  • In a fixed bed reactor, adsorption capacity of $SO_2$ in simulated flue gases was investigated with NMO(natural manganese ore), composed of various metal oxides, iron ore and $CuO/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ as adsorbents. The experiment carried out in a fluidized bed reactor with variables such as gas velocity, temperature and particle size. Iron ore was excluded in the fluidized bed reactor experiment for the lower adsorption capacity. The adsorption of $SO_2$ in metal oxide is a typical chemisorption because the adsorption capacity of all adsorbents increased with temperature. The effect of particle size on the adsorption capacity was varied with the ratio, $U_o/U_{mf}$ and the difference of $U_o-U_{mf}$. $U_o$ is the gas velocity, $U_{mf}$ is the minimum fluidization gas velocity. $U_o/U_{mf}$ and $U_o-U_{mf}$ explain the behavior of the gas and solids in the fluidized bed reactor. From the performance equation of the fluidized bed reactor, kinetic reaction rate constants were obtained by the non-linear least square method. The adsorption capacity of NMO proved the potential use of $SO_2$ adsorbents.

  • X-ray diffraction (XRD), Electron microprobe analyses (EPMA) and heating experiments were used for mineralogical characterization of natural buserites collected from the Janggun and Dongnam mines. They are closely associated with $7-{\AA}$ phase (usually rancieite) in manganese oxide ores of the supergene oxidation zones of manganese carbonate deposits. Electron microprobe analyses give the average formula $(Ca_{0.78}Mg_{0.64}Mn^{2+}\;_{0.45})Mn^{4+}\;_{8.03}O_{18}\cdot13.2H_{2}O\;and\;(Zn_{0.81}Ca_{0.77}Mg_{0.26})Mn^{4+}\;_{8.00}O_{18}\cdot10.9H_{2}O$ for buserite from the Janggun and the Dongnam mine, respectively. The basal reflection of buserite from the Janggun mine shifts continuously from $9.86\;{\AA}\;at\;40^{\circ}C\;to\;7.60\;{\AA}\;at\;90^{\circ}C$, but the buserite from the Dongnam mine shows tendency of decreasing intensity in the $9.67^{\circ}C$ peak and of increasing intensity in the $7.53\;{\AA}$ peak in the range of $40\∼90^{\circ}C$, showing no gradual shifting of peaks.

  • Selective leaching processes for copper, gold, nickel, and cobalt have been investigated because there is an advantage of ammoniacal hydrometallurgy that metal such as copper could be selectively extracted restricting the dissolution of iron or calcium. In the present article, the studies for selective ammoniacal leaching of copper from motor scraps and waste printed circuit boards (PCBs), for ammoniacal leaching of gold to decrease the amount of cyanide used or to substitute cyanide by thiosulfate, and for ammoniacal leaching to recover nickel and cobalt from nickel oxide ore and intermidiate obtained from manganese nodule treatment process were summarized and further studies were proposed for domestic technology development for ammoniacal hydrometallurgy processes.

  • The geology of the Iskaycruz project are mainly composed of sedimentary rocks within Cretaceous basin. The basal part is composed up of dark-gray shale, gray sandstone, and clastic rock of Oyon formation interbedded with coal measures. In the folded zone in the eastern part of the survey area, there is Chimu formation that has medium-grained massive and white quarztite. In terms of geological structure, the Iskaykruz region is located in the folded and overthrust zones of the central part of the Occidental Mountains. Ore body was formed by hydrothermal replacement process and consists of zinc, lead, silver, and copper. Stratabound-type deposits are hosted in limestone of Santa formation. It extends 12 kilometers discontinuously from northern Canaypata to southern Antapampa. Irregular iron oxide and sulfide minerals hosted in Santa and Parihuanca formations are observed. The mineralization observed on the surface consist of primary sulfides consisting of sphalerite with galena and chalcopyrite, and iron and manganese oxide produced from oxidation of primary sulfides. Skarn minerals are accompanied by tremolite, garnet, epidote and quartz.
