the last destruction timestamp. This research was produced variation value according to growth of tree pattern. This result showed improved correction, when this research was applied image Processing. Pre-processing step of original image had good result binary work after high pass- filter execution. In the case of using partial discharge of the image, our research could predict the last destruction timestamp. By means of experimental data, this Prediction system was acquired ${\pm}$3.2% error range.
Carbon fiber reinforced SiC composites (C/SiC) have high-temperature stability and excellent thermal shock resistance, and are currently being applied in extreme environments, for example, as aerospace propulsion parts or in high-performance brake systems. However, their low thermal conductivity, compared to metallic materials, are an obstacle to energy efficiency improvements via utilization of regenerative cooling systems. In order to solve this problem, the present study investigated the bonding strength between carbon fiber and matrix material within ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials, demonstrating the relation between the microstructure and bonding, and showing that the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity may be improved by treatment of the carbon fibers. When fiber surface was treated with a nitric acid solution, the observed segment crack areas within the subsequently generated CMC increased from 6 to 10%; moreover, it was possible to enhance the thermal conductivity from 10.5 to 14 W/m·K, via the same approach. However, fiber surface treatment tends to cause mechanical damage of the final composite material by fiber etching.

An effective methodology is .reported for determining the optimal capacity (lot-size) of batch processing and storage networks which include material recycle or reprocessing streams. We assume that any given storage unit can store one material type which can be purchased from suppliers, be internally produced, internally consumed and/or sold to customers. We further assume that a storage unit is connected to all processing stages that use or produce the material to which that storage unit is dedicated. Each processing stage transforms a set of feedstock materials or intermediates into a set of products with constant conversion factors. The objective for optimization is to minimize the total cost composed of raw material procurement, setup and inventory holding costs as well as the capital costs of processing stages and storage units. A novel production and inventory analysis formulation, the PSW(Periodic Square Wave) model, provides useful expressions for the upper/lower bounds and average level of the storage inventory hold-up. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem can be reduced to two subproblems. The first yields analytical solutions for determining batch sizes while the second is a separable concave minimization network flow subproblem whose solution yields the average material flow rates through the networks. For the special case in which the number of storage is equal to the number of process stages and raw materials storage units, a complete analytical solution for average flow rates can be derived. The analytical solution for the multistage, strictly sequential batch-storage network case can also be obtained via this approach. The principal contribution of this study is thus the generalization and the extension to non-sequential networks with recycle streams. An illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the results obtainable using this approach.
An effective methodology is reported for the optimal design of multisite batch production/transportation and storage networks under uncertain demand forecasting. We assume that any given storage unit can store one material type which can be purchased from suppliers, internally produced, internally consumed, transported to or from other plant sites and/or sold to customers. We further assume that a storage unit is connected to all processing and transportation stages that consume/produce or move the material to which that storage unit is dedicated. Each processing stage transforms a set of feedstock materials or intermediates into a set of products with constant conversion factors. A batch transportation process can transfer one material or multiple materials at once between plant sites. The objective for optimization is to minimize the probability averaged total cost composed of raw material procurement, processing setup, transportation setup and inventory holding costs as well as the capital costs of processing stages and storage units. A novel production and inventory analysis formulation, the PSW(Periodic Square Wave) model, provides useful expressions for the upper/lower bounds and average level of the storage inventory. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem can be reduced to two sub-problems. The first yields analytical solutions for determining lot sizes while the second is a separable concave minimization network flow subproblem whose solution yields the average material flow rates through the networks for the given demand forecast scenario. The result of this study will contribute to the optimal design and operation of large-scale supply chain system.
This study presents the findings of the experiments that were conducted on single- and multi-stage solvent extractors using the stimulus-response method, with the am of identifying flow characteristics of the material inside the mixer-settler-type extractor. The results of this study show that the response characteristics of a single-stage mixer is the same as that of a completely stirred tank reactor (CSTR), and that the lag time of a mixer-settler-type extractor increases with the number of its extraction stages. The experimental data for the single- and multiple-stage extractors were analyzed using K-RTD, a response analysis program, to obtain a retention time distribution (RTD) model of one-stage and four-stage extractors. The correlation coefficient between the calculated values and the experimental data was 0.963 for the one-stage extractor and 0.995 for the four-stage extractor, showing quite a good correlation.
As world population increases and the world economy expalds, so does the demand for natural resources especially strategic metals such as cobalt. An accurate assesment of the nation's minerals must include not only the resources available in the ground but also those that become available through recycling. In this paper, data on domestic and international supply of cobalt and its applications by end-user were analyzed for stable security of cobalt resources and effective recycling of cobalt scraps. Also, an initial evaluation of the flow of cobalt-containing materials in the United States was prepared. In 2003, 8,000 metric tons of cobalt were consumed in the United States and an estimated 28% of U.S. cobalt supply was derived from scrap. The superalloy industry and catalyst industries have well-established recycling or cobalt recovery practices. Recycling rates of cobalt scraps from magnet alloy and cemented carbide were relatively low.

AA 2026, which is used as an aviation material, is an improved version of 2024 and has higher physical properties, and is a material that has the potential to be applied to supersonic aircraft to be developed in the future. However, when an aircraft exceeds supersonic speeds, the surface heats up and the material must be resistant to this. Therefore, this study confirmed the high-temperature properties of AA 2026, an aviation structural material. AA 2026, solution treated at 500℃ for 4hr, was naturally aged at room temperature for more than 168 hr. Changes in microstructure and physical properties were confirmed over several hours of exposure to 100℃, 200℃, and 300℃, respectively. As a result of microstructure analysis, there was no significant change at 100℃, and from 200℃, GPB, a strengthening mechanism, grew and formed an S Phase. It was confirmed that the S Phase grew as the exposure time increased. Through a tensile test, it was confirmed that physical properties deteriorated as the precipitates grew. However, it was confirmed that the properties were stably maintained at 100℃, which is the temperature when the speed of a supersonic aircraft is less than Mach 2.
The thesis is a study of the information model for the information collection and systematization in the way of product design. In the past, the design was made by the designers hands, worked with the material directly, but today's product design, the material diverted to information, can be considered as it is made essentially through information collection and systematization processing. If the product design is considered the information processing, usually it means a qualitative change of the product design information, not a quantitative change of the information theory. A focus of the study is to grope for a way of changing the subject to information, dealing with when the product design intends to purposes, not the material, When a way of the product design was discussed to solve the problems rationally, in the past, if it is considered as quantitative, qualitative and organic methods and modeling as their means based on the process model, [analysis-generalization-estimation], are formal ism, the way of product design as information is that the product direction as a substance should go through the design information processing, making an alternative plan with the information model cycling to natural order. Because success or failure of the product design in the future depends on information as material.
