  • We compare an integral sliding mode control with a typical sliding mode control for robot manipulators through two primitive tasks: set-point regulation and trajectory tracking control. To prove the asymptotic stability of two methods for robot manipulators, we introduce three important properties in the robot dynamics: skew-symmetry, positive-definiteness, and boundedness of robot parameter matrices and we present one unified control structure using a parametric velocity vector. From illustrative examples, we show that two methods effectively control for robot manipulators.

  • Kinematically redundantant manipulators have a nimber of potential advantages over nonredundant ones. Questions associated with manipulability measures for (non)redundant manipulators derived by minimum 2-norm solution and minimum infinity-norm solution in unit joint velocity are examined in detail.

  • A new approach to design and control mobile manipulators is presented in this paper, associating genetic algorithm to multicriteria optimization to generate and value the robots according to the constraints and aims of the task. Then the first step of this approach is detailed, as topologies and configurations of manipulators that can assume position, trajectory, speed or force task are studied.

  • This paper proposes the modeling of the dynamics of two cooperating robot manipulators performing the assembly job such as peg-in-hole while coordinating the payload along the desired path. The mass and moment of inertia of the manipulators and the payload are assumed to be unknown. To control the uncertain system, a robust control algorithm based on the computed torque control is proposed. Usually, the robust controller requires high input torques such that it may face input saturation in actual application. In this reason, the robust control algorithm includes fuzzy logic such that the magnitude of the input torque of the manipulators is controlled not to go over the hardware saturation while keeping path tracking errors bounded. A numerical example using dual three degree-of-freedom manipulators is shown.

  • In this paper, we discuss the control scheme on active compliance control of flexible manipulators. The active compliance control scheme is extended from the scheme for rigid manipulators. To illustrate the validity of the proposed control scheme, we show experimental results for the case when the end-effector is not moving and when it is moving while applying force. Although flexible manipulators show some problems of stability yet it is clear from these results that flexible manipulators are more effective to reduce damage of environment because of link flexibility than rigid ones.

  • The purpose of our sensor system is to transparentize the large hydraulic manipulators of a six-ton dual arm excavator from the operator camera view. Almost 40% of the camera view is blocked by the manipulators. In other words, the operator loses 40% of visual information which might be useful for many manipulator control scenarios such as clearing debris on a disaster site. The proposed method is based on a 3D reconstruction technology. By overlaying the camera image from front top of the cabin with the point cloud data from RGB-D (red, green, blue and depth) cameras placed at the outer side of each manipulator, the manipulator-free camera image can be obtained. Two additional algorithms are proposed to further enhance the productivity of dual arm excavators. First, a color correction algorithm is proposed to cope with the different color distribution of the RGB and RGB-D sensors used on the system. Also, the edge overlay algorithm is proposed. Although the manipulators often limit the operator's view, the visual feedback of the manipulator's configurations or states may be useful to the operator. Thus, the overlay algorithm is proposed to show the edge of the manipulators on the camera image. The experimental results show that the proposed transparentization algorithm helps the operator get information about the environment and objects around the excavator.

  • In this paper, we discuss the vibration suppression control of spatial redundant flexible manipulators through pseudo-inversed of Jacobian. In order to verify our method, the experiments are performed for PTP(Point To Point) motion of spa-tial flexible manipulators(1) with no redundancy(2) with one redundant DOF(degree of freedom). Finally, a comparison between these results is presented to show the performance of out approach.

  • Dynamic hybrid position/force control of flexible manipulators is proposed. First, a 2 D.O.F. flexible manipulator is modeled using the spring-mass model. Second, the equation of motion considering the tip constraints is derived. Third, hybrid position/force control algorithm is derived. In this control algorithm, the differentiable order of the desired trajectory and the stability condition are different from the case of rigid manipulators. Lastly, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm, simulation results are presented.

  • This paper illustrates a new learning control for robot manipulators using Lyapunov direct method. It has been shown that under the proposed learning control robot manipulators are always guaranteed to be asymptotically stable with respect to the number of trials. The proposed control is also robust in the sense that the exact knowledge of the nonlinear dynamics is not required except for bounding functions on the magnitude.

  • This paper presents the kinematic and dynamic analysis of parallel manipulators with redundant limbs, obtained by putting additional limbs to an existing parallel manipulator. We develop the kinematic and dynamic models of a parallel, manipulator with redundant limbs. The redundancy in parallelism due to the increased number of limbs and the redundancy in actuation due to the increased number of active joints are considered in the modeling. Based on the derived models, we define the kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities of a parallel manipulator with redundant limbs. The effect of the redundant limbs on the performance of parallel manipulators is analyzed in terms of kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities.
