The current trends of product customization and repair of high value parts with individual defects demand automation and a high degree of flexibility of the involved manufacturing process chains. To determine the corresponding requirements this paper gives an overview of manufacturing process chains by distinguishing between horizontal and vertical process chains. The established way of modeling and programming processes with CAx systems and existing approaches is shown. Furthermore, the different types of possible adaptions of a manufacturing process chain are shown and considered as a cascaded control loop. Following this it is discussed which key requirements of repair process chains are unresolved by existing approaches. To overcome the deficits this paper introduces repair features which comprise the idea of geometric features and defines analytical auxiliary geometries based on the measurement input data. This meets challenges normally caused by working directly on reconstructed geometries in the form of triangulated surfaces which are prone to artifacts. Embedded into function blocks, this allows the use of traditional approaches for manufacturing process chains to be applied to adaptive repair process chains.

Reverse offset printing is considering as an emerging technology for printed electronics owing to its environmentally friendliness and cost-effectiveness. In reverse offset printing, selecting the materials for cliché and blanket is critical because of its minimum resolution, registration errors, aspect ratio of reliefs, pattern area, and reusability. Various materials such as silicon, quartz, glass, electroplated nickel plates, and imprinted polymers on rigid substrates can be used for the reverse offset printing of cliché. However, when new structures are designed for specific applications, new clichés need to re-fabricated each time employing multiple time-consuming and costly processes. Therefore, by modifying the blanket materials containing the printing ink, several new structures can be easily created using the same cliché. In this study, we investigated various elastomeric materials and evaluated their applicability for designing a highly stretchable blanket with controlled elastic deformation to implement tunable reverse offset printing.
Micro-scale serpentine structure fibers are widely used as flexible sensor in the manufacturing of micro-nano flexible electronic devices because of their outstanding non-linear mechanical properties and organizational flexibility. The use of melt electrowriting (MEW) technology, combined with the axial bending effect of the Taylor cone jet in the process, can achieve the micro-scale serpentine structure fibers. Due to the interference of the process parameters, it is still challenging to achieve the precise deposition of micro-scale and high-consistency serpentine structure fibers. In this paper, the micro-scale serpentine structure fiber is produced by MEW combined with axial bending effect. Based on the controlled deposition of MEW, applied voltage, collector speed, nozzle height and nozzle diameter are adjusted to achieve the precise deposition of micro-scale serpentine structure fibers with different morphologies in a single motion dimension. Finally, the influence mechanism of the above four parameters on the precise deposition of micro-scale serpentine fibers is explored.

The flexibility as well as the stiffness is required to perform mechanical function of a structure such as compliant mechanisms, which can be applied to MEMS(Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), flexible manufacturing devices, and design for no assembly. In this paper, the optimal design problem to achieve both structural flexibility and stiffness is formulated using multi-objective function, and the optimization problem is resolved by using Finite Element Method(FEM) and Sequential Linear Programming(SLP). Design examples of compliant mechanisms are presented to validate the design method.

The purpose of this study is to develop a practical image inspection system that could recognize it correctly, endowing flexibility to the productive field, although the same object for work will be changed in the size and rotated. In this experiment, it selected a fighter, rotating the direction from $30^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$ simultaneously while changing the size from 1/4 to 1/16, as an object inspection without using another hardware for exclusive image processing. The invariant moments, Hu has suggested, was used as feature vector moment descriptor. As a result of the experiment, the image inspection system developed from this research was operated in real-time regardless of the chance of size and rotation for the object inspection, and it maintained the correspondent rates steadily above from 94% to 96%. Accordingly, it is considered as the flexibility can be considerably endowed to the factory automation when the image inspection system developed from this research is applied to the productive field.

In this paper, we discuss the control scheme on active compliance control of flexible manipulators. The active compliance control scheme is extended from the scheme for rigid manipulators. To illustrate the validity of the proposed control scheme, we show experimental results for the case when the end-effector is not moving and when it is moving while applying force. Although flexible manipulators show some problems of stability yet it is clear from these results that flexible manipulators are more effective to reduce damage of environment because of link flexibility than rigid ones.
The problems occurred when developing a automatic wheel deburring system are to make effective flexibility in model change and the irregularity of the position/shape of the burr, to select optimal robotic manufacturing process and to develope optimal end effector. The locations where burr exists are on flange, rim and spoke. Here will be discussed the optimal solution for the removal of rim burr by using robot. The research can be summarized as the automatic robot path generation by recognizing rim contour and automatic deburring process technique. Various rim contour data is generated automatically when the sensor which is fixed to robot is moving with the parallel motion to the wheel center axis and this generated data is transferred to the data storage system and converted to the robot path data. The robotic tool system which is suitable to the rim deburring process is developed by integrating tool, compliance function and sensor. And factory automation system controlled by robot controller and PC is developed. This system shows good productivity and flexibility.

As international market pressures increase, product life cycles are becoming shorter at same time requirements for productivity and flexibility are becoming higher. Major improvement in robot programming user interface is central to increasing productivity and flexibility for automatic manufacturing environments. New computer technologies have the potential to accomplish this improvement. In this study we have developed a system which proves that interactive computer graphics and geometric modeling have matured to the point where their artful application into an integrated system can rsult in radically new and powerful user interface for robot programming. With the graphic user interface environment the system efficiently utilizes the existing CAD data and gemetric modeling techniques for off-line programming and simulations. Also the system successfully generates robot control programs performing the desired tasks given through off-line programming.

Electrical or electronic products have been becoming smaller and high integrated recently, with printed circuit boards(PCB's) being the key components for these products. The introduction of new technology of surface mounted devices(SMD) opens new ways towards high integration on the PCB. Many plants in eletronical industry which produce high variety of PCB's to meet the demands of customer orders require flexibility in PCB's production lines. This survey paper describes the related optimization problems and solution methods to the automated surface mount technology(SMT) assembly lines, and provides with the research direction for improving flexibility.
