  • A new meander-line antenna consisting of two open-ended strips is proposed for a compact and broadband UHF radio frequency identification tag. An equivalent circuit model for the proposed antenna is derived and used to perform a simple and wideband impedance match to an arbitrary complex impedance of a tag chip without any additional matching network. The performance of the proposed antenna is validated by comparing calculated and measured results, which show good agreement.

  • A method for computing the capacitance and inductance matrix for 2-D multiconductor transmission lines with arbitrary cross section in dielectric medium is presented. The integral equation is obtained by using a free space Green function in conjunction with free and bound charges existing on boundary surfaces. The numerical analysis is based on the moment method using point matching and Galerkin method. And kthe scheme to reduce memory and computation time is presented for symmetric structure.

  • We developed 60 GHz analog optical transmitter modules for radio-over-fiber (RoF). They were consisted of an electroabsorption modulator (EAM), impedance matching circuit, and amplifier. The characteristics of fabricated modules were investigated by measuring the signal-to-noise ratio and the noise figure of the 60 GHz RoF link.

  • In this paper, twoㆍstage low noise amplifier(LNA) for 24㎓ is designed and fabricated using NE450284C HJ-FET of NEC CO. In order to get noise figure and input VSWR to be wanted it is considered input VSWR and noise figure simultaneously in matching-circuit designing. The fabricated two-stage low noise mph u has the gai of 16.6㏈, input VSWR of 1.6, and output VSWR under 1.5.

  • A 5Gb/s cross coupled transimpedance amplifier (TIA) & limiting amp(LA), regulated cascode(RGC) is realized in a 0.18$\mu$m CMOS technology for optical printed circuit board applications. The optical receiver demonstrates $92.8db{\Omega}$ transimpedance and limiting amplifier gain, 5Gb/s bandwidth for 0.5pF photodiode capacitance, and 9.74mW power dissipation from 1.8V, 2.4V supply. Input stage impedance is $50{\Omega}$. The circuit was implemented on an optical PCB, and the 5Gb/s data output signal was measured with a good data eye opening.

  • In this paper, we describe a unique self oscillating and mixing (SOM) down-converter design using a modified defected ground structure (DGS). The proposed SOM converter is consisted of self-oscillator, which can produce negative resistance and select resonance frequency, RF matching circuit, and IF low pass filter. As the advantage of this SOM converter can mix LO and RF signals as well as inducing LO signal with only one active device. it is designed as a simple structure and the low cost. Also, there is easy advantage to be applied in RFIC/MMIC technology because it offers excellent phase noise performance in spite of using micro-strip structure. The LO signal for the proposed SOM converter is designed at 1㎓ and RF frequency was chosen to be 800MHz. The achieved conversion loss and phase noise performances of the implemented SOM converter are 15㏈ and -95dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset frequency respectively. The equivalent circuit parameters for DGS are extracted by using a three dimensional EM simulator and simple circuit analysis method.

  • The charge pump affects the performance of PLL. In designing the charge pump, we need to consider various issues such as current mismatch, charge sharing, feedthrough, charge injection, and leakage current. This paper propose the new charge pump circuit which is improved in terms of the current match over the existing high-speed charge pump. The simple method used for reducing current mismatch is the technique that uses a cascode in order to increase the output resistance of the charge pump. However the method limits the output voltage range of the charge pump. So the method is hard to apply as the supply voltage is lowered. Thus this paper proposes a new charge pump circuit using an op amp instead of the cascode. And the new charge pump circuit has an excellent current matching characteristics over a wide output range.

  • Accurate material information is very important in PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design. In an integrated mast of a battleship, heat reduction is essential for stealth functionality. So heat dissipation from internal control equipments should be reduced as much as possible. Control equipments mostly consist of PCBs, but it often suffers from impedance mismatching due to imprecise Dk (Dielectric Constant), which significantly increases heat dissipation. In this paper, measurement methods of Dk is investigated. Also, effects on impedance mismatch by Dk variation with operating frequency is investigated.

  • This paper studies the magnetic coupling between two adjacent loop antennas that are parallel to each other in a plane and presents a new practical method to avoid the resulting magnetic coupling interference. The study focuses on the high frequency radio-frequency identification (RFID) system for casino applications, where several loop antennas are closely built into a game table to monitor gaming chips. In this case, neighboring loop antennas may severely interfere with each other by magnetic coupling, which leads to the malfunction of the RFID system. In this paper, we present a practical loop antenna with a new loop switch circuit for avoiding magnetic coupling. The loop switch circuit is integrated with a matching circuit and automatically operated by using an interrogating signal from a reader. We verified the validity of the proposed design by showing that an RFID reader with the proposed antenna can exactly and separately read the gaming chips placed on the different betting zones of a game table.
