  • The author have had a case of Anodontia Partialis in 15 year old, Korean female. 1. The disturbance was shown on the mandible development and mastication. 2. No general disturbances were found. 3. The teeth were normally shaped, no torsiversion had taken place, and the teeth were lining up normally. 4. X-Ray examination revealed that no teeth were unerupted.

  • In order to obtain the basic data for diagnosis of occlusion the author investigated the occlusal sounds produced by mandibular closing movement from rest position to centric occlusion by using the Korotkoff sounds microphone electrodes and physiograph for Korean 20S without TMJ problems. And the author analyzed the correlation of the occlusal sounds with height, body weight, mandibular closing movement distance, maxillary sinus size and masseter muscle activities relating to the production of occlusal sounds. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The occlusal sounds prouduced by mandibular closing movements from rest position to centric occlusion were ranged from 3.08mV to 52.00mV, their maen value 19.07mV in right side, and ranged from 2.41mV to 18.33mV, their mean value 9.19mV in left side in group of Angel's class I occlusion subjects having right habitual side of mastication. 2. In general the occlusal sounds in the habitual side of mastication were greater than those in the opposite side. 3. The correlations of the occlusal sounds with height and maxillary sinus size were not significant. 4. The correaltions of the occlusal sounds with body weight, mandibular closing movement distance and masster muscle activities were significant.

  • The author studied the changes of subjective, objective symptoms and muscle activities with EM2 (myo-tronics Co., Seattle, USA) before and after MRA therapy. The 11 patients were treated with MRA and active range of motion, pain and mouth opening limitation were checked at each visit for 6-8 weeks. Electromyographic activities were measured in both anterior lobe of temporalis and middle fibers of masseter at the position in rest, clenching and mastication. The obtained results were as follows : 1. There were significant decrease in pain and mouth opening limitation and significant increase in active range of motion after MRA therapy. 2. The muscle activities tended to decrease in general, especially in the temporal and masseter muscles on clenching and in the masseter on mastication after MRA therapy. 3. There were no significant differences in muscle activities between affected and unaffected side, but there was significant differences in temporal muscle on clenching side after therapy. 4. There were no significant differences in active range of motion, pain and mouth opening limitation between acute and chronic groups. 5. There was more significant decrease in muscle activities of the affected side in acute group than those in chronic group.

  • The decrease of masticatory function caused by tooth loss leads to a decrease of cerebral blood flow volume resulting in impairment of cognitive function and learning memory disorder. However, the reduced mastication-mediated morphological alteration in the central nervous system (CNS) responsible for senile deficit of cognition, learning and memory has not been well documented. In this study, the effect of the loss of the molar teeth (molarless condition) on the hippocampal expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) protein was studied by immunohistochemical techniques. The results were as follows : 1. The molarless mice showed a lower density of pyramidal cells in the cornu ammonis 1 (CA1) and dentate gyrus (DG) region of the hippocampus than control mice. 2. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the molarless condition enhanced the time-dependent increase in the cell density and hypertrophy of GFAP immunoreactivity in the CA1 region of the hippocampus. The molarless condition enhanced an time-dependent decrease in the number of neurons in the hippocampal formation and the time-dependent increase in the number and hypertrophy of GFAP-labeled cells in the same region. The data suggest a possible link between reduced mastication and histological changes in hippocampal formation that may be one risk factor for senile impairment of cognitive function and spatial learning memory.

  • the primary diagnosis of synovial chondromatosis of temporomandibular joint is extremely rare. often many months, or even years pass before the diagnosis is confirmed. synovial chondromatosis is an uncommon disease of cartilage transformation of synovial membrane with formation of loose bodies within the joint space. a 28-year-old women had experienced pain of the left TMJ area at mastication. Radiographs of the left TMJ revealed calcified loose bodies in superior temporomandibular joint space. treatment consisted of removal of calcified loose bodies and synovail membrane. after surgery, pain of Lt temporomandibular area at mastication disappeared. until present after surgery there have been no recuurence of symptoms.

  • In order to understand Changeologically on the meaning of FCST's TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) treatment procedure, Yi, Shike, Bi, Gen trigrams concerning the jaw and change by treatment were analyzed from the viewpoint of semiotic context of hexagon and holistic interpretation on disease. Yi is meant by jaw but actually indicates mouth made by maxilla and mandible, and it's characters are related with nourishing by aliment and words. But when we eat and speak in the daily life, jaw does not nourish properly it's own body by bad habit or postures. For the treatment of this ill state, there needs punishment and correction symbolized with Shike. Shike has fourth nine meaning obstacles between the two strong lines in the upper and lower end, and so it has the function of mastication and get rid of the fourth nine metaphorically indicating subluxation of axis using CBA and auxiliary measures of four movement or laughing methods. Bi expresses the achievement and effects of consecutive mastication process implicating normalized manifestation of jaw and its linked spinal function. Gen symbolizes removing selfish motive or partiality in advance and reaches the best state of the saint righteously self-nourishable human being.

  • This experiment was carried out to evaluate the tenderness of meat and it''s correlation with other carcass traits of Hanwoo steers. The significantly (p<0.01) higher mastication and shearing were observed in boiled meat than in the raw meat but the coefficient of variations were greater in raw meat than in boiled meat. The correlation between raw and boiled meat for shearing and penetration were positive and significant (p<0.01). Negative and significant correlations were observed between mastication and eye muscle area (p<0.05) and also between shearing and cooking loss (p<0.01) in raw meat whereas, penetration in raw meat was positively and significantly (p<0.05) correlated with age of the steers. Shearing in boiled meat negatively and significantly correlated with age (p<0.05), carcass weight (p<0.01), back fat thickness (p<0.01) as well as muscle score (p<0.01). The pH was not significantly correlated with tenderness in both raw and boiled meat. There were possibilities that the tenderness of boiled meat could be predicted from the raw meat.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the influencing factors of satisfaction and revisiting intention of dental implant patients. Methods: An interview and a self-reported questionnaire were completed by 190 patients in 10 dental clinics in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam from September 17 to October 31, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of the general characteristics of the subjects and satisfaction of implant. The instrument for implant interview was adapted form Pjetursson et al. by Likert 5 points scale. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ in the study was 0.768. Data were analyzed by SPSS/AMOS version 21.0 program. Results: Cost satisfaction had direct effect on satisfaction of expectation and indirect effect on revisiting intent. Mastication satisfaction had the direct effect on satisfaction of expectation and revisiting intent, and indirect effect on revisiting intent. Satisfaction of aesthetic function had the direct effect on satisfaction of expectation, and the indirect effect on revisiting intent. Conclusions: The determining factors of successful dental implant included expenses, mastication function, and aesthetic satisfaction. The competent dental implant teamwork and appropriate expenses can satisfy the implant patients.
